HARVEST HOME PARADE

By JEFF LAMPE

ELMWOOD – Palace Theatre owner Vern Reynolds is reaching out to the community for help one more time. Faced with a bill expected to be close to $45,000 for conversion to digital projectors, Reynolds is seeking donations to help defray the costs of the upgrade. Reynolds and others also put together a fundraising effort that generated nearly $20,000 following the 2010 tornado. This time around Reynolds has created a Digital Movie Club, offering three levels of donations to help pay for conversion. The event will take place again this Saturday on a 30x300-foot competition area on the north side of the community center on the east side of town. Weigh-in starts at 6:30 a.m. and the pull starts at 9:30. Admission and parking is free. Food will be served. “A bunch of guys got together – Johnny Megan, Dale Megan and Curt Mottaz – and said, ‘Hey, we For The Weekly Post

said crews will sweep up loose rock and slag this fall for re-use. “We swept up 310 Tons last year, enough to use on miles of road.” Elsewhere, the Township continues to grapple with the one-lane Black Bear Coal Mine Bridge off Christ Church Road, damaged by a vehicle in a February 2012 wreck. Side barricades were installed to keep it open, but state and county engineers have suggested raising the tiny bridge if it’s repaired or rebuilt, and it remains unclear whether insurance covers the

damage or if the township needs to initiate legal proceedings. Township Supervisor Karl Koy will look into the case and report in September. The board unanimously approved an alert service provided by South Side Bank to help protect the Township from unauthorized electronic financial transactions. The new “ACH [Automated Clearing House] Risk Alert” program will notify township officials about township transaction via email daily for a Continued on Page 2
