BUILDING A MISSIONAL LEGACY WRITTEN BY JACKIE FAUGHN, WMU OF TEXAS PRESIDENT

W

hen you hear the word “legacy,” what comes to mind? Is it your grandmother’s piece of china or a box of old photos documenting the journey and memories of family members?

Could it be a “classic” resource that is still useful but dated due to shifts in traditions and practices over the years? At its core, legacy means passing something down from the past.

In 1880, the founders of WMU of Texas were visionaries who dared to dream of what could happen when women gathered, prayed, gave, and served. Women who came after them built their ideas on the foundation laid by women like Fannie Breedlove Davis, Mary Hill Davis, Eula Mae Henderson, Joy Fenner, and Carolyn Porterfield, building a missional legacy.

We are celebrating the legacy of WMU of Texas; where we have been, where we are today, and where we are going.

Fast forward 145 years to 2025. What is the legacy we are passing down to the generations coming behind us? Consider some ways in which we, today, are creating a missional legacy.

• Focusing on a Biblical worldview of missions • Providing resources for missional discipleship and disciple-making • Praying for the peoples of the world • Giving generously of our finances, time, and passions • Change-maker mindset The brand WMU of Texas carries legacy weight. So often, we hear, “My grandmother was a part of WMU.” The name carries respect and recognition of the work done through the

organization. However, the mindset is stuck to “grandmothers” being involved in missional discipleship rather than the current generation that embraces giving, going, praying, and serving with a robust lifestyle.

Legacy includes three components.

• Nature: WMU of Texas has a reputation for training and providing resources for missional discipleship. The impact of WMU of Texas, through the Mary Hill Davis Offering, has impacted countless lives through the work of our ministry partners, Texas Baptists. Annually, around 80 ministries are granted funds to share the Gospel of Jesus across our state and around the world.

• Focus: Our foremothers did not waver in their commitment to the Biblical missions mandate. The focus or purpose remains solid now and for the future.

• Duration: For 145 years, WMU of Texas has remained a vital part of Texas Baptist life. As materials and resources are developed for today’s women and the changing cultural impacts, our organization is prepared to strongly continue the kingdom work set before us.

What is the legacy that you are developing today? Will someone say, “I know Jesus better and serve Him because (insert name) met me for coffee and had Gospel conversations with me.” Look for small ways to leave your legacy. Because we each leave one, either for the kingdom or not.

En 1880, las fundadoras de WMU de Texas fueron mujeres visionarias que se atrevieron a imaginar lo que Dios podía hacer cuando Su pueblo se unía para orar, dar, servir y vivir con propósito misionero. Las generaciones que siguieron continuaron edificando sobre el fundamento establecido por mujeres como Fannie Breedlove Davis, Mary Hill Davis, Eula Mae Henderson, Joy Fenner y Carolyn Porterfield, formando así un legado profundamente misionero.

BETTER TOGETHER Celebrating the Impact of our Missions Discipleship Partnerships

n 2025, WMU of Texas Adult Ministries set out with a clear mandate: to foster deep-rooted partnerships that empower leaders from different communities and contexts.

From the college campuses of North Texas to the vibrant communities along the border, we’ve seen firsthand that ministry works best when we all move together. Here is a look at how these connections are bearing fruit.

EMBRACE

Mentoring The Next Generation of Women Leaders Texas Woman’s University (TWU) Baptist Student Ministry (BSM) has found Embrace, a mentoring program for young women, to be a central resource for fostering deep and meaningful discipleship relationships among students.

This curriculum is more than just a workbook; it has proven to be an excellent tool for intentional spiritual development.

At WMU of Texas, we know that behind every great student leader is a mentor who needs support, too. After a great training day with BSM directors, WMU of Texas Adult Ministries is now planning a special retreat for the women who lead BSM campus ministries at colleges across the state.

A PLACE TO BREATHE

Support for Church Planter Wives

Starting a new church is exciting, but it can also be a heavy load, especially for the wives of ministers and church planters. We wanted to make sure these women knew they weren’t alone.

