Students learn that serving Jesus is a good and joyous thing. They learn how to share that joy with others.

Psalm 98:4 (KJB) Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.

God made king David so happy he danced until some of his clothes fell off! (2 Samuel 6:14-16)

Lesson highlights:

What do you do when you are happy? Some people smile and laugh. Some people dance and sing. Jesus makes us happy because He loves us and takes care of us. Today we will show how happy we are because of Jesus.

What are some things that Jesus has done to make us happy?

1. Jesus saved us from our sins.

2. Jesus made us part of His great church.

3. Jesus gave us great mommies and daddies to take care of us.

4. Jesus protects us from sickness.

5. Jesus keeps us safe from people that want to hurt us.

6. Jesus prepared a beautiful home for us in heaven.

We show our thanks to Jesus when we worship. How do we worship? Well, we can: a. clap our hands for joy… b. sing songs to Jesus. c. make a joyful noise: shout ‘hallelujah’! d. dance before the Lord.

Activity: Explore with the children’s ways in which the express happiness when things happen in their lives. Let them draw a picture illustrating what they do when Jesus makes them happy.

Song: Teach them a song about being happy in Jesus.

C&D Undefeated: Soar Like an Eagle Carla Figueroa &Tamoya Brown

Lesson objective: Scripture:

Students will learn to choose the high and noble path in life, instead of believing the lies of the adversary.

Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Lesson highlights: The eagle is known as the king of birds. He soars majestically in the heights and is not disturbed by the little things that try to annoy him. One of those annoyances are the pesky ravens that stick close to the eagles. A raven will even take a ride on the eagle’s back. The eagle is a powerful bird. He could kill the raven effortlessly. He could eat him for supper if he felt like it! Yet the eagle does not allow the presence of the raven to bother him. He wastes no time on him. What does he do instead? He soars. He keeps flying higher and higher, until he reaches heights where the air is too thin for ravens to breathe. Before long, the ravens lose consciousness and fall to the ground.

Learn from the eagle. Always take the high road. Soar high like the winner that you are. When people try to harm you – soar high. When the try to bully of shame you – soar high. Maintain the mindset of the eagle. Colossians 3:2, Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. Focus your attention on the noble things. Don’t allow others to define you or change your good behavior.

Never allow anyone to bring you down to their level. Be a leader not a follower. Set your goals and pursue them.

You can accomplish all things through the power of Jesus Christ.

The real battles take place in the mind. That is where you must win. The apostle Paul wrote to the Philippians: Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things (Philippians 4:8) The eagle does not fear the ‘ordinary’ things. He knows that he is undefeated. Embrace the power of God in you.

Rise high in worship. Rise high in holy living. Ignore the annoyances and fly like an eagle. Make noble choices.

Remember: you are undefeated!

Lesson objective: Scripture:

Students will learn to recognize and celebrate the victory that we have in Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 15:57 ( NIV) But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Samuel 17:45-46. (NIV) David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the LORD will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.

Lesson highlights: Story: David and Goliath David did not defeat Goliath because he was strong. He did not possess superior skills in warfare. He was just a shepherd. David’s victory came from God! David dared to trust in God to accomplish the impossible, even when other men were running away in fear. You can be a David every day, facing each challenge with the confidence that you have divine favor.

You are a winner. The victory belongs to you even in the battles that are ahead of you. Why? Because you don’t have to earn victory. God give victory to you! Knowing that you win empowers you. You enter every fight knowing that the deck is stacked in your favor. Are you fighting against temptation? Here is what God’s word says about that: No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. (1 Corinthians 10:13. NIV) What about your enemies? God takes care of those too. Here is a divine promise for the believer who trusts in God: (Isaiah 54:17 NIV): no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me," declares the LORD. no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. Protected!

Do you have needs in your life? Again, God promises that He will take care of them: (Philippians 4:19) But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

The adversary will try to make you feel like a loser. He will try to seduce you away from the presence of the Lord. You know the truth. Declare that truth loudly and confidently. I AM AN OVERCOMER. I HAVE THE VICTORY! Being undefeated does not mean that you will not have to resist evil. It means that when you fight you win because God is with you and for you. Fight the good fight of faith, knowing that the odds are in your favor. Fight and win!

