Coach Vestal has been married for nine years to wife Emily and they have two young boys ages three and one. He loves spending time with his family and doing things together whenever possible. His wife Emily is very supportive of Derrick and loves to be there watching whenever she can.
The Chiefs will be running an up tempo spread offense this season under Coach Vestal. They will be running a hybrid type spread offense as many players will play multiple roles in this fast-paced offense. If you like watching Josh Heupel’s offense at the University of Tennessee, you’ll love watching the Chiefs go up and down the field this season. Coach Vestal stated that if the season were starting today (at the time of this interview), that Cooper Self would be the starter at Quarterback. Vestal said that Cooper at this point has a better grasp of the offense. Cooper will have some very capable receivers that can go up and get the ball. 6’1” Emmitt Duff and 6’4” Joshua Ellis. Duff could end up being the go-to guy when a first down is needed but the height of Ellis will make a huge difference on those 50/50 balls. Look for Ellis to come away with most of those. But the Chiefs will definitely not abandon the run, as Kylan Carson will play a major role at tailback. If you know anything about the Chiefs, then you know that Carson is known as “The Dude” when he is in full battle gear.

On the Defensive side of the ball, the Chiefs will be running a 3-stack defense. This defense requires three good linebackers lined up behind the 3 down linemen. Coach Vestal has multiple linebackers that can get the job done. Ethan Hunt and Aaron Hunt will get plenty of work at linebacker along with Micah Shedd, Emilio Sanchez, and Ben Murphy. A few of the Chief’s top linemen that will be counted on heavily this year are Cooper Lovingood, Cody Wilson, Landon Slack, and Brayden West. When you look at this year’s team, you’ll notice two things right away. 1.) They are bigger and 2.) They
are stronger. These players have been working hard in this offseason. Coach Vestal is excited about his staff this year as he stated, we will get back to fundamentals. We will do fundamentals each and every day and I have the staff that will get the job done. He has Shemar Collier as the Defensive Coordinator, Avery Jones You must coach ‘em hard, as the wide receivers coach and assistant defensive backs coach. Nathan Lynn will be the offensive and defensive line coach and correct them when they’re Drew Carson will coach the rover and the running backs. Junior Giles will also help with the running backs and the offensive line wrong and love’ em in and Haden Houser will coach the inside linebackers. And obviously, Coach Vestal will be the Offensive Coordinator. everything else. All of the coaches will help with the special teams as this could end up being extremely important for the Chiefs. Josh Ellis will more than likely be the punter with Ben Murphy — Derrick Vestal Head Coach and Estaban Ramirez playing a key role in this year’s success. In terms of leadership, the Chiefs have several players that are stepping up and becoming leaders for this hungry football team. As a matter of fact, Coach Vestal has already named five captains and plans on naming one more. Those five leaders and captains are as you would expect, Cooper Self, the quarterback. Emilio Sanchez, Micah Shedd, Emmitt Duff, and Kylan Carson.
