Prayer for Senators

Prayer for Senators (by Amber Whittington)

Dear gracious and sovereign God, we lift up the Senators of the United States of America and we ask that they be guided by the virtues of honesty, decency, humility, and above all, wisdom.

Father, your word says in James 1:5, that if any person lacks wisdom, let them ask and that you would bestow wisdom upon them and that you would not despise their request. Father, in this moment we pray for wisdom for our Senators. We ask that you bestow upon them the character of the Lord Jesus, who did not become arrogant in his deity as your only begotten son. Jesus took on the posture of servant leader. Jesus was committed to meeting the needs of the oppressed, the hungry, the hurting, and the physically disabled. Father, Jesus was a voice to the voiceless, and so we ask that you raise up a cadre of Senators who have conviction and will be a voice to the voiceless.

Lord, in this unprecedented time, we ask that you reawaken a commitment and devotion to office among our Senators; we ask that a dedication to serve their constituents would guide them as they make decisions that are needful in this time. Lord, we pray that the spirit of procrastination and indifference be removed from them; we pray that they move with urgency to enact laws and make compromises that would move our Nation forward. Lord, we pray that the political blinders would fall off their eyes, and that they lead with integrity and compassion.

Father God, we pray for the Senate staff. We ask that you keep them safe and healthy. We pray for Senatorial candidates; keep them safe and healthy on the campaign trail. In this election, we pray that you raise up a new generation of Senators who will harken their ears to your voice and will seek wisdom from you. Lord, in this election, we are believing in you for the electing of servant leaders and shepherd leaders who can govern our Nation as we navigate the challenges of this age.

It is in Jesus' precious Name that we pray.

Amen