Through our Pursue: Annual Meeting gathering, themed “Remember the Call”, we invited them to take a break from their busy schedule to celebrate their unique ministry calling through sessions dedicated to ministerial encouragement, practical self-care strategies, and maintaining a healthy home life amidst the demands of local church ministry.

The combination of fellowship and genuine connection provided an experience that both encouraged and equipped all who participated.

We also spent time at the Texas Baptists Annual Planter & Wives Retreat in Galveston, Texas. Recognizing the unique challenges and spiritual demands placed on spouses, WMU representatives intentionally devoted time to being a presence at the retreat.

This commitment was focused on offering encouragement, providing a listening ear, and engaging in prayer for each woman present.

WMU provided a vital opportunity for genuine connection, helping the wives feel seen, supported, and understood

within the broader Texas Baptists community as they navigate the complex and rewarding journey of church planting.

SERVE BROWNSVILLE

Serving Together Along the Border

Our mission also took us to the border for the “Serve Brownsville” project. Led

by WMU of Texas border missionary Vanessa Lerma, this was a true team effort. We joined forces with local churches, Buckner International, the Baylor School of Nursing, and Send Relief to help families prepare for the new school year.

By working together, we were able to provide school supplies, new shoes, and backpacks to kids who needed them most. The mission trip ended with a back-to-school party that brought so much joy to the neighborhoods.

Through Serve Brownsville, we saw that when we combine our resources, we can do so much more than just hand out supplies; we can share the love of Christ in a way that people can truly feel.

From mentoring students and their directors to supporting wives and serving families, 2025 has been a year of building bridges. We are so grateful for the partners who make this work possible!

A

t Pursue 2025, more than 400 attendees gathered on April 4–5 to embrace the theme, “Speak Jesus.” This year’s event encouraged participants to move beyond personal growth to boldly share their faith with others.

Throughout the two-day gathering, participants discovered that missions discipleship begins by building intentional relationships.

These relationships naturally lead to meaningful conversations about following Jesus.

Every believer is called to speak the name of Jesus, and this call reaches every nation, tribe, language, culture, and neighborhood.

Attendees were challenged to remain open to the Holy Spirit’s guidance in daily life: • Intentional Presence: What if your local coffee shop knows you by name because you consistently meet friends there for spiritual conversations?

• The Power of a Name: We speak in the authority of His name—a name that brings power, healing, and life.

• Multiplication: The journey of missional discipleship begins with each individual.

THE PURSUE IMPACT • Beyond inspiring worship, Pursue provided practical tools in workshops, equipping attendees to return home and to their churches ready to engage.

• Attendees assembled more than 300 Compassion Bags for families along the border as part of the Border Ministries Mission Project.

• In the Exhibit Hall, attendees connected with 27 ministry partners, fostering opportunities to move from personal discipleship to active ministry.

EQUIPPING THE NEXT GENERATION Through ReNew for Teens, students in grades 7–12 were given a dedicated space to hear from young missionaries and participate in hands-on prayer experiences, helping to ensure the baton of missions is passed to the next generation.

FOSTERING CONNECTIONS AND SPIRITUAL GROWTH Through special gatherings for ministers’ wives, Laotian fellowships, retired missionaries, former board members and Sisters Who Care, attendees found abundant opportunities for fellowship, meaningful discussion, and shared spiritual growth with like-minded women.

As we move forward, we pray that each attendee will continue to embrace the call to “Speak Jesus”— equipped, inspired, and ready to impact every generation and every community.

urante los días 4 y 5 de abril, más de 400 personas se reunieron en Pursue 2025 para reflexionar sobre el tema: “Hablar de Jesús”. El evento de este año desafió a los participantes a ir más allá del crecimiento espiritual personal y a compartir con valentía su fe con quienes les rodean.

A lo largo de los dos días de encuentro, los participantes descubrieron que el discipulado con enfoque misionero comienza al cultivar relaciones intencionales. Son precisamente esas relaciones las que abren la puerta a conversaciones genuinas y transformadoras acerca de seguir a Jesús.

