PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE_________________________________________________________________ Members of the WJT Board have just completed an enlightening 12 hour course on antioppression and systemic racism. This is work that is being done by most theatres across the country because theatre is meant to educate and inform, as well as entertain. We endeavor to be a mirror of the society we live in. WJT is committed to addressing the concerns of all those who have been marginalized in our society, and we recognize this is an ongoing process that will evolve over time. True Colors is a collection of humorous and inspiring stories written and performed by Jewish people of Colour. These actors and writers are exploring their dual identities as both Jewish and Black and challenging how they fit into their respective communities. True Colors will be offered online at no cost. We will be having a forum that includes Jewish women of colour, as well as a local Rabbi and our artistic director. We anticipate a healthy exchange of ideas and an abundance of important insights. Please join us for the monologues as well as the panel discussion. There is no going back, only forward beyond COVID. Theatre as we know it has changed forever and for good. See you in the theatre, Miriam Kohn WJT Board President

ARTISTIC DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE______________________________________________________

“Modern times call for open heart and open minds.” - from True Colors, Both/And by Maria Ramos-Chertok.

True Colors is a prescient mosaic of stories that calls on us to open our hearts and minds during this historic time for social change. This is a time for Jewish communities to stand with members of other targeted and marginalized communities to take action against white supremacy and systems of oppression by being actively anti-racist and reflecting on ways in which we have been complicit in racist systems. Over the past few years, WJT has taken the Jewish philosophy of Tikkun Olam, which means repairing the world, as a guiding principle in all that we do because Tikkun Olam is also a call to action for the pursuit of social justice. When it comes to fighting anti-Black and anti-Indigenous racism the work is never done, much like the continuous efforts to battle antisemitism and participate in Reconciliation. We produce plays on Treaty One land in a multicultural city with a vibrant theatre community. While WJT’s mandate is committed to the continued cultivation and sharing of Jewish culture, I wholeheartedly believe we must also remain dedicated to investigating the similarities and differences between cultures to keep our artistic practice relevant and necessary on stage. I also believe we must unite in the struggle for respect of our cultural identities off stage and out in the world to truly encompass the spirit of Tikkun Olam. Sincerely, Ari Weinberg Artistic and Managing Director