G&H Undefeated! Victory Is Promised Pastor Roger Clennon

Lesson objective: Scripture:

Students will know that they are undefeated because God Himself has promised to be with them, just as he was with Israel.

Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. (KJV) Romans 8:37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

Lesson highlights: Victory is promised to the believer, even before the fight begins. We remain undefeated in spiritual warfare, no matter what the forecast looks like. God has given us secret weaponry: an arsenal that is ‘mighty through God’ for the pulling down of enemy strongholds’ (2 Corinthians 10:4) It is not about the size of the enemy armies. It is about the LORD of Armies who goes before us and has already spoken a word of victory concerning us. Little skirmishes will not change the outcome, as long as we endure to the end, believing God’s enduring promise.

In today’s lesson, Moses is at the end of his earthly ministry. He is 120 years old, and God has told him that he will not enter the promised land with the people he has led for forty years, because he struck the rock twice in the wilderness instead of speaking to it as God commanded (Numbers 20:11 And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.) He is preparing the nation to go on without him. Like all great leaders, this man of God is preparing and empowering the next generation.

Deut. 31:2 And he said unto them, I am an hundred and twenty years old this day; I can no more go out and come in: also the LORD hath said unto me, Thou shalt not go over this Jordan. Moses was very clear: he could not go, but God’s promise was not altered. God had made clear provision for His people to enter into and take possession of the land He had promised to his servant Abraham. God Himself would go with them, and Joshua would be Moses’ successor: The LORD thy God, he will go over before thee, and he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt possess them: and Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as the LORD hath said. God was assuring them of victory, even before they set foot on the land: He would go before them. He would destroy the nations who were occupying the promised land and give them possession.

Don’t become so focused on people that you forget that God is the visionary who mapped out your life path. Your victory is not dependent on people and personalities. There will be many changes in your life. People you depend on will come and go. God’s presence and promise will remain constant. There would be many battles ahead for God’s people Israel, even as there remain many battles for you to fight. Rebellion and disobedience within their ranks would make them lose a few of these battles, but with repentance they would continue forward and conquer the enemy again.

Moses’ death did not change God’s promise to Israel. People and circumstances will not alter His plans for you.

The apostle Paul reminded the Romans that ‘in all these things we are more than conquerors What things? He

lists some challenges that the believers will face: (Romans 8:35) Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Then he says NO! We remain undefeated even in these things, because of God who gives us victory!

What are you facing that seems unsurmountable? Embrace God’s promise of victory. Are you in tribulation?

UNDEFEATED! Are you facing distress? UNDEFEATED! Are you being persecuted? UNDEFEATED! Are you facing food insecurity (famine)? UNDEFEATED! Are you unable to provide clothing for your family?

UNDEFEATED! Are you in danger because of your circumstances? UNDEFEATED! God is with you. He goes before you. He will drive out all these hindrances and deliver you to your destination in the kingdom. It is never about people and circumstances. It is always about God!

Lesson objective: Scripture:

Students learn that they are winners because Jesus protects them.

Psalm 34:7 The angel of the LORD encamps round about them that fear him and delivers them..

Lesson highlights: Today students will learn that God’s angels protect them in times of harm and danger when they pray. They will learn how to pray for protection for themselves and their loved ones.

Brainstorm: What does Jesus protect us from? (Possible answers: sickness (Covid-19?), bad people, etc.)

Story time: Daniel in a den - with the hungry lions! What do you think is going to happen to him? (The story of Daniel in the lion's den teaches us about the promises and faithfulness of God, even if we feel like everything has been lost.

King Darius was ruler over Babylon and had an appointment with several men to help him govern and lead.

Daniel, the leader of advisors, was a man who believed in God and followed the Lord's commands. The other men did not like Daniel and did not want him in charge so they devised a way to get rid of Daniel.

