One-Year Pre A Level Programme

What we offer

Woldingham School offers a One-Year Pre A Level Programme for girls (aged 15+) in Year 11. The curriculum is excellent preparation for the British education system and enables students to move on to our Sixth Form, and later to apply for entry into British or international universities.

In the One-Year Pre A Level Programme students study the following compulsory subjects:

• English Language (or English as an Additional Language)

• Mathematics

• Science

• Theology

In addition, students have the option to study up to four of the following subjects, dependent on their ability and the curriculum timetable:

• Art

• Computer Science

• Dance

• Design & Technology

• EAL

• French / German / Spanish

• Geography

• History

• Music

• Physical Education (Academic)

Students join our mainstream Year 11 classes. For the most able students it is possible to gain a GCSE qualification in one or more of subjects taken, with additional teacher-led support lessons provided. Students will enjoy our co-curricular and THRIVE (Woldingham’s Personal Social and Health Education) programmes with their form classes.

Alongside the academic curriculum, students can take part in the full range of sporting, musical, arts, cultural and community activities that a Woldingham education offers. Girls will also be fully integrated into our boarding community.

Suitability

As an intensive one-year course, this programme is academically demanding and therefore suited to able students who are self-motivated and able to work independently. To maximise their learning and get the best possible results in their final assessments in the summer term students may wish to undertake preparatory work in the months before they start the programme. Girls will learn to manage their time wisely, developing a mature attitude to academic study. The One-Year Pre A Level Programme runs for three terms, made up of two terms teaching, with structured revision and examinations in the third term.
