The Heart of Home
I
Dr. Gary Pool and his family have spent decades serving Houston County through orthodontics, faith, family values, and a lasting commitment to investing in their community.
In many ways, the story of the Pool family is best understood through the rhythm of everyday life in Houston County. It can be seen in the places they serve, the relationships they have built, and the way their lives continue to intersect with the people around them. For Dr. Gary Pool, that rhythm has remained steady through several decades of caring for patients and investing in others. Through his work as an orthodontist, he has shaped a life centered on serving people, one that has naturally extended into his family and into the community they call home. Even now, his work continues with the same energy and focus, always seeking to stay current and provide the best care to those he serves. That commitment to people began long before his practice ever opened. Growing up in Tifton, Georgia, Gary was shaped by a life surrounded by farmland and long days outdoors. Through 4-H, he spent his early years showing livestock and learning responsibility at a young age, where hard work was simply part of everyday life. That same mindset carried with him to the University of Georgia, where he served as a counselor at Rock Eagle. In those summers, working closely with students and investing in their growth, he began to recognize how much Hometown Living At Its Best

he valued building relationships and walking alongside people through important stages of life. As he considered his future, he was drawn toward a field that would allow him to combine that connection with his interest in science. Orthodontics provided that opportunity, giving him a way to work with patients over time while helping create confidence through something as personal as a smile. After meeting at the University of Georgia, where Gary was a senior and Kima a freshman, their relationship quickly grew into something steady and enduring. While Gary continued on to dental school and later orthodontic training, the two spent several years navigating long-distance before beginning to think about what it would look like to build a life together. As that next chapter came into focus, they began searching for a place to establish both a practice and a home. Their path led them to Warner Robins at a time when the area was still growing, and what began as a simple visit quickly became something more. Within a single day, a series of conversations opened doors they had not expected. With the help of local businessman Larry McNeal, they found a home, began planning their practice, and stepped into a community that welcomed them

from the very beginning. Looking back, it felt like a clear confirmation that this was exactly where they were meant to be. They stayed, and over time, they became deeply rooted in the area. Dr. Pool’s orthodontic practice grew alongside the community, becoming a place where relationships were just as important as results. Patients became familiar faces, and over the years, those same families returned with children of their own. His approach has always reflected consistency, care, and a genuine enjoyment of the work itself, a commitment he continues to carry forward each day as he remains engaged in his practice and focused on providing the highest level of care. Gary and Kima raised their three children, Brannon, Rebecca, and Mary Ivy, in a household where faith, responsibility, and connection were part of everyday life. At Central Baptist Church, their family found a place to serve, build friendships, and invest in others. Over the years, that involvement has included teaching, mentoring, and opening their home to students and families. Today, that same commitment remains a meaningful part of their lives, as they continue to serve and stay closely connected to their church community. Those same values shaped the way they spent time together as a family. Some of their most meaningful moments came through simple traditions that carried from year

Some of their most meaningful moments came through simple traditions that carried from year to year. to year. Family ski trips to Colorado became a favorite, rooted in a decision Gary and Kima made early in their marriage. They wanted their children to learn together, experience new places, and spend time together away from the pace of everyday life. Those trips created lasting memories filled with laughter, challenge, and a growing sense of closeness. That same commitment to time together has continued through fall Saturdays spent attending University of Georgia football games, where gathering as a family has remained just as meaningful as the game itself. (Go Dawgs!) At home, life was full and constantly on the move. Between school events, church activities, and the everyday responsibilities of raising a family, their days were rarely quiet, but they were meaningful. Gary and Kima created an environment where hard work, consistency, and personal responsibility were simply part of life. Their children grew up understanding the importance of following through, setting goals, and giving their best in whatever they pursued. Over time, those values began to take shape in their own lives. Brannon followed a path into dentistry and now serves
Outside of the office, Dr. Pool continues to enjoy the same activities that have long been part of his life. the community through his own practice. He is married to Sabrina, a forester with Global Cellulose Fibers in Oglethorpe. Rebecca became a pharmacist and, along with her husband Rustin Evatt, a pharmacy manager at Publix in Bonaire, continues to serve families across the area. Mary Ivy pursued veterinary medicine, a calling she recognized early, and now cares for animals locally at Westmoreland and Slappey Animal Hospital. She and her husband, Hunt Smith, who owns a State Farm agency in Bonaire, have also made their home in the community. Each of them built their own careers, married into local families, and chose to return to Houston County. That decision reflects the kind of upbringing they experienced. Houston County offered strong schools, lasting relationships, and a sense of belonging that stayed with them even as they left for college and began building lives of their own. At home, they had also seen what it looks like to invest in people, stay connected, and build something shared with others. Now, those same values are beginning to show in the next generation. The Pool family is now in a chapter filled with young grandchildren, where time together is a regular and cherished part of life. Luke, Lucy, Eli, Walker, Miller, and Joanna bring energy and joy to every gathering, with

another grandchild on the way. Family time is lively and full, shaped by long-standing traditions and new memories being made along the way. Christmas mornings begin with Scripture, a practice that has carried through generations. Living rooms become stages for a family nativity, with grandchildren stepping into familiar roles year after year. In these moments, both planned and spontaneous, there is a deep sense of joy in simply being together. Outside of the office, Dr. Pool continues to enjoy the same activities that have long been part of his life. Whether it is hunting, fishing, or riding tractors and four-wheelers, those moments are now often shared with his grandchildren, passing along a love for the outdoors while creating new memories together. for over the years. After several decades in practice, he continues to approach his work with the same energy and enthusiasm, staying current in the field of orthodontics in order to provide the best possible care for his patients. When asked about retirement, the answer is simple: not anytime soon. In many ways, it still feels like he is just getting started. Alongside it all, Gary and Kima enjoy traveling together and spending time with their children and grandchildren, remaining closely involved in their lives. The Pool family’s story reflects a deep appreciation for the place that made so much of life possible. Houston County provided more than an opportunity to begin a practice. It offered relationships, support, and a sense of belonging that has remained through the years. As their family continues to grow, so does their gratitude for the community that has been part of every step along the way. HCL