These men knew that Daniel served the God of Israel. They told King Darius to make a new law in which people could worship and pray to only the king and if they worshipped or prayed to other gods, they would be thrown into the den of lion's. The starving lion would eat and kill the lawbreaker.

Daniel understood the new law but committed in his heart to remain steadfast in his prayer and praise to the Lord.

Daniel prayed three times a day with his windows open. When the men saw Daniel and brought accusations against him to King Darius, the king was devastated because he favored Daniel. The king knew he could not change the law and Daniel was thrown into the lion's den.

Was Daniel ever alone? Never! Did the hungry lions eat him? No!

Lesson objective: Scripture:

The children will understand that God gives them strength to accomplish even the difficult things in their lives.

Deut. 31:6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. (NIV)

Lesson highlights: Strong and courageous men and women in the Bible did many great things because they trusted in God. You too have the power to do great things. Today we will talk about two of these courageous men: Caleb and Joshua.

Story: (Numbers 13) God told Moses to send twelve men, one from each tribe, to spy out Canaan, the land promised to the Israelites. The 12 spies, including Joshua and Caleb, left for Canaan. Ten were doubtful and fearful. Two, Caleb and Joshua, were strong and courageous.

After 40 days, the spies returned, bringing back figs, pomegranates, and grapes. The spies reported: ‘It is a good land, but the people are strong, and the cities have high walls.’ Then Caleb said: ‘We can conquer them. Caleb and Joshua trusted in God. But the other ten spies said: ‘No! The people there are huge, like giants! We seemed like grasshoppers next to them.”

Imagine this: after God had given them a promise to be with them, to take care of them, the ten fearful spies could only see defeat! Instead of focusing on God’s strength, they focused on their own weakness. They saw themselves as feeble as insects (grasshoppers) and they saw the enemy as giants! Fear magnifies the enemy in our eyes. Faith magnifies God. We must commit to walking by faith. Hebrews 11:6 says “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

Because the spies doubted God, they had to wander in the wilderness for 40 years, until they all died. How strong are you? It is not about how big you are. Your faith in God is what makes you strong.

Activity: Students share about difficult tasks they were able to accomplish with God’s help.

Students will recognize how their triumphs and failures in the spiritual walk affects others.

Deuteronomy 31:6; 1 Corinthians 9:26-27 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Lesson highlights: Nobody falls or fails alone. We are all inter-connected. We occupy places in the lives of people we may not even know. We are mentors (often unknown to us) to those we invited to church, those we gave a Bible study. Those still unsaved relatives who are observing your walk. Even your critics are looking at you, wondering if God can really do what you said He can. Children have high expectations of adults, especially their parents and siblings. Explaining defeat in spiritual warfare is often impossible, when they see us doing all the things, we taught them not do! There is always somebody watching you, depending on the example of your strength.

The apostle Paul compares the Christian walk to an athlete running a race, He wrote to the Corinthian church that he ran his race with discipline and precision because he intends to win. Paul’s focus is on the end of the race. He knows that the runner cannot win unless he commits fully. He cannot allow himself to be distracted by the scenery. He keeps his body subject to control. He only indulges in behaviors that are allowed. He understands that failing is not an option. Defeat means that after he has preached to others he could be disqualified from the prize of eternal life.

Failure is not an option. You must win this race that God has set before you, in order to receive the prize.

Running well for a hundred meters will not give you victory in a two-hundred-meter race. Taking time off to indulge in forbidden activities will prove costly. Be consistent. Run even when there is no visible audience. Run in agreement with the rules of the race. Remember, God is watching. Run to win.

Questions for discussion 1. How have you been negatively affected by people who failed to keep their commitment to God? 2. What does it mean to be ‘fully committed’?

3. Explain how you could hurt a weak person by not finishing your spiritual race.

G&H Grasshopper or Giant? The Winner’s Mindset Dr. Paulette Wilson

Lesson objective: Scripture:

The students will learn how the mind influences the outcome, and seek to develop the mindset of a winner.

