The Game: A Woodberry Classic
EVERY BOY TAKES PART IN THE FALL’S BIGGEST EVENT!
We call it simply “The Game.” It’s Woodberry Forest and Episcopal High School, going head to head in an epic November football battle that’s the oldest high school rivalry in the South. This year, the 111th game, the Tigers triumphed, 21–12, bringing home our fourth consecutive victory and capping a week that gripped Woodberry in pre-game fever! On Sunday before the game, new boys and their mentors built torches for igniting Friday night’s 60-foot bonfire. Once it was blazing, the cheerleaders led wildly costumed students and hundreds of spectators in cheers to pump up the team for the next day. On Game day, the entire school traveled to Episcopal. The boys sat together, screaming for the Tigers, their Woodberry ties painting the stands a distinctive black and orange. Next year? The Maroon will be in our house! GO, TIGERS! Many Woodberry boys enjoy the drama program, but not everyone wants to be on stage. Others work behind the scenes, helping to stage dramatic productions that amaze local audiences. We host three main-stage plays each year that get lots of boys involved. Some use power tools to build elaborate sets in our woodworking shop. Others design and run the sound and lights, adding special effects — including fog and pyrotechnics — whenever they can. Their favorite part of the plays? Probably the girls who come to campus to participate! Thanks to many helping hands, Lend Me a Tenor was a big hit this fall.