SOARING TO NEW HEIGHTS Deep In the heart of Georgia,
you’ll find a place steeped in a strong sense of hospitality, comfort and welcome. You’ll also find the largest industrial complex in the state. By today’s history standards, Warner Robins is in its infancy, having only sprung to life in 1943. But by today’s industrial standards, the city is matured as home to some of the world’s most advanced aerospace engineering and avionics technologies. Because it was here the city was founded as home to Robins Air Force Base. And what the city may lack in years, it more than makes up for in pride of place, a strong sense of unity and patriotic spirit. Visiting the city for the first time, one may wonder at the F-15 Eagle mounted in take-off position in front of Warner Robins City Hall. It not only stands as a permanent reminder of American history and ingenuity, but of the plane’s status as a tactical fighter whose design and acceleration allow it to achieve air supremacy, triumphing over and outperforming any other aircraft. An inspiring symbol for a city in transition and on the rise, it also stands as a testament to the bond and camaraderie between Warner Robins and Robins Air Force Base. The military presence is seen throughout the town, evident in local restaurant names, car washes, water towers and murals, as well as the world-class Museum of Aviation. When they say, “Every Day in Middle Georgia Is Armed Forces Appreciation Day”, they truly embrace it with deep respect, reverence and affection. They honor veterans with big parades and ceremonies around Veterans Day and Memorial Day and salute the country, active service members and veterans with an unparalleled Independence Day Celebration. In fact, many veterans who were stationed at the base return to Warner Robins after retiring to settle in the area, continuing to contribute to the city’s rich traditions. Such as Friday nights in the fall at McConnell-Talbert Stadium where the city’s unwavering support and hometown pride for its high school football programs are on full display. Or in the summer when the city hosts the Little League Southeast Regional Tournament. With exceptional youth sports, a world-class recreation center, multiple parks, lakes and trails, along with highly ranked schools, this is a family-friendly city that embraces sports and education like few others. Also known as the International City, a rich tapestry of cultures makes up the Warner Robins community. From Mexican, Greek and Indian to Korean, Thai and Japanese on any given day, residents and visitors can sample the world. A variety of festivals, events and farmers markets throughout the year celebrate this multi-cultural heritage, local arts, music and holiday traditions. Beyond the base with its 24,000+ employees, job opportunities in manufacturing, retail and technology add to a diverse and growing economic base. From aerospace to agribusiness, advanced manufacturing to food processing, logistics and high tech, Warner Robins supports innovative businesses and boasts a tech skilled workforce, providing many reasons to invest in the community. And Fortune 500 companies have taken notice with investments in initiatives, such as the Community Innovation Lab. This is a city putting innovation in action and being recognized for it, with accolades like the International Smart City Award. Of course, being centrally located off I-75 within easy proximity to Atlanta, the mountains and the coast only strengthens its draw. Certainly, in recent years a new attitude in Warner Robins has taken flight. Along with revitalizing the city’s downtown core, bold new initiatives, including the development of workforce housing are on the table. A closeknit city that blends history and tradition with forward-thinking ideas and new growth is a city with vision, tenacity and faith for the future. The Air Force saying, “Aim High” is a call to action. One that’s more than fitting for Warner Robins, a city that’s ascending

Finding the
Right Angle Flip Archie’s lifelong passion for creativity—from music and art to video, real estate media, and filmmaking—has shaped a career built on storytelling, patience, and helping people see the deeper story behind every project.
L
Long before there were camera rigs, drone shots, real estate media packages, or film projects attached to Flip Archie’s name, there was a television screen paused on a cartoon and a young creative trying to draw what he saw. That image says a lot about the way Flip’s mind works. He has always paid attention to the frame in front of him, but he has also been interested in what could be built from it. Before video became his professional lane, creativity had already introduced itself through sketching, guitar, recording equipment, and a bedroom studio that began to take shape when he was only fourteen years old. Flip describes himself simply as a lifelong creative, but the simplicity of that phrase comes with decades of practice behind it. He started playing guitar at eight years old, began producing music at twelve, and entered the world of sound during a time when making music required hardware, instruments, and a willingness to learn through trial and error. That early season trained
22

him to study the details, solve problems, and stay curious long enough to understand how all the moving parts worked together. His love of learning has followed him into every creative space since. Flip is fully self-taught, and he still talks about the learning process as one of the forces that keep him moving. When he was working in music, there were buttons, knobs, notes, and machines to figure out. When he moved into video, he found a new world of software, equipment, movement, and composition. For some people, that much technical depth can feel overwhelming. For Flip, it became part of the appeal. Video eventually became the place where his creative instincts found room to move. After years of building a foundation in music, Flip found himself drawn toward visual storytelling in a way that expanded what he was already creating. It gave him a new direction and opened another kind of storytelling, one that allowed him to work with timing, atmosphere, and emotion in a way that felt
Hometown Living At Its Best
23
Perspective is more than a point of view. It is the discipline of paying attention long enough to notice what others might miss. For Flip Archie, that has shaped a creative life built through sound, image, motion, and story. He has spent years learning how to notice what others might overlook, whether that means hearing a song differently, finding the stronger frame, or studying the story beneath a brand.
both fresh and familiar. Through Innovizual Motion Pictures, Flip has built a body of work that includes music videos, commercial projects, branded content, and now filmmaking, but the common thread is the way he approaches each project before the camera ever starts rolling. That kind of work requires more than technical skill, and he seems to understand the value of giving an idea enough space to become what it needs to be. In a world where content is often expected to be fast, constant, and disposable, his process moves with a different rhythm. He is comfortable calling his approach a little old-school because he likes to take his time. He writes ideas by hand, fills notebooks,
24

