MATCH DAY Programme RoyalWotton Bassett v Witney

Oct 25th KO 3pm

Chairman’s Welcome

First Things First!
Witney 24 : 47 Old Centralians
Forgive me but, ‘what happened’? For large parts of that game Witney were in control, dominant but not converting that dominance into points. Without 4 breakaway tries and a defensive lineout shambles you have a different story. Still there were positives, but what happened? Points came from; Tries Jack Daubeney, Sam Turberville, Finn Ayris and Josh Rihan. Charlie Penton landed 2 Conversions. Josh Rihan, just everywhere and rightly MoM. Next up Royal Wootton Bassett II. Sitting just below us in the league with one win under their belt, this should be an opportunity to get our season started again. With no rugby on at Hailey Road this Saturday, why not pop on down to Ballards Ash and get behind the boys in Black and Blue.
Royal Wootton Bassett II v Witney. 3pm.

THE VIPER’S BITe
Witney II 36 : 31 Abingdon
A double header at home with the Vipers starting early, and what a game. Talking to the Abingdon faithful before the game they were confident, and rightly so, they made a proper game of it. The Vipers were strong though and with tries coming from; Jack Strong, Will King, Monty Hinge x 2, and one from Josh Whitehead the try bonus was secure. But we needed the boot of Charlie Dunbar to bring it home, 2 conversions and 3 penalties, 13 points, unlucky for Abingdon.
Yellow cards are still causing us problems, this time it was Harvey Wattleworth and Zach Way joining Team Yellow. You never know, we might just get a game of 15 players for 80 minutes, now wouldn’t that be nice.
Next up, probably Didcot away 01 Nov in the County Cup, yet to be confirmed. Enjoy the weekend off lads, you’ve earned it.

Angels Calling!

NOVEMBER

Academy The Future’s Bright!
Royal Wootton BassettA 25 : 5 Witney Academy
HT (5 : 0)
The Academy bowed out in the 2nd round of the National Cup away at Wootton Bassett. Gale force winds and rain made playing conditions tricky, but the home side adapted better to the conditions and took their chances when presented. The visitors were only 5-0 down at half time to a breakaway try from the Bassett try line. All the more frustrating as Witney had spent most of the half camped in the opposition half. The home side added a further two converted tries and two penalties in the second half, with Witney adding a consolation try from a brilliant solo effort from halfway from Zack Gold in reply.
If we learn anything from this game, it must be to play the conditions, take your scoring chances when they are presented and don't forget to bring the Fire, Water, Ice and Lightning in the right areas of the pitch!
Two Sundays of training to follow to put it right in time for Henley in the League
MOTM: George Smith (great work rate throughout)
DOTD: Mathew Foord (how did you finish upside down trying to catch the kick off?)
