The Mission of the Wolf River Conservancy

The Wolf River Conservancy is the only nationally accredited land trust headquartered in West Tennessee. As a 501c3 non-profit, it is committed to protecting and preserving the Wolf River watershed as a sustainable natural resource. The Wolf River watershed is critical to the health and well-being of the greater Memphis community. More than one million residents obtain their drinking water from the Memphis Sand Aquifer and it is a vital resource for the development of the region. The Wolf River watershed contains some of the highest quality wetlands that recharge the Memphis Sand Aquifer.

Founded in 1985, the Wolf River Conservancy is the most trusted and effective conservation organization in our community, having protected more than 20,000 acres of land and bringing awareness to environmental issues The Wolf River Conservancy provides robust education, recreation, and service projects to the community, engaging more than 7,000 students, volunteers, and program participants annually. The Wolf River Conservancy is also the lead design, engineering, and construction partner for the Wolf River Greenway. This public-private partnership is responsible for the creation of the Wolf River Greenway, a world-class linear park and trail system that connects Memphians across 22 different neighborhoods through protected corridors of green space. Currently, the Wolf River Greenway has more than 480,000 annual users.

The Wolf River Conservancy is seeking a gift from The Musk Foundation to fund and seed endowments that will have a generational impact on our community. Through our existing Land Conservation Fund and newly created Wolf River Greenway Permanent Endowment, The Musk Foundation can play a pivotal role in the sustainability of our community’s natural resources. It is an opportunity to be at the forefront of one of our city's most impressive public/private environmental education and recreation initiatives.

With a gift to the Land Conservation Fund, The Musk Foundation can safeguard over 20,000 acres of vulnerable wetlands over the next decade, preserving critical ecosystems for generations. Additionally, by investing in the Wolf River Greenway Permanent Endowment, The Musk Foundation can establish the first step towards sustainable environmental education, expanded recreational access, and longterm maintenance of the Wolf River Greenway. The Wolf River Greenway Permanent Endowment is part of a broader $12,000,000 campaign, and this cornerstone contribution would cement the region's most ambitious public-private green space partnership.
