Williamsfield board tables renovation By JEFF LAMPE
WILLIAMSFIELD – Just four days after opening bids for a longanticipated office consolidation and remodel of the Williamsfield school, the Board of Education voted Monday to table bids pending more research. After first rejecting the lowest of seven bids submitted by contractors, board members voted 4-3 in favor of tabling the project indefinitely. Voting in favor of a motion to table were Brian Howard, Angela Powell, Bob Rask and Teresa Stewart. Weekly Post Staff Writer
Those against the motion were Janet Collopy, Tom Kordewick and Vicki Massie. After rejecting a low bid of $325,900 from Goodin Properties, LLC of Williamsfield, there was brief talk of accepting the next low bid of $486,100 from Laverdiere Construction of Macomb. That discussion ended after Howard’s motion to table bids. “I’m disappointed about some of the things that were said tonight because I think it slows us down from moving forward for the good of our
students,” Superintendent Tim Farquer said. “But I’m a lifelong resident of here and I’m not giving up.” Farquer has been planning for several years to consolidate district offices and to create a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) lab in the former district offices. Farquer has spoken often of the increased safety that would come from the new offices and the increased educational opportunities afforded by a STEM lab.
