WELCOME TO VOLUME 1
Have you ever felt so excited about something that you couldn't wait to share it with the world? This is exactly how I feel about sharing our first ever digital magazine with you, that came to exist through our most recent Women Thrive Summit. In March 2021, over the course of 10 days, together with more than 40 speakers we made impact globally. Coming together from all parts of the world, with one mission to empower others to succeed and thrive in business and life. This is our opportunity to look back on what we have achieved and what is yet to come - our digital magazine dedicated to featuring stories of our events, community members, media highlights, achievements and celebrations. As the digital world become more and more fast paced sometimes you just want to grab a cup of coffee and enjoy a read, and I certainly hope that Women Thrive Magazine will become your regular source of inspiration, ideas and resource. In the future editions you can expect to read more about women stories, valuable and practical articles to help you grow, compilation of resources and tools we recommend.
This will also be a great opportunity for our community members to contribute and highlight their work and their expertise. So I hope you join us on this journey of creating this new media platform called the Women Thrive Magazine curated by me and the Women in Business Club team. Helping Women Suceed & Thrive in Business March 2021 we hosted our biggest event yet, 10 days, 42 speakers and over 2,000 attendees globally. Together we raised $342.55 for our chosen charities, The Female Lead Charity and The Global Fund for Women. We could not be more proud to have been able to support such great causes as a result of your contribution and support. We have also achieved our set goals for our United Nations commitment we made in July 2020 to create a collaborative platform celebrating diversity and offering opportunities and platform for learning and growth for women. THE IMPACT WE HAD
Women Thrive Summit was endorsed by many entrepreneurs and thought leaders, including the world's most renowned Motivational Speaker - Les Brown, my mentor from the Hungry to Speak community. Our speakers and our work have also been featured across the media and our event shared widely, to more than 5 million followers globally. As the event was held during the month of March, the Women History Month and the month we celebrate International Women's Day, we received an incredible amount of support from our male supporters, cheerleaders and those who celebrate women and feminine power.
We received videos of support and endorsements from thought leaders and those who support the work that we at Women in Business do.
We had clubhouse rooms hosted for us and by us, raising awareness about women empowerment, and coming together in solidarity and support.
This year was a clear sign that the very much needed conversation is here and it is recognised as an important conversation to be had.
FEATURED IN THE MEDIA
During the summit we heard from few men, like JR Burgess, who was brave to share his story of how he lost sight of his wife needs to be independent whilst he was focusing on being the bread winner. How he was able to turn that around and become his wife's biggest cheerleader and see her flourish in starting her own business. In a world, where there is still a lot fo suppression, domestic violence and attempted control over women, it is as important as ever to continue to have this dialogue, with both men and women in how we can make a difference. That is why we have taken to the media to do coverage of these important issues, that today you can read right here in the Women Thrive Magazine by clicking the links in the next few pages where you see snapshots of various media features.
There is a lot of talk about women's empowerment in today's world, but we are still seeing a lot of issues around gender equality —women being beaten down by the media, women not represented equally in executive roles. Over the last few years, women have been carving their own niche and empowering each other in business due to a lack of support from other sources. During Women History Month, we have asked some powerhouse women, entrepreneurs, authors, and speakers on what Women Empowerment means to them, and here are their answers below: "The European Institute for Gender Equality states that it has five distinct components: 1) Women’s sense of self-worth 2) Their right to have and to determine choices 3) Their right to have access to opportunities and resources 4) Their right to have power to control their own lives, both within and outside the home 5) Their ability to influence the direction of social change to create a more just, social and economic order, nationally and internationally When I look at these five elements, I picture them as the five fingers of the larger hand that is women empowerment, and at the heart, the palm of this hand is connection. Yes, all five elements are important for self-determination and choice, but no woman is an island. We can bring these elements together when we extend the hand to other women when we lift as we climb when we offer our hand in friendship and support. When women come together, MAGIC happens, Queens! That is at the foundation for our nonprofit, Women for Success, and it is the way we create that generational impact that we need now more than ever." It is the sense of belonging, in the room full of strangers. It is knowing that your voice is being heard and your views are being represented. Women empowerment is the key to a sustainable long term change and social and economic development. The work we do today in changing perceptions and empowering women to thrive is the work we are doing not for right now, but for future generations to come. We are breaking glass ceilings, representing our voices, breaking status quo and becoming the generation that did it.
