Automated Car Parking Systems the smarter way to park The Smart City Mission by the Government of India is an urban renewal and retrofitting program aimed at making 100 cities across the country more citizens friendly and sustainable. The objective is to drive growth and improve quality of life, enabling local authorities and municipal corporations to provide better amenities by harnessing technology to create smart outcomes for citizens.
Car parking is a huge challenge in most Indian cities. Growing traffic and car volumes, increasing carbon emissions and insufficient infrastructure plague Indian cities. As per IBM Global Parking Index 2011, an average urban motorist spends 20 minutes more on the road due to parking problems. This is not only a waste of commuters’ time and fuel but also loss of productivity. Today in 2019, the problem has worsened considerably. A smart parking solution cannot solve all these challenges on its own. But it will always definitely contribute to making the city or municipality more modern, more attractive and more environmentally friendly. Smart parking uses an electronic parking guidance system, which uses parking sensors, dynamic realtime message signs and a mobile-friendly website and application to direct drivers to available parking at the nearby area. This results in fewer cars circling looking for space. The method can also be used to tell commuters if the parking area is full on weekends so that commuters can plan their trip accordingly.