Numbers 13:30-33 Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.” But the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.” And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, “The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature. There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.” (Also, Deuteronomy 31:6)

Lesson highlights: How do you see yourself? How do you see your life? Perception is important. Throughout your life, you will be confronted by people who want to give up the struggle and run away. Perhaps you came to this retreat uncertain of what direction to take. Will you stand on the divine promises or look for a way of escape?

Victory lies in the certainty that God’s precious promises cannot be defeated by circumstances. Defeat is certain if you give in. Will you have faith and persevere, or will you panic and the first challenge and give up? The apostle Paul wrote: (2 Timothy 2:12) I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. Are you fully persuaded that winning is your only option?

You will achieve only what you believe. You will never overcome the giants in your life if you see yourself only as a grasshopper to be crushed under their feet. Twelve men of Israel were sent to spy out the land of Canaan.

They were to report on certain findings: 1. What was the land like? Is it fruitful? (Numbers 13:18) 2. They were to bring back fruit from the promised land. (20) 3. What are the people like? Do they live in tents or strongholds? Are there established cities?

The men went to Canaan knowing that God had given that land to Abraham and his descendants hundreds of years before. They knew God’s promise, yet they returned with a mixed report: The land flowed with milk and honey. It produced fruit in abundance. Nevertheless…they doubted that they could win: a. b. c. d.

The people are strong… (28) The cities are walled and very great…

Giants, the descendants of Anak, live there…

The Amalekites, inhabited the south…

Caleb looked at the promised land and saw an opportunity. He said to Moses: (30) Let us go up at once and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it. The men who went up with him looked at the same situation and saw disaster and defeat: (31) But the men that went up with him said, We are not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we. One man saw ‘well able’ where the other eleven saw ‘not able’!

Winners have faith in God. Winners don’t give up when things get difficult.

What do you see when you look at your obstacles? The men of Israel made the mistake of believing that the enemy was stronger. Arm yourself with the truth: (1 John 4:4) Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. You are stronger because He who is in you is GREATER! Activity: Help children to build an encampment and show how God’s angels create a fortress of protection around His people.

Lesson objective: Scripture:

The children will understand that Jesus helps that to overcome the difficulties they face in life.

But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Lesson highlights: How strong are you? (Talk about strong people they know. Give examples of what strong people do…) Explain how Jesus makes us strong.

Story: Samson the Strong Man Samson with the donkey’s jawbone Samson was a strong man because God made him strong. He was so strong he killed 1000 enemies of the Lord with just a donkey’s jawbone. As long as Samson obeyed God he was a great champion. When he disobeyed God, his enemies captured him and blinded him. Even when Samson was weak, God was able to make him strong one more time so he could be a champion again. When Samson prayed to God, and God gave him strength to tear down the building and kill all his enemies. Samson tears down the pillars You are a champion! God gives you power to win when things get hard. When you are tempted to do wrong, the Holy Ghost gives you power to say ‘no’! Say no to bad thoughts. Say no to bad people who try to make you do and say bad things. Say no to people who try to hurt you. As long as you are obedient to God, He will keep you and protect you from those who want to do you harm.

(Teach the children how to pray for strength in times of stress or difficulty.)

Scripture:

Matthew 24:13 …he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

Lesson highlights: Story: Caleb the winner (Tell the story of the twelve men who were sent to spy out the land of Canaan (Numbers 13) Show how Caleb (and Joshua) refused to give up, even though the other ten spies were afraid.)

Real winners don’t give up, even when the thing they are doing is hard to do. The spies found good things in Canaan. Bunches of grapes so big two men had to carry them on a pole on their shoulders! Bunches of figs and pomegranates! But there were also big, bad people in Canaan. The ten fearful spies said: ‘The people who live there are big and strong. They will kill us.”

Caleb and Joshua said: ‘Don’t be afraid. God is with us. It will be easy to take the land.’ Caleb and Joshua believed God. In the end, God made them winners!

Those who give up never win. The ten spies who were fearful never got to the promised land. Caleb and Joshua did! Do you want to win? Don’t quit!

