#20 NOKWANDA NDLOVU

As a SYM nominee running for SRC, I advocate for the cancellation of student debt through a bailout by the State. More funding allocation to eradicate hunger on Wits campuses and free menstrual products for Wits students and staff. Adding workshops on GBV in O–week program is vital. Organization of student-workers for example tutors to confront the exploitation of postgraduate students.

Acknowledging academic exclusions as institutional violence is worth abolishment in favour of an academic solidarity culture. Student representation through a conversion of the Student Forum into a full Student Parliament. If elected, I will ensure that systemic injustices are addressed.

Leadership is an action, not a position.

I am running as an Independent Candidate, as I believe that the representatives should not be partial to, or aligned with, any political interests except those of the students — their constituents. Moreover, I believe in the Delegate Model of Representation over Mandate & Trustee Leadership. As a result, I will lob an aggressive effort to DEMYSTIFY the office of SRC by installing greater TRANSPARENCY and ACCESSIBILITY to the statutory body by holding frequent “Lekgotlas” (Panel Discussions and Q & A sessions), wherein, as opposed to the SRC dictating orders to the students, we get our cue from the students as to what issues are relevant.
