Children of the Light: Catechumenate Sessions for Children and Families Blessie La Scola

We, the Church, are to welcome and invite those children who have not yet been baptized, have come to an age of understanding, and are of catechetical age to be a part of the process of faith formation. This manual encourages directors of faith formation and catechists to be creative and to draw on their own faith experiences as they prepare children to receive the sacraments of initiation through the RCIA as adapted for children.

This second volume of the Children of the Light resource builds on the children’s evolving faith formation first explored in the precatechumenate period and developed in the first volume. Misa Luna Revision per the Misal Romano WLP’s premier bilingual Mass setting, Misa Luna by composer Peter Kolar, has undergone substantial revisions based on the recently released Misal Romano.

The composer has worked diligently these past several months to adapt and prepare Misa Luna so that it conforms to the official texts in English and Spanish. The revision has already received approval for publication from the U.S. Bishops Committee on Divine Worship. The existing version of Misa Luna (from 2011) will be replaced by the “2018 revision,” complete with new product numbers for its various editions (see list below).

Stopping Along the Way: Stations of the Cross John Shea This contemporary Stations of the Cross, written by theologian and storyteller John Shea, is designed for a leader and congregation.

While in keeping with the traditional devotion, it also contains aspects of liturgical drama. At each station a character presents a monologue that connects the Passion of Christ with contemporary forms of suffering, followed by a brief reflection by the leader, a period of silence, and a short sung response—a total time of forty-five to fifty-five minutes for the whole service. Based on several years of intense study and research, Christopher Moroney and SAVAE have imaginatively and brilliantly reconstructed the music that Jesus might have heard in the temple and synagogue of the first century C.E. The ensemble learned to play reconstructed instruments of the period especially for this new recording- varieties of plucked and bowed strings, wind instruments like the shofar, flute and duduk (Middle Eastern clarinet), and percussion. The music has been recreated from Hebrew melodic fragments, Babylonian Jewish music, and traditional songs that have passed down through the ages from the time of Jesus. The end result is an amazing restoration of what Jesus would have heard.