HABLAR DE JESÚS EN TODO LUGAR Cada creyente ha sido llamado a proclamar el nombre de Jesús. Ese llamado trasciende fronteras, culturas, idiomas, generaciones y comunidades. Los participantes fueron animados a vivir atentos a la dirección del Espíritu Santo en su vida diaria: • Presencia intencional: ¿Qué sucedería si en tu cafetería favorita te conocieran por nombre porque constantemente te reúnes allí para conversar y compartir de Cristo con otros?

• El poder de Su nombre: Hablamos con la autoridad del nombre de Jesús: un nombre que trae esperanza, sanidad, poder y vida.

• Multiplicación del discipulado: El discipulado misionero comienza con una persona dispuesta a obedecer y compartir. Luego, ese impacto se multiplica en otros.

EL IMPACTO DE PURSUE • Más allá de los momentos de adoración e inspiración, Pursue ofreció herramientas prácticas a través de diversos talleres, preparando a los asistentes para regresar a sus iglesias y comunidades listos para servir y discipular intencionalmente.

• Como parte del Proyecto Misionero de Ministerios Fronterizos, los participantes prepararon más de 300 bolsas de ayuda humanitaria destinadas a familias de la frontera.

• Además, en el área de exhibiciones, los asistentes tuvieron la oportunidad de conectarse con 27 ministerios y organizaciones asociadas, fortaleciendo así oportunidades para transformar el discipulado personal en acción ministerial.

EQUIPANDO A LA PRÓXIMA GENERACIÓN A través de ReNew for Teens, estudiantes de séptimo a duodécimo grado contaron con un espacio especialmente diseñado para ellos, donde escucharon testimonios de jóvenes misioneros y participaron en experiencias prácticas de oración. Este enfoque ayudó a afirmar y transmitir la pasión por las misiones a la próxima generación de creyentes.

New Disciple-Making Tools for Individuals and Small Groups

ou may be wondering what it means to be a disciple-maker.

Simply put, it means doing what Jesus did with His own disciples.

He walked with them, invited them to join Him as He ministered, shared the truth of God’s Word, and helped them apply what they were learning about living the God-life.

So what does that have to do with you?

Jesus left one primary purpose for His disciples when He left the earth as the resurrected Lord. In Matthew 28:18-20, He told His followers to make disciples as they are on their life’s journey. As you are going, make disciples.

Then in Acts 1:8, Jesus reminded His followers to spread the Gospel throughout Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the uttermost parts of the earth. Jesus modeled being a disciplemaker during His life on earth.

Now, He challenges all His disciples, including you and me, to do what He did.

SMALL GROUP MENTORING Second, Jesus also called small groups to join Him. He didn’t have just one or two disciples. He called twelve. I would call that a small group. That is another way Jesus discipled His followers.

l sábado 1 de noviembre de 2025, familias se reunieron en la conferencia Familias en Misión: Somos Obreros para un día lleno de la presencia de Dios. La conferencia ofreció una oportunidad única para que familias completas fueran discipuladas y equipadas para vivir de manera misional, recordándonos que cuando las familias sirven juntas, ¡el Reino de Dios se expande!

Durante el día, los niños, jóvenes y adultos participaron en sesiones inspiradoras, alabanzas y momentos de comunión. El enfoque fue claro: motivar a las familias a comprender su papel en la misión de Dios y a tomar pasos concretos en sus hogares, iglesias y comunidades.

MARY’S HOUSE Where Missionaries Inspire and Equip the Next Generation

hile WMU’s Annual Meeting and Missions Celebration inspired us to “Speak Jesus” to the nations, it is often in quiet, domestic spaces like Mary’s House that those words take root in the next generation.

In 2023, after nearly four years of planning, the dream of “Mary’s House”, a partnership between Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (SWBTS) and WMU of Texas, became a reality as it welcomed its first missionariesin-residence (MIRs) serving with the International Mission Board (IMB).

Today, what was once an empty building has become a bridge between the global mission field and the local classroom, proving that the most impactful ministry can also happen in cozy living rooms.

A PLACE FOR RESPITE AND RENEWAL For the MIRs who call this house home, Mary’s House provides more than just two apartments; it offers an essential season of respite and renewal.