Students will recognize and arm themselves against our common adversary.

Ephesians 6:12

Lesson highlights: Who is your enemy? What forces oppose your walk of victory? It is important that as a young believer you know who you are fighting against, so you will not focus on people and situations in your life. Your enemy is not the person who gets on your nerves. If you don’t know your adversary, you will not be prepared to fight and you will undoubtedly fail.

The believer’s battle is against spiritual forces, not people. The apostle Paul clearly identifies the enemy: For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. The evil forces that oppose the kingdom of God use all the weapons at their disposal to hinder our growth into all that God intends for us to be. The unregenerate flesh and mind must therefore be brought under control, lest they cooperate with the enemy’s diabolic plan. Carnal desires must not be allowed to determine the outcome of the war.

The believer’s personal battle plays out on many levels. He fights against forces within himself and in the hostile environment around him: 1. He fights his flesh. Because he inhabits a body that is prone to sin, his flesh makes demands on him that contravene the standards of holiness. His flesh demands: Feed me. Satisfy my needs (physical, sexual, emotional) right now! His mind cooperates with his body and suggests endless ways to indulge the flesh at the expense of the spirit.

2. He struggles with unhealed wounds. Open wounds from negative experiences that occurred in childhood (and even as adults) leave a residue of anger, pain and resentment, creating fertile ground for strongholds to develop. The healing process takes time and prayer.

3. He fights against demonic seduction of his mind. Finally, there is the devious, seductive and subtle voice of the adversary, whose whole objective is to pull him downwards into unrighteousness.

As the desire to sin pulls the individual downward to destruction, there must be a superior restraining force that is powerful enough to nullify that downward pull. That force is the power of the Holy Spirit. As we surrender to Him, He empowers us to win the battles of the flesh and the mind and repel the relentless attacks of the adversary.

The undefeated person is one who is submitted to God and engages in consistent prayer and study of the Word.

Just as an athlete nourishes and exercises the natural body, so too the young believer must nurture the mind and spirit.

Question for discussion: 1. Why do we often fight people, instead of facing the real adversary?

2. How can we win this ongoing spiritual battle?

3. How should you nurture ourselves spiritually?

Students will learn that they can still accomplish their divine assignments in spite of perceived obstacles.

Joshua 14: 10-13 And now, behold, the Lord hath kept me alive, as he said, these forty and five years, even since the Lord spake this word unto Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old. 11 As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in. 12 Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the Lord spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the Lord will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the Lord said. 13 And Joshua blessed him and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance.

Lesson highlights: You should never stop fighting, even when things look impossible! Impossibility just opens the door to the realm of miracles. When God gives you a promise you keep moving towards it, regardless of the obstacles. Don’t assign yourself or your calling an expiration date. God unfolds the vision he placed in your heart over time. It may be days of years. We are assured that whatever God spoke will surely come to pass in His time.

Defeat will only come if you give up and give in to your fears. To stop fighting is to lose…

Embracing your divine appointment means rejecting all conditions that are based on fear and weakness. Caleb refused to see the mountain before him as an impossibility. Instead, he embraced it as an opportunity! You would expect an eighty-five-year-old man to slow down, but that was not Caleb’s way. The same Caleb who declared: “We are able” before his quaking countrymen, the first time they came to the mountain, is standing here over forty years later, still able! He still believes that God will grant him victory. Caleb does not ask for the plain. He wants the mountain. He wants the challenge. He believes that God can do the hard thing!

Caleb teaches us that the promised land does not come without challenges. Even though God had promised victory, they still had to conquer it. That is still true today. We fight but not without hope. We fight with confidence, knowing that what God has spoken must surely come to pass.

How often have we compromised and chosen the easy path? Sometimes people settle for the lesser job, the less challenging career path, the easier ministry assignment, because they are afraid of failure. There can be no failure when the believer moves forward in the will of God. Yes, there will be hardships. You may even find yourself bruised and bleeding, but never defeated!

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. That is true in any age. It is not about the mountain before you. It is about the Christ in you.