and works in pen because it keeps the thought on the page. For him, the early stages of a concept are personal and protected, something allowed to take shape before the finished work finds its way to an audience. Patience is part of what makes his work feel intentional. He is not trying to create something polished for a moment only to watch it disappear into a feed. The finished piece needs to matter, and connect to the audience. Strong visuals, in his view, should do more than catch attention. They should help people understand the heart behind a person or brand. That is where quality shows up: in the thought behind the work, the care in the details, and the way the audience feels the difference before anyone has to explain it. When asked what part of his creative process people rarely see but would likely appreciate, he pointed to the research. Before a project begins to take shape, he studies the person or company behind it. He pays attention to where they have been, how their brand has changed, and what story they may be ready to tell next. For him, the background work matters because a project should feel connected to the people it represents, not simply designed around what looks good on a screen. His ability to recognize opportunity from a different angle also helped shape Gate Images, the real estate media side of his work. With a background already rooted in video, photography, and visual storytelling, real estate became another space where those skills could help people experience a place before they ever
26 houston county living
stepped inside. A home has to be seen before it is ever toured, and he understood how much presentation matters in helping people connect with a space. What began with photography grew into a fuller real estate media service that included video, aerial work, and 3D tours. It became a meaningful part of his professional story while still fitting into the larger creative vision that has always guided his work. His larger creative interests are also leading him deeper into narrative filmmaking. One of those projects is Bar Exam, a psychological thriller centered on “a bartender forced to manipulate her husband into sabotaging a murder trial to keep her family alive.” It is a premise with tension built into every corner, giving him room to work with pacing, atmosphere, and the kind of storytelling that keeps an audience leaning forward. The project gives him another place to use the instincts that shape much of his work: patience, intention, and a careful eye for what makes a story connect. Even as his creative work continues to stretch into
broader spaces, Middle Georgia remains part of the landscape that helped shape his perspective. He appreciates the pace of the area and sees something honest in the creative community around him. There are people here with stories worth telling, ideas worth developing, and talent that deserves room to grow. The creative energy may be more grassroots than what people often associate with larger cities, but that is part of what gives it its strength. It feels less manufactured and more personal, which may be why it fits so well with the way he approaches his own work. Another part of his work is making room to share what he has learned with others who are still finding their way creatively. He has spoken with film students at the Houston County Career Academy and remains open to helping others understand video production in a practical, approachable way. His advice to emerging creatives is grounded in experience: begin with what genuinely interests you and stay willing to learn. That guidance comes from someone who has lived the
Hometown Living At Its Best 27
process firsthand, building his skill through curiosity, practice, and the patience to keep getting better. His career has moved through music, video, real estate media, and film, but the larger thread has stayed consistent. He creates with patience, studies with purpose, and approaches each project with the belief that the best work does more than fill a screen. It helps people see. HCL

A Creative
Kind of Care
Melissa Reynolds transformed her years of hospice care, personal loss, and faith-driven reflection into Unboxed Design Co., creating meaningful creative experiences that help women find rest, renewal, and purpose.
S
Some words stay with a person because they seem to name what the heart has known all along. For Melissa Reynolds, one phrase has become deeply personal: “I say, everyone wants to be the sun, but I’m called to be the moon. Bringing light in the darkest hour.” This sense of calling has followed her throughout much of her life, especially during her years of healthcare work centered on hospice and end-of-life care. Work like this gives a person a different perspective on what matters. Hospice brings life into focus because it places people near the final chapter, where priorities often become clearer than they were in the rush of daily responsibility. In those sacred spaces, she has seen how deeply people long for presence, family, connection, peace, and a life fully lived. Over time, this perspective began changing the way she understood her own pace, her own priorities, and the pressure so many women feel to be everything for everyone. They work, serve, nurture, manage, encourage, organize, and carry more than most people ever see, often while silently believing they

should have it all together. Through her own growth, she began to understand that wholeness does not require perfection. Sometimes, it begins with admitting you are tired, making room to breathe, and learning to care for yourself as part of a whole and meaningful life. That understanding came through years of work, family, and service that asked a great deal from her. She started working at 16, later became a medical assistant, and eventually returned to nursing school while raising her children alongside her husband Terry, who has always been one of her strongest sources of support and encouragement. Graduating as a registered nurse at 36 represented late nights, family sacrifice, and the steady belief that the next step was still worth taking. Her professional path led her through cardiac care, hospice case management, and leadership, but beneath every role was the same steady thread: people. Their stories, their families, and their most tender moments taught her that
compassion matters just as much as skill. As her responsibilities grew, so did the toll of carrying them. Leadership fit her strengths because she cared deeply, worked hard, and naturally noticed what other people needed, yet the pace eventually became unsustainable. Long hours, emotional demands, and the pressure of managing so much began affecting her sense of self and her faith rhythm. What looked like success on paper began to feel disconnected from the life she wanted to live, and taking a needed pause from that role became an act of faith as much as a professional decision. She is passionate about reaching women who may find themselves in a similar season of life. Hospice remains close to her heart, and she continues to serve in that field in a different rhythm than before. But stepping back from the weight of leadership gave her margin to listen and return to parts of herself that had been waiting for attention. Hometown Living At Its Best

Jewelry, paintings, and handmade pieces had become a steady outlet during stressful times, giving her mind somewhere to settle and her hands something useful to do. For a while, she created simply because it brought her joy, often giving pieces away because sharing something handmade felt personal and life-giving. This would be the start of Unboxed Design Co. A more personal shift came during her father’s illness. Because she had taken time away from the intense demands of her previous role, she was able to spend extended time with her parents in Tennessee, something she now sees as an incredible gift. That time allowed her to be present with her dad and her mom in a way she may not have been able to otherwise, and it became one of the clearest reminders that stepping back had made room for something deeply important. When her father’s