Families like Joe and Susan, Jonathan and Wendy, and missionaries such as Hannah, Marci, and Becky find Mary’s House to be a place of safety and renewal for their children and themselves. It is here, in the midst of the SWBTS community, that these seasoned missionaries find the peace needed to prepare for their next assignment.

DISCIPLING THE NEXT GENERATION What makes Mary’s House truly unique is its role as a “living classroom” for SWBTS students. The missionaries-in-residence do not simply live in the community; they actively pour into it.

• Frequent Interaction: MIRs frequently host students and small groups in their homes and around campus, providing a rare and personal glimpse into the life of a missionary.

• Practical Insights: These interactions offer students invaluable insights into the journey of missional disciplemaking, helping them discern their own callings.

• Mentorship: By sharing their testimonies and current struggles, residents like Hannah and Becky help bridge the gap between theological study and the practical realities of the mission field for students.

We are so thankful to have gotten to live in Mary’s House on campus of SWBTS for a few short months. Grateful for WMU and SWBTS’s

The Christian Men’s Job Corps program at River City Hope Street believes that providing a clear career path is a powerful way to share the love of Christ. Every job I found required even a small amount of computer skills, and because I had never learned to use computer programs, I was afraid of computers! I had heard about CWJC and assumed it was just a place with a room full of computers you could practice on by yourself with a teacher to give you some pointers … boy, was I wrong!

After my first day here, I knew the Lord was going to use CWJC to rescue me from the darkness. The classes and curriculum were all so well put together and organized.

estled in the heart of Rusk County, the Christian Women’s Job Corps (CWJC) has been quietly transforming lives since 2002. Though Henderson is the county’s only town, CWJC also serves women from nearby rural communities like Laneville, Minden, Mt. Enterprise, New London, Overton, and Price. Over the years, their impact has grown, with graduates now working across the service industry and beyond.

CWJC’s presence is felt deeply in the community. Graduates frequently reconnect with staff, sharing memories of classmates and dedicated teachers. Many students juggle their education with work, and CWJC staff make a point to advocate for them with employers. In one inspiring example, a student and her manager are helping each other learn English and Spanish.

The organization also partners with the local library to improve access for non-English speakers and those without proper identification. CWJC provides students with IDs that grant them access to books through a shared library card system— an initiative that has built trust and sparked a love for reading among participants.

A community favorite is the “Read with Me” program, which encourages family literacy by supplying books students can keep and read at home. One student shared how reading was new in her culture, but it’s now a joyful family activity.

CWJC’s impact is recognized by local schools, businesses, and even government offices, which often reach out with job openings. Through education, connection, and compassion, CWJC is building stronger families and a brighter future for Rusk County.

MANY NATIONS, ONE FAMILY Celebrating WMU’s Multicultural Ministry

ecause of your faithful giving, the Multicultural Ministry of WMU of Texas is seeing tangible, eternal impact across cultures and generations. We aren’t just sharing a message; we are building a community where everyone has a seat at the table.

Our Daughters of Many Nations initiative has become a powerful movement of encouragement and equipping. This year alone, it impacted more than 100 women leaders and pastors’ wives from diverse cultural backgrounds. These women gathered for fellowship, leadership training, prayer, and spiritual renewal. Many serve faithfully behind the scenes in multicultural churches, often carrying heavy responsibilities. Through this initiative, they found not only training, but also belonging, affirmation, and renewed vision. Your support created a space where diversity was celebrated, unity was strengthened, and leaders were empowered to return to their communities refreshed and equipped to multiply their influence.

Masterpiece has also flourished as a strategic outreach to the next generation.

More than 50 young college women from different cultural and religious backgrounds participated in this welcoming event. In partnership with Texas Baptists’ Baptist Student Ministry, these students experienced authentic community, meaningful conversations about faith, and a clear Gospel presentation. Many heard biblical truth for the first time in a relational and culturally sensitive environment. Seeds were planted, friendships were formed, and lives were touched.

Behind these signature initiatives, we strengthened our foundation by forming a six-member Multicultural Leadership Development Council, building relationships through more than 150 church visits and consultations, and encouraging Vietnamese, Laotian, African, and Korean WMU fellowships.

issions Mania combines missions education, discipleship with outdoor fun.

