LIBRARY ACCESS As a Wodonga TAFE student you have full access to the extensive collection of the David Mann Library, a facility we share with La Trobe University Wodonga.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES There are many activities run by students, for students, throughout the year! From pop-up restaurants and coffee labs to art displays and lawn games, there is always something exciting happening on campus.

ON-SITE CAFETERIA Make a change from a packed lunch each day and enjoy our on-site cafeteria that offers a range of cooked meals, coffee, drinks, and healthy meal options for your convenience.

CHILDCARE Our Kids on Campus Early Learning Centre offers long day care, kindergarten, and family day care options for children of staff, students, and the wider community. In partnership with parents, caregivers, children, and the community, our professional Early Childhood Educators develop and implement high quality educational programs that cater for your children’s individual needs and interests.

FREE TAFE AND JOBTRAINER OPPORTUNITIES ABOUT FREE TAFE The Free TAFE for Priority Courses initiative aims to reduce the financial barrier for students wanting to train in courses that lead to priority occupations - those in demand from employers in the Victorian economy. Free TAFE for Priority Courses is a Victorian Government initiative that will pay a student’s tuition fees if eligible*, to study one of the priority courses at TAFE. Students who are eligible for Victorian Government-subsidised training will not pay course tuition fees for a range of: • •

Priority non-apprenticeship courses, state-wide Victorian Government-subsidised apprenticeship pathway courses (sometimes called pre-apprenticeships).

ABOUT JOBTRAINER The Victorian Government has partnered with the Commonwealth Government to jointly invest up to $260 million under the JobTrainer Fund. JobTrainer will provide free or low-fee qualifications for thousands of eligible* people in a wide range of industries identified as having a genuine skills need and employment growth.

Free or low-fee courses are available to Victorians who have been most impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.

School leavers, job seekers and young Victorians can access free or low-fee (concession) qualifications in key industries and occupations, including Free TAFE courses, even if they hold a higher qualification.

STUDY PATHWAYS There are many options you can choose when you need to make decisions about further education and careers. Sometimes it can be hard to know where to start. Wodonga TAFE provides various different services to help you work out which course you want to study, and also help you while you are completing your studies.

VISIT WWW.WODONGATAFE.EDU.AU/PATHWAYS FOR MORE INFORMATION Pathways Program The Pathways Program assists students to access the resources they need and develop the skills and knowledge to help them move smoothly through their education and into the workforce.

Pathway opportunities from secondary school to TAFE Did you know there are direct pathways from your senior secondary school studies into a course at Wodonga TAFE? Completing a Vocational Education and Training (VET) course while still at secondary school provides you with valuable learning and experience that can lead to employment and further study after Year 12. If you have successfully completed a VET course at school you may be eligible for credit which could shorten the length of your studies with Wodonga TAFE. Pathways to university Complete your diploma or advanced diploma and turn it into a degree!

Careerdirect is a pathway program where Wodonga TAFE’s formal partnerships with universities ensure you can move seamlessly from TAFE to Uni! If your course isn’t part of the careerdirect program, don’t worry, as many more of our courses may offer credit into other university degrees – it just depends on the course and the university.

Stepping through TAFE to university with your study provides you with a great education and career pathway that offers you many entry and exit points, so you can study and then enter the workforce with work-ready skills.

It’s a great way for you to diversify and increase your career opportunities, and it opens doors to great options such as working in your field with your TAFE qualification while you earn your degree at university.

VCAL (Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning) As an accredited secondary certificate issued by the Victorian Curriculum Assessment authority, VCAL focuses on careers-based ‘hands-on learning’.

VCAL gives you practical work-related experience, as well as literacy and numeracy skills and the opportunity to build personal skills that are important for life and work. VCAL is designed to provide flexible pathways as you transition from school to further education and employment.

