SRC GENERAL ELECTION

SRC President Message

To Wits University's Robust, Vibrant, and Intellectually powerful student body.

"As the 2025/2026 SRC election season begins, it is essential that we reflect and reinforce our commitment to creating an inclusive, equal, and conscious University. At Wits, student leadership has always been a battleground for core principles of South African higher education therefore your involvement and participation, whether voting or running for office, is a revolutionary act.

We have a history of driving national transformation, from #FeesMustFall to the demand for a Century of Inclusion. Movements like Wits Asinamali and KoboYaThuto have shown us that education should be centered in dignity, not sold as a privilege. These movements were led by revolutionaries, not passive observers.

We need student leaders who will challenge the status quo, speak out without fear, and organize beyond the ballot. This is a time for revolution, not just elections. It requires all of us: candidates, voters, activists, and students. Let's remember the words of Mam Charlotte Maxeke: "The work we do is not for ourselves but for the people. Kill the spirit of self and never live above your people. If you can rise, bring someone up with you."