Royal Ambassador (RA) Ryan Moore, 11, came to Texas Royal Ambassadors’ Campout and Missions Mania in November – the second time for the RA – “because I want to learn about God and tell others,” he said, but added his “favorite part is the axe throwing.”

It’s a common theme among many of the campers. They’re attracted by the fun of a campout with plenty of activities, but come away from the three-day event learning more about the work of missions at home and around the world, as well as deepening their relationship with God. Savion Lee, RA Coordinator for Texans on Mission, said that formula is by design. “Missions Mania is a family weekend retreat for churches to get excited about being on mission for Jesus,” he said.

“Events take place through the weekend: We have all sorts of field activities in the morning and the afternoon. Families can come in, spend the night on Friday night and get ready for a full day’s worth of activities.”

He said while the program starts with morning activities, “during the afternoons we have our missions emphasis where we open up a missions exhibit hall, Missions Central, where we bring in missionaries from all over Texas and in places from around the world to tell all these families how they go and tell others about Jesus.”

Lee said the annual event, supported in part by the Mary Hill Davis Offering for Texas Missions, is “important for churches and families because we’re all called to be on mission for Christ. To our families, to our communities and around the world. And so a weekend like this allows families to get excited about being on mission.”

Among those families is one, recalled Lee, that has answered the missions call. “One of our missionaries in Missions Central has inspired a family to go and be on mission themselves.

And so they’re beginning the process of becoming missionaries, using the trades that the Lord has gifted them with locally and in other countries.”

Missions Mania also holds opportunities for participants like Pedro Chavez, who is in his fifth year coming to Missions Mania, and Samuel Jefferys, who is in his 10th year of attendance.

“This is one of the camps that I’m able to spend time with my family,” Chavez said. “Probably my favorite thing to do is checking out the missionaries and, listening to what they have been doing and how they help out with sharing the Gospel.”

“There’s a lot of fun going on,” added Jefferys. “There’s camp crafts, do a lot of activities and we get to learn about the outdoors. We get to learn about missionaries and just have a fun campout and learn about God.” “I’ve been coming back because it’s a place to see other Christians...younger and older, where we can just get

GOD’S TIMING IS PERFECT The Heart of WMU of Texas Border Ministries

t WMU of Texas Border Ministries, we believe that God knows our needs and that His timing is always perfect. This was evident in 2025 during many mission trips and projects by churches, ministries, and individuals along the Texas-Mexico border.

As volunteers visited families alongside WMU of Texas Missionary Vanessa Lerma throughout the year, they often heard the same response: “You are here at the perfect time”. Many families were given meals at the exact moment they were unsure of what they would do for dinner that night.

A STORY OF NEW BEGINNINGS One of the lives touched this year was a woman named Miriam.

Miriam grew up in the church and was baptized as a teenager, a decision her mother was very proud of. Years later, after having her daughter, Alexis, Miriam started a discipleship class. Through that class, she felt convicted and realized that her childhood decision had been for her mom rather than herself.

Miriam chose to be baptized again with a true understanding of her faith. Shortly after her baptism, the church celebrated her daughter’s dedication. Today, Miriam continues to attend church faithfully with Alexis and serves on the welcoming team.

SERVING TOGETHER AT THE PARK In 2025, we had the opportunity to serve over 3,000 people, and we celebrated as 27 people made professions of faith. One of these moments happened at a local park where we worked with three churches to distribute clothing and food bags while sharing the hope of Christ.

While there, a volunteer named Rita sat down next to Elizabeth, a girl about 12 years old. They spoke and listened to a Bible story together. Afterward, Elizabeth approached Rita and asked if she could accept Jesus into her heart. Elizabeth, who had already been attending church with her father, left the park excited to tell him about her decision to follow Jesus.

LOOKING FORWARD We know that there are many others like Miriam, Alexis, and Elizabeth who need to hear about Jesus and build a relationship with Him. We ask you to pray for them and for those who share the message of Christ with compassion.

