HARMONY CLIMATE CHANGE CENTER f a l l 2 0 1 7 | P R O F. a l e x h i r s i g To design a climate change center in Morro Bay that brings people of all opinions on climate change together, providing them with a space to be discuss, learn and reflect.
Deforming the traditional Morro Bay Chumash house and morphing it into a modern, site-specific design language 5
Climate change today is a hot topic, and its existence is surprisingly still argued about on both sides. Unfortunately, in this day and age, it is impossible for people of differing viewpoints to come together and discuss climate change without conflict arising. The Harmony climate change center, located at the Morro Bay waterfront, allows for free and open discussion. One moves through the discussion floor, filled with exhibits and discussion spaces, to the education floor, containing classrooms and a boat storage, to finally the subterranean floor,
“hARMONY IS ABOUT CO-EXISTING TOGETHER. iT INVOLVES COMMUNITY - ONE THAT FOSTERS DISC U S S I O N A N D U N D E R S T A N D I N G . O N LY T H E N C A N WE ACHIEVE BALANCE BETWEEN MAN AND NATURE.”

LINK GYMNASIUM s p r i n g 2 0 1 7 | P R O F. T E D D Y S L O W I K To design a gym in Downtown LA that connects the visitor/spectator to the dedicated gym-goer, and to create a link between two diverging city streets.

In today’s Los Angeles, the gym has transitioned from a once damp, cold and sweaty space that one went to focus solely on improving their fitness to a social club of barely clad bodies engaging with amenities that rival a five-star resort. The gym has become about much more than just pursuit of fitness: it is now a place for people to be seen or put on display. The Link Gymnasium addresses this recent change in mentality. It provides carved out atriums where people can be observed doing many activities in bustling Downtown LA, be

humility and connection to nature The scenic Highway 1 along the Californian shore offers breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean that compel tourists far and wide to stop, reflect and take in the beauty. Along this shoreline lies Cape San Martin, an untouched corner of the world that takes pride in its raw beauty. Here, the proposed chapel serves as a place of rest where travelers of all faiths can congregate. It returns to the roots of prehistoric religion, which advocated that we exist in a small world as even smaller people, and that we should forgo human egotism and
