This report is dedicated to bell hooks. When Women
Engaged (WE) Co-Founder Malika Redmond was an
undergraduate student at Spelman College, she read her
books. hooks' Black feminist critique of society, culture,
and the systems that oppress Black people, and all of
humanity, was standard academic reading.
It is through hooks' intellectual work that Redmond
found deep and meaningful ways to express her unique
perspective on the world and how, without apology, to
place love for herself at the center of the justice she
seeks for the community.
WE has been able to create a space for Black women,
girls and femmes. Here, fighting for reproductive justice
and reparations are weighted with equal importance.
The lives of people of African descent are respected as
sacred. WE gives thanks to bell hooks!