FOUNDATIONS OF FAITH Building Hope at the 15th Annual Women’s Build WRITTEN BY: TERI USSERY, WMU ADULT STRATEGIST

S

ince 2010, WMU of Texas has upheld a meaningful tradition of constructing homes in a colonia along the Texas-Mexico border. This initiative is a collaborative effort with the Buckner Family Hope Center, which helps provide safe housing to families chosen and vetted by Buckner International.

What began as a simple vision to offer shelter has grown into a profound opportunity to serve as the hands, feet, and heart of Jesus. Over the years, many families have found salvation as Women’s Build teams selflessly dedicated themselves to their care.

The 2025 build continued this legacy, offering its own unique blessings.

A CONSTRUCTION SITE BECOMES HOLY GROUND

The project was a true relay of service.

Women’s Build Team One worked tirelessly to complete the initial phase of the home while building strong relationships with the family. After a house dedication, they handed the site over to Team Two to finalize the construction.

Team Two quickly realized that God’s plan for their week extended far beyond finishing a beautiful building.

Throughout the week, they were given many opportunities to share the Gospel.

The entire site felt like holy ground, a place where God’s presence was clearly felt by everyone involved.

HIGHLIGHTS OF ETERNAL IMPACT The 15th Home Build was marked by several stories of transformation and faith: • A Place of Peace: The new home became a refuge for a young boy in the neighborhood, a friend of the family. Despite living in a difficult environment, he found comfort at the site and accepted Christ during the week.

• A Personal Relationship: A Buckner employee, who had previously identified as Catholic but lacked a personal relationship with Jesus, prayed with the build team to receive Christ as his Savior.

• Generational Faith: A family friend who helped provide lunch for the workers accepted Christ during the build. Interestingly, her own family had previously received a home built by First Baptist Church of Garland, Texas.

• Continued Connection: One young woman who participated in the 2024 build as an unbeliever stayed in contact with a team member through a very difficult year. After facing the loss of her home, car, and job, she made the decision to receive Christ just before this year’s project. She reconnected with the group and joined the team for worship on Sunday.

As the work week came to a close, Team Two spent their final afternoon driving through the surrounding neighborhood to pray. It was evident to all that God was at work in this community.

FINDING PEACE AT THE TABLE

LIVING WATER IN GRAND PRAIRIE

For “Gloria,” a new resident at the Poiema Foundation safe house, the transition was filled with anxiety and fear. As her move-in day approached, she wrestled with many unknowns about the program and her future. On the day she moved in, she spoke with a staff member who offered encouragement grounded in biblical truth.

In Grand Prairie, a difficult week began when a local fire led to water contamination, leaving many residents without usable water for several days. Schools were closed, but an apartment church continued to meet.

Gloria noticed something profound: her advocates, her mother, and her friends had all been telling her the same thing. She went on to say that the funny thing about the Holy Spirit is that He loves to say the same thing through different people, so it was like we were all eating at the same dinner table, sharing the same nourishing meal of the scriptures.

On a day when only two elementary-aged children were present, a substitute teacher shared a story from the Bible. As the teacher spoke, one child began asking questions about Jesus and declared, “I want to be a Christian too!” His sister quickly shared the same desire. Elated, the teacher gently asked them what they meant, and they shared that they wanted Jesus to forgive them for their sins. Together, they then prayed to receive Jesus into their hearts.

The following morning, Gloria shared that she had never woken up with so much peace. She had truly put her faith in God.

What started as a difficult day with no water ended in a beautiful transformation for two children.

A NEW CHURCH IN LUBBOCK Mark Caballero was raised in a home filled with faith and music.

His father, a West Texas pastor, taught all six of his children to play the guitar, and the family became well known for their evangelistic music ministry. Although Mark served as a musician from a young age, he did not personally know Christ as his Savior until he was 29.

A major turning point came at age 48 when his father passed away. This loss led Mark into a season of deep spiritual growth and a response to God’s call into the ministry. Two years later, he joined the Lubbock Area Baptist Association Church Planting Center. This 40-week journey provided training in ministry and offered a path toward healing after the loss of his father. Today, Mark has successfully launched Grace Church South in Lubbock with an initial attendance of 126 people. His journey is just one example among more than 30 residents in the Church Planting Center’s annual cohorts.

