Father, our God, we honor you during this storm. We trust you in the valley; we thank you from the mountaintop.

We ask for your blessings over the lives and decisions of those who lead us around the world in the United States Military. We realize that all wisdom comes from you.

Give them the faith to seek your guidance Dear Lord. The fortitude to make good decisions even when they are difficult beyond measure. You know their tasks are mighty: the lives, hopes and dreams of the men and women they lead depends upon their sound judgement. Keep their minds strong, and their hearts pure.

We pray that they will choose love over hate; principle over expediency; and courage over fear. May they be reminded that the best leader is, in fact, a good and humble servant.

We thank you God for the men and women who answered the call to serve and protect our nation. It is because of their selfless service that we live in a free democracy.

The constant bond of honor and sacrifice across every generation lives in every soldier, sailor, airman and marine. That same spirit and sacrifice we find in the book of Isaiah 6:8, “I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ Then I said, ‘Here I am. Send me’.”

Lord, we believe that same spirit Isaiah possessed – that compassion for his life is embodied in our service members today.

That same spirit that says, “Send me. No matter the mission, send me. No matter the risk. Send me, no matter how great the sacrifice I am called to make, including my very life. Send me.”

Father, their devotion to duty has sustained this country through all its trials and will sustain it through the trials to come – but only through your counsel. Touch them that they will have a discerning heart.

Help us all to remain true to your word. Help us always to distinguish between right and wrong; and to always serve our fellow man.

In the matchless name of your son, Jesus the Christ, we pray.

Amen

Prayer for the Military Leaders (by Kelly Suazo-Davis)

Father God, we praise and exalt you. The power and glory of your greatness, oh Lord, you reign in heaven and in earth. You are the head over every military leader across our Nation. Father God, you are perfect. We are thankful that all authority, gifts, and talents come from you. With you being the best gift to us. Father God lead us not in our knowledge, but the knowledge in you and give wisdom to our leaders in the Nation, military personnel, and families.

Father God, we pray that our military leaders are led by your Spirit. Father God, they may not know or understand how you are all-powerful, changing their minds and hearts to shift behaviors to honor you. To where their acts of love, goodness towards others, loving, and yet firm leadership becomes the norm in their daily acts of servitude. Lord we pray for our military leaders to operate out of the spirit of servant leadership. Oh Lord give them the strength to be brave and courageous in dismantling systemic oppression and racism; to bring and imbed unity, empathy, understanding, friendship, and love within our military.

May you deploy the spirit of discernment to occupy the spaces of our military leaders, in their offices, buildings, public events, and in their homes. For our leaders to emulate servant leadership - up and down the chain of command.

We pray for our military leaders to become conscious and aim to be complete in you. Give our leaders the courage to love and serve the people that you ultimately have orchestrated for them to lead. Lord, we pray that our military leaders may know your greatness and holiness. That they may know that you are all-powerful, aligning every move to manifest your glory to transform the hearts and works of military leaders for all your people.

Lord, we worship you and believe you hear our prayer and praise for the miraculous works that you will allow us to witness. We will become a Nation that is unified by our differences and complexities. By your stripes, we are healed; by your breath, we are renewed, and we believe your undeserved grace is sufficient.

In your holy name, we pray.

Amen