life came to a close, grief changed the way she related to creating. What once felt therapeutic began to feel connected to pressure and expectation, so instead of forcing it into a direction that no longer felt right, she allowed the vision to deepen. That vision led to the next chapter of Unboxed Design Co. Melissa knew that she wanted to create an opportunity for women to step into a creative setting designed for rest, reflection, and renewal. The experience is meant to feel welcoming from the beginning, giving women a place to step away from the noise of the day, settle into the moment, and move through a hands-on process with thoughtful meaning throughout. It is the kind of environment where conversation, imagination, and intentionality work together, allowing each participant to slow down long enough to notice what she has been holding and what she may be ready to release. While some gatherings
may include painting, mixed media, or canvas work, the heart of Unboxed is larger than any one project. One of the most meaningful parts of the experience is that participants do not know the creative project ahead of time. That intentional choice helps remove the pressure to prepare, compare, or perform, allowing each woman to simply show up, engage the process, and discover the meaning as it unfolds. No art experience is needed, because the finished piece is only one part of what they take home. The deeper invitation is found in the journey itself: showing up, settling in, and allowing creativity to become a pathway toward clarity and peace. In one recent gathering, women began by writing on the canvas the things they had been holding beneath the surface, including stress, self-doubt, and quiet expectations that can weigh on a person without ever being seen. From there, the creative process invited them to move through the pressure of daily life, the importance of intentional choices, and the possibility of making room for joy again. By the end, each participant had created something beautiful to take home, but the meaning reached far beyond the finished piece. The canvas became a reminder of what had been named, what had been released, and what could be held differently. That is where mindfulness becomes something practical rather than trendy. In everyday language, mindfulness means learning to pay attention on purpose. It is noticing what is happening in the mind and body without immediately judging it, avoiding it, or rushing past it. For women who spend their days responding to everyone else’s needs, that kind of pause can feel unfamiliar at first, yet it can also be deeply grounding. When a woman settles into a creative moment with her hands engaged, her attention focused, and no pressure to prove anything, her mind has the chance to slow down long enough for her to hear what she may have been ignoring. Growth often becomes possible when a person has enough room to slow down and practice a different way of responding to life. The mind learns from what it repeats, much like a path becomes easier to walk the more often it is taken. When someone begins choosing a new rhythm, such as naming what they feel, pausing before reacting, and meeting self-
Some words stay with a person because they seem to name what the heart has known all along. For Melissa Reynolds, one phrase has become deeply personal: “I say, everyone wants to be the sun, but I’m called to be the moon. Bringing light in the darkest hour.” This sense of calling has followed her throughout much of her life, especially during her years of healthcare work centered on hospice and end-of-life care.

criticism with compassion, the brain gradually begins to recognize a different way forward. That is the everyday beauty of neuroplasticity: the brain can adapt, heal, and learn new patterns through repeated experiences. Over time, small choices can teach the mind and body how to move through life with more steadiness, awareness, and peace. This kind of gathering gives women an approachable place to practice that change. It helps them remember that rest belongs in a well-lived life, reflection can bring renewal, and personal growth can begin before every detail feels perfectly arranged. Creativity becomes the doorway to something deeper, offering a chance to step away from the noise long enough to reconnect with God, the present moment, and the parts of themselves that are often crowded out by responsibility and routine. Melissa sees this chapter as an opportunity to refresh others while finding renewal in her own life as well. The gatherings are built with care, prayer, and a willingness to begin before everything feels flawless. That matters because many women wait until life is

perfectly arranged before giving themselves permission to rest, heal, and try something new. Unboxed Design Co. gently challenges that mindset by offering a place where imperfect beginnings are welcomed. Houston County has become an important part of Melissa’s story. She and her husband share a deep love for the people who call this place home, and much of their life has been shaped by serving others in different ways. His work in law enforcement and her years in healthcare have given them unique paths for caring for their neighbors, while this creative offering gives her another way to pour into the area they love. In many ways, Melissa is still doing what she has always done. She is still bringing care into tender places, helping people move through meaningful moments with honesty and gentleness, and choosing to be the moon, offering light where people may need it most. Only now, she is doing it with creativity, color, conversation, prayer, and an open seat for the woman who is ready to believe in herself again. HCL

I
In many Houston County homes, there is at least one person holding everything together while quietly not feeling like themselves. Sometimes it is the woman carrying the schedule, the family, the mental load, and a dozen responsibilities no one else fully sees. Sometimes it is the man beside her, pushing through fatigue, weight gain, low drive, poor sleep, and changes he keeps telling himself he will deal with later. More often than not, it is both. What families in this community have needed for a long time is not another quick fix or another place to chase symptoms one by one. They have needed someone to connect the dots. That is what makes Revitalize Aesthetics & Wellness different. Revitalize’s presence in Houston County is deeply personal. My wife, Hannah Woodley, RN, MSN, CRNP, is a Houston County native, and she saw firsthand the need for this level of care in her hometown. Bringing it here was not simply a business decision. It was personal. It was about
making sure the community she came from had access to the kind of thoughtful, comprehensive care it has needed for a long time. Revitalize was built to bring Houston County a more complete, more personal approach to care. Through a functional medicine model, the practice brings hormone replacement and hormone management, medical weight loss, gut health, sexual wellness, exercise guidance, personalized meal plans, workout plans, and aesthetic services together in a way that reflects how real life works. Instead of treating fatigue, body composition, digestion, intimacy, and confidence as separate conversations, the goal is to look at the full picture and build a plan that helps people feel stronger, clearer, and more like themselves again. That matters to the woman who has been told her exhaustion, sleep changes, and hormone shifts are simply part of getting older. It matters to the man whose energy, confidence, and vitality are no longer where they used to be. And it matters to families who want a higher level of care close to home. What sets Revitalize apart is that the work does not stop at identifying the problem. Patients are given guidance, structure, education, and support. They are not sent home with a few disconnected recommendations and left to figure it out on their own. They are shown how hormones, metabolism, gut health, sleep, fitness, nutrition, and sexual health often influence one another, and what it looks like to rebuild from the inside out. That same philosophy is the foundation of my book, You’re Not Broken—You’re Unbalanced, written for the people who know something is off even when they have been told everything looks normal. It is also the reason I created the Rebuild Metabolic Health Institute, which takes this message beyond the clinic and into the community. Through its Unbalanced to Unbroken program, men and women are given a structured, clinician-built path to improve sleep, energy, body composition, gut health, libido, mood, hormone balance, and long-term metabolic wellness in a guided, practical way. We also believe aesthetics belongs in the conversation. Looking better and feeling better often rise together, and confidence is never superficial when it changes the way someone moves through life. What we are building here is more than a clinic. It is a more complete standard of wellness for Houston County: thoughtful, personal, comprehensive, and long overdue. The kind of care people often expect to travel for is now rooted right here in their own community. Houston County has needed this. Now, it has it.