Generalist Counselling A free, confidential counselling service is available to all students about any issues or difficulties you may have whilst studying at Wodonga TAFE. Our counselling staff are highly qualified and experienced and can help with issues such as: • • • • • •

Careers Counselling Wodonga TAFE’s Career Counsellors can help you identify your aspirations, skills and goals to find out your dream career, and what it will take to get there. Our careers counsellors are highly experienced and can assist you with such things as: • • • • •

Koorie Support Wodonga TAFE is committed to providing opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to successfully complete their chosen courses of study in an environment that is welcoming and culturally appropriate. Our Koorie Liaison Officer can provide assistance or make a referral to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students for concerns such as: • • • • • • • • •

Disability Support There is a range of services on offer for students with a disability, mental illness, a medical condition or additional learning needs. Our supportive Disability Liaison Officer is on hand to provide all the support you need to assist you in your education journey. The Disability Liaison Officer can work with you and your teachers to ensure that appropriate strategies are put in place, and can assist in developing an adjustment strategy for successful learning.

Apprenticeship Support The Apprenticeship Support Officer supports apprentices aged 15-24 who are in the first year of their apprenticeship.

The Apprenticeship Support Officer provides confidential mentoring and welfare support to address any issues an apprentice may be facing, while helping them to stay engaged during their training and work.

Student Wellbeing Support This free and confidential service for students is available to all students with no need to book an appointment beforehand. Our Student Wellbeing Officer is available 5 days a week and offers a range of services including: • • • • • •

Negotiating a payment plan for your course fees / debt negotiation Student loans Food assistance Support for immediate concerns, either study or personal Transport advice and timetable (Wodonga TAFE does not provide transport itself) Information/referrals to other support services at Wodonga TAFE and also local community services.

Academic Skills and Study Support Academic assistance for students, including support for culturally and linguistically diverse students, is available as a free service to all Wodonga TAFE students.

There are many reasons why you may need help with your studies. For example, you may: • • • • •

Be returning to study many years after you last studied Have English as an additional language Have difficulties reading and writing due to a learning disorder Have no prior experience in formal report or essay writing Have particular subjects you struggle with e.g. mathematics as part of the engineering course

SKILLS AND JOBS CENTRE The Wodonga Skills and Jobs Centre is your one-stop-shop for anything career and study related. This is an impartial service – it may be located at Wodonga TAFE – but the Skills and Jobs Centre is there to support you in career choices, whether that means studying at Wodonga TAFE, or any other TAFE or university that’s relevant to you!

The Skills and Jobs Centre also focuses on employment skills, providing you with advice and expertise regarding resumes, cover letters, interview preparation, study plans, industry advice for employers, and much more.

KIDS ON CAMPUS EARLY LEARNING CENTRE Imagine a world where your children and their needs are the centre of the universe, where they can express themselves through art, stories, music, dance and performance. Kids on Campus Early Learning Centre is a place where children can plant a vegetable garden and play in an environment away from the noise and pollution of traffic, a rare pleasure for childcare centres.

Tucked away in the beautiful natural environment behind Felltimber Creek, midway between Wodonga TAFE’s McKoy Street campus and La Trobe University Wodonga, Kids on Campus Early Learning Centre offers long daycare, kindergarten, and family daycare services for all families within the community. Our Centre is open from 7.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, and includes long day care, kindergarten, and family day care programs.

At Kids on Campus we have created a safe and positive environment for children to develop and grow, for them to feel comfortable and most importantly to have fun while learning. Our aim is to offer a service to your children that follows routine, develops meaningful relationships, and offers engaging experiences so they feel completely at ease to spend their time in our care. We take the time to get to know and truly understand your child’s personal needs and individual learning styles, their likes and dislikes, and develop a program that meets those requirements for a happy and nurturing experience.

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW There are many different requirements depending on the course you are selecting. Some require you attend an information session, others may request a resume, portfolio or an interview. You will need a Unique Student Identifier (USI) to enrol with Wodonga TAFE. Visit www.usi.gov.au and follow the instructions to create your USI. Your USI will need to be added into your course application to successfully apply with Wodonga TAFE. FEES AND FUNDING The fees you pay will be determined by the course you choose and your funding eligibility which is determined on a case-by-case individual basis.

Pathways and Career Opportunities Highly trained and experienced teachers run programs for people with intellectual or cognitive disabilities at Wodonga TAFE. They ensure students are well-supported as they make the shift to adult education and explore pathways to both further education and work options. Students develop ongoing life and work skills as they build friendships, new networks and actively engage in experiences on campus and in the community.

Through participation in courses such as Work Skills for Life, Transition Education, and Work Education, our students are prepared for their transition to adult life after school.
