Cheltenham 22 : 83 Witney
Whilst not the First Team’s biggest win ever, it was certainly one to savour. The biggest win on record was away at Supermarine, 5 : 89, more on that later. In Cheltenham our points, of which there were plenty, came from; Jon Derrick x 1, Liam Cook x 1, Ollie Dawkins x 1, Cam Ayris x 1, Connor Pummery x 1, Josh Rhian x 2, Gareth Jenkins x 2, and yeas you guessed it, Captain Matt Webb x FOUR! Charlie Dunbar landed 7 conversions with Liam Cook landing 2. A great performance all round.
Today we travel to Old Centralians who managed to take 5 points home with them after a 24 : 47 win at Hailey Road. That win went against the run of play, our First XV dominated the majority of play but a few lapses in defence was the difference back in October. That was then, this is now, come on you Black and Blues.

Back to that high scoring win. In the 2006/7 season we saw Witney’s first XV win home and away against Supermarine, the big win away was in December 2006 and was rounded off at home with another great performance 63 : 0. That is an aggregate of 152 : 5. The biggest win on record was a friendly, away at Swindon in 2004/5 season with Witney scoring 109 unanswered points.

Some familiar faces there, but how many can you name?

2 Be or not 2 Be!

Travelling with just 11 players, the Angels knew they were in for a tough afternoon at Royal Wootton Bassett, and that proved to be the case. Although numbers were made up by borrowing from the opposition, the contest was always going to be a challenge, and the 66–0 scoreline reflected the difficulties of the day. Coming off the back of two excellent wins, this was an unwelcome result, but simply getting a side on the pitch was a real credit to the tenacity and spirit of the Witney ladies. Despite the challenges, there were several standout performances. Ailsa Shaw impressed at scrumhalf, holding her own against a ferocious RWB number nine, while Becki Downham, playing out of position at number eight, delivered a terrific performance that caught the eye.
The coaches were also pleased with the work of the forwards, who managed to turn over a number of RWB scrums and showed real grit throughout the match. Onwards and upwards. The Angels return home on 8th February to host Didcot Valkyries, where we look forward to putting on a strong performance in front of the home crowd.