The Texas Missions Offering provides funding to the Texas Baptists Church Planting Ministry, enabling the purchase of essential materials for training future church planters and pastors.

necessary support to bridge the gap between her seminary studies and a career in international missions. Now preparing to move to Paris, France, Meghan sat down to discuss how God’s plan and the support of WMU of Texas shaped her journey.

Q: Meghan, let’s talk about your missions journey. When did it actually begin for you?

Meghan Ditty: When I was a freshman in college, I went to a special chapel event with David Platt. I went to get chapel credit, and that was the first time I heard anyone say straightforwardly that people who don’t hear about Jesus aren’t going to heaven. That really broke my heart. I realized you have to hear about Jesus to believe in Him. At that point, I had no idea what I wanted to do for a career, but I started thinking that there was nothing holding me back.

Q: When did that initial realization turn into a specific commitment?

Meghan: In February 2020, my church was doing a sermon series on missions. On the Global Missions Day, I remember feeling the Holy Spirit telling me to respond. When it was appropriate, I went to the front, spoke with my college pastor, and committed my life to missions. I said, ‘This is what I’m going to do with my life. I’m going to continue to pursue this until God says otherwise.

Q: Your commitment happened just before the global pandemic. How did that impact your plans?

Meghan: A month after my commitment, the whole world shut down. Everything went crazy because of COVID. I was supposed to go on a mission trip to England that summer and couldn’t go; I was devastated. I had a mini crisis and asked, “God, why did you call me to this, and then allow all of this to happen? Do you not want me to go?” I continued praying, and though I couldn’t leave the country, I was able to interact with many refugees on trips to Houston and Fort Worth. It confirmed that I love ministering to people from other countries.

Q: How did you decide to pursue seminary, and what role did the Eula Mae Henderson Memorial Scholarship play?

Meghan: I figured out that I needed seminary credits to pursue a career with the IMB. I started seminary immediately after graduating from college. They told me about the ‘2 plus 2’ program, which is an MDiv in international church planting. You do most of your credits on campus and then go overseas for two or three years to finish up classes. I have been in school for the last three years, and the Eula Mae Henderson Scholarship really helped with a lot of things during that time.

Q: Now that your studies are complete, what is next for you in France?

Meghan: I’ll be in Paris. My priority at first will be language school to learn French for a few months. Most of what we do involves events like volleyball and English club to meet people in the community. I want to be able to sit down, share my testimony, and ask about their story. I’ll also be helping with a new church plant in our neighborhood. I’m getting to do what I imagined … doing fun things in the community, making friends, and sharing the Gospel.

Q: How can WMU of Texas pray for you as you begin this work?

Meghan: I would love for you to pray that the French people we speak to are receptive and will believe in Jesus. I’d also love it if you could pray that another teammate joins soon. The girl I’ll move in with is going home in July, and if nobody comes, I’ll be working and living alone for most of my term. Finally, pray for ease in learning French. Pray that I’ll have patience with myself and quickly learn to communicate the Gospel clearly in French.

The WMU of Texas Administrative Endowment was created to eventually support the administrative costs of the annual WMU of Texas ministry budget.

The endowment will ensure the longevity of the ministry and supporting positions.

is a partnership that began in 1999 benefiting WMU of Texas and national WMU. It provides missions resources and training for church and associational WMU.

was renamed in 2021 in memory of Becky Ellison. This endowment was started in 2002 in celebration of CWJC’s fifth anniversary. The endowment provides grants for sites as well as scholarships for CWJC/CMJC graduates to continue their education.

was created in 1986 in memory of Miss Henderson, who served 34 years as the executive leader of WMU of Texas. This endowment provides scholarships for women pursuing a career in WMU or in missions who are enrolled in graduate study at designated schools in Texas.

VALERIO ENDOWMENT FOR HISPANIC MINISTRIES

was created in 2016 to honor the missions contributions and leadership of Pastor Mike and Mary Valerio. Mary is a former president of Hispanic WMU of Texas and the first Hispanic woman to serve as an officer of WMU of Texas.
