Yes, we are faced with the reality that some WMU small groups are on the decline; however, our office has received many requests for new start materials. We continue to make disciples who make disciples and God is opening new doors for us to share His goodness, not only through the Mary Hill Davis Offering for Texas Missions but also through the gift of partnerships. Be encouraged! Our semi-annual Bridge magazines are written with you, WMU leaders and participants, in mind. When we develop content, we ask ourselves this question: what information will our participants need to grow and to meet the needs in their communities? We are here, not to give you a prescribed plan, but to walk with you as you discover the needs in your area and create a plan that expresses God’s heart for the people you are called to serve. Be encouraged! Did you know that you can invite individuals from our staff to come to your church or community to speak or train regarding their area of ministry? For example, if you are interested in starting an Acteens group, then you can invite our Age-Level Strategist to visit your church and help you explore the next steps in starting a group or providing a plan for the community. We also hope that you will take advantage of the opportunity to be equipped with resources and workshops offered during our quarterly regional training events and our annual meeting and missions celebration. These are convenient ways to meet your state WMU staff, ask questions
As society changes and the challenges of sharing the gospel grow, we know that although our methods of evangelism and discipleship may change, our message remains the same… the hope and light needed in times like these comes only from a relationship with Jesus Christ.

D EAR WM U L EAD ER S AC R O S S TEXAS , Fall is here and the new church year is in full swing. I hope your church has prioritized missions discipleship for all ages as a part of your fall schedule. Missions discipleship begins at birth. We have the opportunity to be intentional about what we teach a child. By choosing to remain silent, we risk leaving a void in a young child’s life. We can fill that void by providing age-appropriate missions discipleship. Mission Friends is a great beginning! It provides a perfect foundation to build upon as the child grows. Missions discipleship encourages a healthy Christian worldview. As we learn about missions and what missionaries do our hearts are opened. Hearing world news provides practical opportunities to connect current events to real people, the missionaries on the field. We learn how to pray for our missionaries and how we can partner with them through ministry projects anywhere; even in our own backyard. Once we begin to understand that missions is more than just a trip, our hearts are softened to begin to look for ways to help…by praying, giving, and even going. Maybe even hearing God’s calling on a child’s life, eventually, to answer the call to missions. If you need help in getting missions discipleship started, re-started, or strengthened in your church, we can help. I hope you will plan to bring a group from your church to Calvary Baptist Church, in Lubbock, on Saturday, November 6th for Regional Training. You will have access to workshops and resources to help you provide missions discipleship in your church. 5 Steps to Starting a WMU Group TER I US S ERY Age-Level Strategist, WMU of Texas Since my journey with WMU of Texas began some three decades ago, one question has remained constant. How can I start or grow the missions discipleship groups in my church? Perhaps these 5 steps will help you answer that question. 1 . K N OW YO U R G OA L . Whether starting Adults on Mission, Women on Mission, or Sisters Who Care, make sure your goal is clear. The goal of missions discipleship is sharing the gospel. 2 . L E A R N . As you consider starting a group, look at your community. What needs can your group meet? Identify a place to start. 3 . P R AY. Begin praying about the needs you have identified. Gather regularly to pray and plan for how you can share the gospel. 4. DO. Plan ways to engage your group in meeting the needs you have discovered. 5. S H A R E T H E G O S P E L . As you go, make disciples. Share the good news of Jesus. This is how Jesus ministered. He learned about the need, prayed for wisdom and power from His Father, met the need, and always shared the truth of Who He was. As you consider starting, or growing a group, let the mission of doing be the catalyst. Expand the experience of the group by also engaging in Bible study, learning about missions around the world, and being challenged to pray for and give to missions through your group. Missions Journey: Students This is the second year of the new curriculum format for students and I’m hearing great things! Completely digital, the material can easily be student-led and is completely interactive. Sisters Who Care (SWC) is a ministry of WMU, an expression of Women on Mission in African American Churches. We exist to help women grow spiritually toward a missions lifestyle through discipleship and service. As the new SWC contractor, I look forward to developing lifelong relationships as we strive together to push back the darkness, advancing the Kingdom of God by being the hands and feet of Jesus. I am thrilled to be a part of this awesome sisterhood and to work alongside EDT Tamiko Jones and the SWC Advisory Council. I am no stranger to WMU, as I have been a part of the Louisiana Baptist Convention for more than 15 years. I am a native of Hammond, Louisiana, and my family recently relocated to the beautiful state of Texas. In joining WMU of Texas, I saw the love, compassion, and genuine spirits of those who are serving on the front lines of WMU. By God’s grace, my personal journey has been fruitful. I have served predominantly African American, Hispanic, and Caucasian Women’s Ministry/Missions since 2005. The Lord has allowed me to minister to and disciple countless women over the years. I’m humbled by what He has done and continues to do in and through my life as I am on THE BRIDGE
mission for Him. I have the honor of sharing my time with my best friend and husband of 20 years, Lonnie R. Tucker, and our 3 sons. Lonnie is a Church Starting Strategist for BGCT. I am also the owner of my “God-given”