the discipline
behind the dance
T
Allie Nicholls is a dedicated young ballet dancer whose faith, hard work, and talent have earned her opportunities with some of the nation’s top ballet programs.
There is a kind of devotion that begins long before the curtain rises. It happens in the car on the way from school to rehearsal, while hair is being pulled back and dance clothes are being changed between one commitment and the next. It happens in the corrections repeated until they become muscle memory, in the tired evenings when homework still has to be finished, and in the decision to keep showing up because the work matters. For 14-year-old Allie Nicholls, ballet has become more than movement set to music. It has become a rhythm of life shaped by faith, family, focus, and a love for an art form that asks for almost everything and gives something beautiful in return. Her story with dance began early. When she was only two years old, she took her first class alongside her best friend, Jayda. Her mother expected the familiar sweetness of a tiny costume, a first stage appearance, and a memory the family would enjoy for years. Instead, the recital became dramatic enough that her family still laughs about it, remembering how strongly she resisted stepping onto the stage. For a while, dance was placed on hold. Yet some gifts have a way of returning when the time is right, and by the time she was around eight years old, she began asking to try again.
Summer classes at Precision Ballet in Warner Robins became the turning point. What began as a simple return quickly grew into a passion she was willing to pursue with uncommon commitment. She moved from recreational classes to competition opportunities, then eventually into Precision Ballet Company, the studio’s preprofessional program. Her progression was quick because she practiced at home, paid attention in class, pushed herself to improve, and showed the kind of internal drive that had been part of her personality for years. That drive has always reached beyond dance. From a very young age, she has been unusually responsible and self-motivated. She was packing her own suitcase at three or four years old. In many ways, that little detail says a great deal about who she is. She notices what needs to be done, takes ownership of it, and usually has a plan before anyone else has fully caught up. She is organized and determined, but she is also funny, expressive, and full of personality. Her weekly schedule requires that blend of energy and maturity. After school, she often heads straight to class, changing clothes and getting ready on the way. She dances four to five hours a day, five days a week, while also managing the

Long before anyone knows where ballet may take her, Allie Nicholls has already shown the kind of perseverance that gives a dream room to become reality. She is a young dancer with uncommon drive, a family cheering her on, a studio shaping her path, and a goal that has already carried her from Warner Robins to one of the nation’s respected ballet programs.
academic responsibilities of a gifted program. Even on days when company dancers are usually off, she often chooses additional time in the studio. She attends classes with younger academy students, both to sharpen her own skills and to encourage the dancers coming up behind her. That example matters because she remembers what it felt like to watch older dancers with admiration. One of the people who influenced her most was Lily Postle, a former Precision Ballet dancer who later became a trainee with a company. The young dancer admired Lily’s artistry, but she also remembered her kindness, especially the way she helped younger girls. Now that she has become one of the older dancers in the room, she wants to carry that same generosity forward. She understands that younger students are watching more than steps. They are watching attitude, work ethic, humility, and the way a dancer treats others when the music stops. Her commitment has also connected her to causes beyond performance. Through Precision Ballet, she has participated in fundraising efforts for childhood cancer, including work connected to Dancers for Hope. For her, dance is a place to train and perform, as well as a way to contribute, support others, and take part in something larger than herself. At home, dance remains part of the family rhythm. Between homework, rehearsals, and regular life, she still makes time to stretch, strengthen her feet, work on choreography, and practice her solos. Like many dancers with a big goal and a living room nearby, she has given her family plenty of private performances over the years, inviting them to watch whatever skill, step, or piece of choreography she was working to perfect.

Ballet remains her first love, an art form that requires strength, precision, patience, and grace. At Precision Ballet, under the direction of Brooklyn Rogers, those qualities are central to the way students are developed. Her family originally chose the studio because it was close to home, but what they found was far more significant than convenience. Precision Ballet has given her access to high-level instruction right here in Warner Robins, something her family recognizes as rare and valuable in a smaller community. The studio’s emphasis on clean technique and disciplined growth has helped shape her into a dancer who feels ready to enter larger ballet spaces. That foundation became especially clear in January 2025, when she auditioned for several major summer intensives. The goal was to see where she stood in the broader ballet world, and the outcome gave her a remarkable answer. She was accepted into every program she auditioned for, including American Ballet Theatre, School of American Ballet, Houston Ballet, and others. She also received a scholarship offer from Nashville Ballet. After considering her options, she chose Houston Ballet, where she spent five weeks last summer. For a young dancer from Warner Robins, Houston Ballet widened her vision. It gave her a clearer picture of what advanced instruction looks like beyond the familiarity of home, and it helped her imagine what her future could become. The experience challenged her, stretched her, and confirmed that the foundation she has received at Precision Ballet has prepared her to step into demanding environments with confidence. Her aspirations continue to reach toward major ballet spaces. If she could spend a week with any company, she would choose Princess Grace Academy or American Ballet Theatre because of the level of excellence they represent and because she can picture those kinds of opportunities as part of her future. Yet when she watches elite dancers, she pays attention to more than their form. She notices the emotion and passion they bring to the stage. For her, dance is storytelling. It is artistry. It is the ability to make an audience feel what the dancer is communicating through movement. That artistic maturity shows in the ballets that have captured her imagination. She especially loves La Bayadère because of its emotional, dramatic, and romantic qualities. Recently, she added Nikiya from that ballet to her repertoire, a role she enjoys because it requires a more mature level of expression. She is also currently competing with Hometown Living At Its Best
51
Coppélia, another ballet that holds a special place for her. These roles have given her opportunities to grow as both a technician and a performer, learning how to communicate character, feeling, and story. From the audience, ballet can look effortless. The music begins, the dancer moves, and beauty seems to appear naturally. Behind that beauty is a demanding world most people never see. There are long hours, sore muscles, repeated corrections, and the constant pursuit of cleaner lines, stronger control, and greater expression. Even on stage, her mind is active. She thinks through her corrections and focuses on bringing the most out of her performance. Her attention to detail shows a dancer who understands that excellence is built through repetition, adjustment, and care. The physical requirements are real, too. Long rehearsal days bring fatigue, and she has learned that caring for her body means getting enough rest. She tries to sleep well, recover when she can, and push through difficult days with resilience. Even the pointe shoes tell part of the story. To those outside the ballet world, they may simply look beautiful, but experienced dancers know how quickly they can wear

