June 2018
This ancient Easter greeting, or something similar, has been used for millennia by Christians as we celebrate Jesus’ Resurrection. This is the Central Truth of our faith – that Jesus HAS been raised from the dead, and that we are invited to experience his resurrection presence in our lives today as individuals and as the Church, the Body of Christ. Through the Resurrection we have life, forgiveness and salvation in Jesus. This is the gospel that we preach and hold on to. Christ Is Risen! He Is Risen INDEED!!!! We are so pleased to be able to celebrate the Resurrection IN THE SANCTUARY this year. As we’re in the Orange COVID Tier, we are allowed to have 50% of our building’s capacity in worship. Masks are required – even for singing. We have the pews marked off for social distancing, have 6’ markers down the aisle, have hand sanitizers and temperature and health checkers standing by – everything is ready for your return – but please don’t come if you have underlying health concerns, have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID recently, or are unwell. We want you to be safe! A BLAST FROM THE PAST Speaking of entering the sanctuary, I received a letter from a former WLC member, Barbara (Johnson) Lestrange. She was a member in 1947, and her father took this photo of our FIRST sanctuary being built. Can you imagine Westchester being that barren and open? She also included the newspaper clipping/photo of the groundbreaking from 1947. Only one name in the clipping is familiar to me: the founding pastor, Rev. K. G. Egertson, was the uncle of our former bishop, Rev. Paul W. Egertson. As excited as we are to re-enter the sanctuary for worship, try to imagine how excited our predecessors in the faith here were as they started building it! They were building, literally (!), the foundations of our faith here. The same gospel we believe and proclaim was the foundation of that original building and of their faith. Please Join Us in Worship on Easter Sunday at 10 am. We’ll continue to live-stream everything, and holy communion is offered for all.
Christ Is Risen! He Is Risen Indeed!
