Rosefield Twp., road commissioner named in lawsuit By BILL KNIGHT

What officials see as a political feud has moved from a series of police complaints to civil court, as Bradley and Sylvia Badgerow last week filed suit against Rosefield Township and Road Commissioner Matt Windish. The Badgerows claim the Township improperly asserted jurisdiction over Township road right-of-way, trespassed and damaged their property there, For The Weekly Post

and unlawfully took property, all stemming from incidents of clearing brush and trees near the intersection of Wolford and Texas Roads and burning the resulting wood pile. However, the dispute seems connected to ill will created when Windish replaced the previous Road Commissioner, Mark Vicary, who farms that Badgerow parcel. Vicary lost to Mike Lafollett in the last election’s Republican caucus in December 2012, and Windish,

who ran as an Independent, defeated Lafollett 129-57 in the Spring 2013 election. Hard feelings may be most evident in the number of incident reports the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office has from complaints by Vicary’s then-girlfriend, nowwife, Megan (Miller) Vicary – mostly about Windish and the Township. “She’s been on a vendetta for Windish ever since he replaced her boyfriend in office,” said Continued on Page 7

Busy session for Brimfield school board

HOMECOMING FUN

By TERRY BIBO

BRIMFIELD – Despite dissent, Brimfield Unit School District 309 will fence in the kids and open the gate for booster club membership. Both issues cracked a board which usually votes as one. Then an anonymous donor converted last month’s most divisive issue – whether or not to accept donated land which came with restrictions – into a unanimous decision to accept it. “We had a donor come forward thinking it was in the school’s best interest to have that property without strings attached,” said BUSD Superintendent Joe Blessman. 219 Clinton In May, Anita Cotter offered the lot adjoining school property for $20,000. But if the district would agree to keep the land green, maintain a fence and designate it in some way for her father, Willard Hasselbacher, Cotter would donate it gratis. While appreciative, Blessman and some board members worried those restrictions might cause problems for future administrations. Ultimately, the board voted 4-3 to accept it anyway. A Weekly Post reader volunteered to pay the $20,000 instead, and Cotter has signed off, according to Blessman. For The Weekly Post

Restaurant newest downtown Farmington business By MICHELLE SHERMAN

FARMINGTON – The pair behind CRAVE Inc. in Farmington hope to bring something a little different to the culinary offerings in the area. “I grew up here. We still, essentially, have the same restaurants that I grew up with,” said Chris Clardy, co-owner and For The Weekly Post

head chef. “I knew it couldn’t just be me that wanted something a little out of the ordinary.” He, along with partner Chas Killen, has developed a restaurant that has a lot of buzz swirling before the official opening. A few hours after they began to take reservations for Saturday’s grand opening, Clardy said several reservations had

been placed. The restaurant was backed by the Farmington Betterment Association, which has been integral in revitalizing the downtown area. “It’s been a really great relationship so far,” he said of CRAVE’s partnership with the FBA. CRAVE is the latest of several new Continued on Page 8