down. Depending on the schedule, a pair may last only a week or two. Ballet asks a lot physically, emotionally, mentally, financially, and artistically, but for this young performer, the effort is connected to purpose. Her faith helps anchor that purpose. Her favorite Scripture is Philippians 4:13, which reminds her that she can do all things through Christ who strengthens her. The verse holds personal meaning because it was the first Scripture she learned at three years old. Years later, those words continue to follow her into rehearsals, auditions, performances, and new opportunities. That faith is also part of her life beyond dance, including her involvement with Harvest Church, where the same values of commitment, humility, and service continue to shape the person she is becoming. Over the past couple of years, she has grown in more than technique. She has continued to mature in the way she handles pressure, expectations, and the high standards she often sets for herself. Like many highly motivated people, she can be hard on herself, but she is learning that excellence also requires patience, perspective, and grace for the process. Ballet has a way of teaching those lessons. It asks for strength and softness, control and expression, endurance and emotional honesty. It teaches a dancer how to begin again after correction, how to keep working when progress feels slow, and how to bring feeling into structure. For now, she will keep doing what dancers do: go to school, finish her homework, pull her hair back, lace up her shoes, step into class, and begin again. Behind every graceful performance is a dancer who decided, long before the curtain opened, that the work was worth it. HCL

A Little Mad, A Lot Delicious The Mad Hatter Cafe & Confections combines whimsical charm, homemade food, and family hospitality to create a memorable dining experience in Warner Robins.
T
There is something wonderfully memorable about choosing a restaurant for the experience. A place where families linger over breakfast, friends laugh around the table, kids carefully study the bakery case like it holds buried treasure, and everyone gets to enjoy food worth talking about long after the plates are cleared. The best meals do more than satisfy hunger. They create moments, start conversations, and turn an ordinary outing into part of the family story. That is the feeling The Mad Hatter Cafe & Confections is creating in Warner Robins. A good meal has a way of drawing people together, giving them something to savor in the moment and something to talk about later. That sense of connection is woven throughout Mad Hatter, where color, creativity, sweet treats, and a flavorful menu come together to create a place that feels lively, welcoming, and full of character. Behind the whimsical name is a family whose love for food runs deep, a family that truly understands what it means to be mad about food. For the Saunders family, food has always been part of the adventure. Their years of travel, shaped in part by military life, gave them the chance to experience new places through local restaurants, bakeries, and meals that became part of the journey. Somewhere along the way, their love for good food and shared meals became a vision for a cafe where others could enjoy that same sense of delight.
The dream began the way many meaningful family dreams do, through conversation, imagination, and a shared love for what could be. Stephanie, along with her daughters Drake and Sage, had talked through plenty of ideas over the years, but when Drake suggested The Mad Hatter Cafe & Confections, the name seemed to carry the exact kind of charm they wanted. It nodded to the Victorian phrase mad as a hatter while capturing the heart of their family’s story: they were mad about food and wanted to create a place where that joy could be shared with others. The Saunders family’s connection to the building began years before the first pastries filled the case. During their time near Robins Air Force Base, Stephanie, Drake, and Sage often passed the space and imagined what it could become: a cafe filled with color, warmth, charm, and food that made the whole place feel alive. When the building later became available, the opportunity moved quickly, and the place they had once admired from the road turned into the home of a dream shaped by imagination, hard work, hospitality, and a deep love for creating a place people would want to return to. Step inside, and the character of the place greets you before the first bite. Color, charm, and a touch of Wonderland-inspired fun give the space its playful feel, while the heart of the cafe remains rooted in the Saunders family’s own love for food, hospitality, and creative details. Hometown Living At Its Best

When you visit, let the bakery case have the first word. It draws you in with pastries and confections that look ready for a tea party, carrying just enough Wonderland-inspired charm to make the visit fun before the first bite. The desserts are made in-house, many shaped by family recipes, Southern inspiration, and a serious appreciation for quality ingredients. Be sure to try one of the owner’s favorites, like the cookie butter chocolate cake, the Queen of Hearts red velvet bundt cake filled with Oreos and topped with cream cheese frosting, or the shortbread butter sandwich cookies that seem to disappear a little too easily. One of the cafe’s most distinctive creations is the Victorian Ladies, a macaron-style confection created by Drake after years of perfecting her recipe. With a ruffled filling inspired by Victorian skirts, the dessert

fits beautifully with the cafe’s character: elegant, fun, and full of flair. The pastry case also features real eclairs made from choux pastry and cream puffs filled with a chef-created coffee cream. If you are stopping in for coffee, conversation, and a treat to start the day, be sure to make it in time for the popular scones. They are known to sell out by midday, which says plenty about their growing reputation at Mad Hatter. Craving breakfast with a little personality? Start with the biscuits. The cafe opens at 7:30 a.m., with Sage and Savannah helping bring fresh biscuits into the morning routine while Caleb, the chef, adds his own creativity to the kitchen through recipes that are fresh, flavorful, and full of flair. Breakfast is served all day, which means the biscuits are always a good idea, especially the hot honey biscuit with its house-made hot honey and subtle peach note. It brings together
Southern comfort, sweetness, and heat in a way that makes it one of the cafe’s signature flavors. For guests on the go, online breakfast orders are available from 7:30 to 10:00 a.m., making it easy to grab a little Mad Hatter flavor before the day gets moving. Once breakfast has had its moment, lunch steps in with plenty of appeal of its own. Whether you come in craving something sweet, savory, or just a little spicy, lunch at Mad Hatter has a way of leaving you already thinking about what you want to try next. The sweet and spicy chicken sandwich is a great place to start, with breaded chicken baked to a crisp finish and layered with bold flavor. The Mediterranean sandwich brings a brighter bite, featuring Caleb’s basil pesto recipe with grilled chicken and feta, while the brisket bratwurst with IPA mustard rounds out the lunch menu with hearty, European-inspired flavor. The cafe also takes a thoughtful approach to ingredients, giving guests comfort food with a lighter touch. Turkey bacon is used throughout, and the kitchen leans into baked, grilled, and carefully prepared options that bring plenty of flavor to the table. That attention to detail makes the menu welcoming for guests with a variety of dietary preferences while keeping each dish hearty, creative, and thoughtfully made.

