MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Reflecting on Women Offshore's Impactful Journey into 2024 As we set sail into 2024, it's truly inspiring to reflect on Women Offshore’s impact on the maritime community. What began as small ripples nearly seven years ago has magnified into a powerful force driving change and advancement, embodying the essence of the saying, "A drop in the ocean, a change in the sea."

This past year has been marked by extraordinary accomplishments, most notably the awarding of $80,000 in scholarships in collaboration with OSG and MEBA. These scholarships have illuminated the paths of ambitious students in the maritime field, guiding them toward a promising future and symbolizing hope in every drop of support we offer.

A pivotal moment of 2023 was the expansion of our Career Support Program. Beyond enrolling 12 deserving individuals, we opened our doors wider to welcome an even greater number of participants, further solidifying our commitment to nurturing talent in the maritime sector. This expansion, akin to adding more drops to our ocean, has significantly enhanced our collective strength and impact.

Our Student Day at SUNY Maritime was a resounding success, gathering a room full of aspiring maritime students from across the nation to learn from industry leaders. The Women Offshore Conference at Texas A&M in Galveston, themed "A World of Opportunity," provided an unparalleled platform for networking, learning, and inspiration. Similarly, our Inclusion Summit made a profound impact, focusing on leadership enhancement, bias awareness, and inclusive mentorship.

The significant achievements of Women Offshore are a direct reflection of the steadfast commitment and support from our remarkable community. Each of you contributes to the vast ocean of our collective efforts, driving our mission to empower women+ in the maritime industry.

By fostering a diverse and inclusive environment, we are collectively creating waves of profound impact. We extend our heartfelt thanks for your vital role in this journey.

A MARITIME COMMUNITY IN WHICH ALL INDIVIDUALS, REGARDLESS OF GENDER, ARE EMPOWERED TO PURSUE THEIR CAREER AMBITIONS. The Women Offshore Foundation, also known as Women Offshore, is an online organization and resource center established in 2017 to support a diverse workforce on the water. As a 501(c)(3) public charity, our mission is to propel women+ into meaningful careers through access to a worldwide community and professional development resources while raising awareness amongst industry leaders and decision-makers about issues affecting women on the water.

As a community centered on the lived experiences of women+ working on the water, we are deeply committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion within our community and the broader industry. Our mission includes eliminating gender-based discrimination through an intersectional approach, and our membership includes women and members of marginalized gender identities and expressions.

Cadet Brianna Linderholm

First off, I wanted to thank you again for granting me the Cruise Scholarship this year. It has allowed me to focus solely on my learning this fall and not have to worry about the costs of living outside of it.

Being out here has been a wonderful experience! Being on the Great Lakes Maritime Academy especially has helped me gather a better understanding of ship handling and piloting, going through the rivers multiple times a week. I have been able to learn how to load, unload, trim, read drafts, spot the boat, and boom, along with many more important skills, and to top it off, it's been really fun! This next summer, I'm excited to get out again and continue to refine these skills I've been busy learning, along with continuing to build an understanding of how everything works out on the water!

My advice for other cadets coming out is to not be afraid to ask lots of questions and to believe in yourself and your abilities! Having confidence in what you do is a total game changer, even if you're still learning! Once again, thank you so much!

My experience on Summer Sea Term 2023 this past summer was amazing and quite interesting...We visited four ports this summer: Tampa, New Orleans, Curacao, and Puerto Rico. My goal for the summer was to make new connections and succeed in my learning to prepare myself for the industry.

The Women Offshore scholarship helped me immensely, and I am incredibly grateful for the aid I received. The application process was easy, and it was not hard to find, either.

PROPEL WOMEN INTO MEANINGFUL CAREERS WOMEN OFFSHORE'S CAREER SUPPORT Career Support has made a substantial impact in empowering women in the maritime sector.

Under the leadership of Christine MacMillan, Director of Career Support, Women Offshore advanced its initiative in a wide range of activities, including personalized coaching to professional training, all aimed at fostering talent and opening new career pathways.

A key highlight of 2023 was the US State Maritime Academy Training Cruise Scholarship program, which provided essential financial aid to the tune of $80,000, underscoring the organization’s dedication to educational progress.

In 2023, Christine expanded her focus to include community engagement, launching the innovative "Catapulting Your Career Ashore" program. This self-paced initiative is designed to support mariners transitioning to onshore careers.

Additionally, the program's presence was amplified through social media with "Christine's Career Tips," significantly extending the initiative's influence and reach.

Recognizing the global scope of maritime challenges, Christine has also directed efforts toward providing targeted educational support to community members beyond the United States. Her actions reflect a profound understanding of the diverse needs and challenges within the industry, highlighting her commitment to inclusive and impactful support for maritime professionals.

MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

At Women Offshore, we believe that in order to reduce the gender gap, we must connect women seeking mentoring with experienced seafarers in this community. Our mentor program, the Women Offshore MentorSHIP, virtually connects both mentors and mentees. This program is open to women anywhere in the world who have previously worked or currently work on the water in the maritime or offshore oil and gas industries.

SEXUAL ASSAULT & VIOLENCE ERADICATION S.A.V.E. PROGRAM

The Women Offshore’s Sexual Assault and Violence Eradication Program (S.A.V.E.) is vital in combatting sexual violence in offshore environments. It offers essential support and resources for survivors, promoting a safer, more respectful workplace culture. By emphasizing education and prevention, the SAVE Program not only aids recovery but also proactively works to ensure the safety and well-being of women+ in these challenging workspaces. This program’s role is critical in fostering a more inclusive and secure environment in offshore industries.

WOMEN OFFSHORE S.A.V.E. PROGRAM SUPPORTS THE USCG AND CGIS

The leadership at Women Offshore has played a pivotal role in collaboration with the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and the Coast Guard Investigative Service (CGIS), recognizing a critical need within the maritime industry for enhanced clarity and accessibility regarding reporting procedures. This collaborative effort is grounded in the belief that fostering an environment of transparency and trust will encourage more individuals to come forward and report instances of sexual misconduct. Such a proactive stance is essential for ensuring safer working conditions at sea.

As a direct result of this collaboration, the USCG took a significant step forward by issuing a Marine Safety Information Bulletin (MSIB) focused on reporting procedures.

Accompanying this bulletin is an infographic that clearly outlines the steps involved in the reporting and investigation process. This tool serves as a valuable resource, demystifying the reporting procedure and thus, empowering individuals within the maritime industry to take action against sexual misconduct. The introduction of these resources marks a crucial advancement in the efforts to create a safer and more supportive environment for all maritime professionals.

On February 18th, the Women Offshore Foundation proudly hosted its 2nd Annual Benefit Gala, a pivotal event to garner support for programs dedicated to advancing women+ in meaningful maritime careers. The evening was a delightful affair, featuring a four-course dinner and a silent auction. A new highlight this year was the exciting addition of a live auction. 6TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE

For the past five years, we have united women from around the globe to support one another in navigating careers on the water. In 2023, we hosted 250 community members with our hybrid 2-day conference from 20 countries!

Conference participants attended keynote speeches and panel discussions focused on “A World of OpportUNITY”. There were interactive sessions and workshops, opportunities to network with others, and inspiring keynote speeches!