For now, the family is focused on growing in ways that preserve what makes Mad Hatter special. The cafe is intentionally personal, and that personal touch is part of its appeal. Every detail, from the names of the desserts to the fresh biscuits to the fizzes, helps create a place with a little sparkle, a lot of flavor, and plenty of reasons to come back.
Of course, a cafe this full of character needs drinks that can hold their own. Mad Hatter keeps the fun going with its fizzes, colorful Italian sodas with creative names and rotating flavors. They add a little sparkle to the menu and give guests something bright and refreshing to enjoy alongside breakfast, lunch, or a trip through the bakery case. Kids can pick a flavor that feels fun, and adults have every reason to order one for themselves, too. At a place built around food, family, and a little unexpected charm, even the drinks get to be part of the visit. For all the attention the menu deserves, Mad Hatter is also deeply shaped by the people behind it. Stephanie, along with her daughters Drake and Sage, has built the cafe with a sense of family that reaches beyond the kitchen. With Savannah bringing her gift for baking and Caleb adding his creativity as chef, the team has created a place where hard work, hospitality, and a genuine love for people show up in both the food and the welcome. That sense of purpose begins before the doors open. Each day, the team starts together in prayer, a rhythm that keeps them grounded, focused, and connected to the heart of the work. In the middle of fresh biscuits, bakery cases, breakfast orders, and lunch prep, that daily pause has become part of what steadies the cafe and reminds the team why the details matter. That kind of welcome has helped Mad Hatter become more than a stop for breakfast, lunch, or something sweet from the case. Regulars come in for coffee, scones, breakfast biscuits, and easy conversation, while families from nearby neighborhoods have begun making the cafe part of their routine. Military families and travelers have found their way in as well, bringing new faces through the door and adding to the growing community around the cafe. That community-centered heart shows up in simple but meaningful ways, including free coffee for seniors, first responders, and military members. It also shows up in the kids who know exactly what treat they want, the guests who return for the same

order, and the families who come back because the place feels warm, colorful, and personal. At Mad Hatter, the food may draw people in first, but the welcome gives them plenty of reason to return. When asked about the future of Mad Hatter, the Saunders family approaches it with excitement and careful intention. Growth is certainly part of the vision, but they want it to unfold in a way that preserves the charm, quality, and personal feel guests have come to enjoy. Catering may become part of the cafe’s offerings, especially with desserts and pastries that would bring a touch of Mad Hatter magic to weddings, showers, parties, and community gatherings. A Victorian-style patio is also part of the dream, creating more seating and adding another beautiful layer to the cafe’s inviting atmosphere.
So the next time you are looking for breakfast with a little personality, lunch with plenty of flavor, or a bakery case that makes decision-making wonderfully difficult, let Mad Hatter be your stop. Come for the biscuits, the scones, the fizzes, the sandwiches, or the pastries that look ready for their own tea party. Stay for the color, the care, the conversation, and the feeling that someone put thought into every detail. At Mad Hatter, being mad about food is part of the fun. After one visit, you may find yourself planning what to try next before you even make it back to the car. HCL

A BRIGHTER Way to Begin
The Hive Nutrition combines nutritious drinks, genuine hospitality, and a welcoming community atmosphere to help every customer start their day with energy and connection. 72

There is something especially delightful
about beginning the day with a pop of color, a warm conversation, and a refreshing drink made precisely the way you like it. Each morning at The Hive Nutrition, the blenders begin to hum with excitement as familiar faces stop in for their usual drinks. For some, the decision was made before they ever walked through the door; for others, discovering a new favorite is part of the fun. The day is easier to meet when it begins somewhere that already feels glad to see you. The energy at The Hive starts building long before the first order reaches the counter. Jewel Martinez and her team have gathered everything they need so that by the time the first person arrives, the room is ready, and their attention can turn fully toward making each visit feel personal. From remembering someone’s go-to drink to helping another person explore the menu, the care behind the counter is just as important as what goes into the cup. From the first morning order to the final afternoon visit, no two hours at The Hive feel quite the same. The early hours may bring a teacher on the way to the classroom for a productive day of learning or a nurse picking up something refreshing before a purposeful day caring for patients. By afternoon, someone heading home might share a laugh with a friendly neighbor stopping in before the gym. Together, these everyday visits give The Hive its welcoming personality. While some customers stop in for a quick visit before continuing with their plans, others find a reason to stay a little longer. Guests can connect to the complimentary Wi-Fi as they

in and around Perry. “I’ve always enjoyed singing,” Vance said. “My dad was a deejay. Music was always around. I listened to R&B (rhythm and blues) singers.” Vance performed in the chorus in first grade and had the lead part in a Christmas play. Instead of being confident over his early success, however, he battled stage fright. Nevertheless, Vance continued to sing in school until reaching puberty and going through a voice change. The added scrutiny was too much to deal with for someone already hesitant to perform in front of an audience. He dropped out of singing and decided to focus on athletics. Vance grew up playing football and basketball and dreamed of competing professionally in the latter sport. “I had a good outside shot and could play defense,” Vance recalled. Through playing the FIFA video game, Vance also developed a love for soccer and made the middle school team. He said he was fast and collected assists by getting the ball to the guys who could score.

We’re trying to get him back here.” When he started to pursue a musical career, Vance, despite attracting a local following, discovered his moonlighting didn’t pay the bills. He continued transportation work at Houston Medical Center. Vance’s occasional singing on the job attracted the attention of patients and staff, who told him to “pull the trigger” and pursue his passion of music. In 2022, Vance heeded their advice and left the hospital. Through the owner of a local tree company, he recorded three original country songs and posted them on various streaming platforms. That led to opening up for five acts. Vance continues to post videos and perform locally, waiting for the break that could turn him into a country music star. “It’s about who you know,” said Vance, who performs with various Nashville artists as a contract singer.

Premier South Electrical offers superior service to propel your home or commercial space into the optimal expanse it was created to be. Owners Matthew Guillory and Justin Peacock started Premier South Electrical in 2022 with great aspirations for the impact their work could have on the community. The pair met working alongside one another in 2014 at a company where they spent five years building a foundation of what would later become their own great business partnership. Over time, Matthew and Justin sharpened their craft and pursued other electrical opportunities before teaming up to go into business. “We wanted a company where we would treat our employees in the field the way we always wish we had been treated,” Matthew says. “In committing to this, we provide our employees with insurance, pensions, and above-average wages.” For our customers, we work tirelessly to provide a seamless experience that far surpasses their expectations. We pride ourselves on speedy response times and efficient work, all conducted in a timely manner. We offer electrical service work, home additions, new construction, remodeling, and repair. We run a team with four additional electricians who are highly trained and skilled in the field. “Whether it be a home, commercial building, or industrial, there’s really nothing out there that we can’t do between the two of us,” Justin says. “If it has a wire going to it, we can do it.” We hold ourselves to a higher standard than other companies to ensure our customers’ satisfaction. “You’re going to get quality work,” Matthew says. “And if there’s an issue with it or something went wrong, we’re back to fix it without charge. If it was on us, we’ll always make it right.” We offer the community honest service, reliability, and outstanding professionalism they can count on.

A Teacher’s Mission to Paint a Happier Community For many educators, the end of the school day means grading papers, planning lessons, and finally unwinding. But for Lychele Allen, a dedicated teacher in Dublin City Schools, the dismissal bell often signals the start of her second act as the vibrant entrepreneur behind LA Paint Party. What began as a personal desire to start painting during the summers, (something that Lychelle had been prompting herself to do for several years) turned into a personal mission to inject joy and camaraderie back into her highstress profession. Lychele recalls observing her colleagues during very challenging times as budget cuts and school system financial deficits

hit the news media, as a colleague and friend suddenly passed after leaving work in a traffic accident and and after the loss of a student, Lychele shares that at the time, she herself felt very down and defeated too, so much negativity, uncertainty and continuous bad news being reported. She shares that she knew something had to be done, and recalls that as she prayed for God to provide some sort of respite in these trying times and that the Lord very clearly responded to her prayer by prompting her to paint. Praying for God to provide and then being obedient to the calling placed on her heart and mind has blossomed LA Paint Party

into a thriving local business that’s helping teachers and community members alike find connection, relaxation, and a little splash of color. Lychele started the LA Paint Party business not necessarily for profit, but out of necessity. Witnessing the rising burnout and flagging morale among her colleagues, she sought a creative, low-stakes way for them to de-stress. “Teaching is incredibly rewarding, but it can also be exhausting,” Lychelle explains. “I saw how much my fellow teachers were struggling and needed an outlet - something fun, creative, and completely separate from schoolwork. A paint party seemed like the perfect prescription for a mental health boost.” The first few events were modest gatherings, hosted after hours for her school staff. The response was immediate and overwhelmingly positive. Teachers who rarely interacted outside of professional development sessions were suddenly laughing, sharing stories, and bonding over brushes and canvases. The simple act of creating something beautiful, without the pressure of a performance review or standardized test, proved to be a powerful tonic.Lychele recalls a paint party held for breast cancer awareness in October in which she made an impromptu decision based on yet another “Godly nudge” to gift the parties proceeds to the cancer survivors of the group and a very heartfelt conversation with one of them as a result of her decision to gift the proceeds. These kinds of “ah ha” moments continue to present themselves as Lychele makes it a point to tie the theme of the parties to biblical scriptures and seeks to be a positive influence in the lives of others and bring vibrance and color into others lives - literally and metaphorically. Word quickly spread beyond the faculty lounge. Neighbors, local church groups, and businesses began inquiring about booking a party. Lychele soon realized her passion project had a much wider appeal. LA Paint Party now offers mobile events Art helps one express themselves with a true sense of value and worth. There’s no doubt that what began as an idle nudge to “paint in the summer” has grown into something far greater, with the profits being more than just monetary; as Lychele shares that much like teaching her students and watching them make a learning connection in the classroom, there’s no greater feeling than standing beside someone and watching them have their own “ah ha” moment, where blind trust turns into a beautiful masterpiece. Hometown Living At Its Best 103

for birthdays, team-building exercises, and ‘just because’ gatherings across the county, providing all the supplies and guidance needed for even the most hesitant beginner to leave with a masterpiece. “It’s not just about the painting; it’s about the connection,” says Allen. “In a world that’s constantly demanding our attention, LA Paint Party gives people permission to slow down, be present, and create a positive memory together. I’m still teaching, just in a different way now—I’m teaching people how to give themselves a break and find joy in the process.” Lychele shares that she sees others reconnecting and rediscovering their child-like creativity as painting provides a freedom of one’s own unique expression of themselves. When asked what the biggest challenge in pursuing this business endeavor has been, Lychele shares that switching gears from her leadership role as an educator and teacher to the role of service in providing a comfortable shared space that allows others to freely express themselves has been challenging and humbling, as it reminds her to step back from “calling the shots” to letting God lead others through their own creativity and expression. As for the biggest blessings that have come from building this business, those are bountiful, as Lychele shares about how her relationship
with her daughters and business partners, Tiffany and Alliyah, has strengthened and grown closer, and how she hopes that LA Paint Party will be a legacy that she can pass along through her daughters. Additionally, Lychele shares that what began as building a business has grown into building a business of ministry that allows others to put life on pause and take time for themselves, to focus on the fun of creativity, and in doing so, often helps them strengthen themselves mentally, spiritually and emotionally. To date, LA Paint Party has hosted a variety of parties ranging from birthday parties to specific events such as breast cancer awareness, women’s empowerment, hosting a group of middle school girls to being in attendance at a local Art walk in Dodge County. Lychele shares that she looks forward to seeing what the future holds; she hopes to see LA Paint Party grow beyond the painting and join forces with local community theaters assisting in set designs. She hopes that the legacy of her business will be one that inspires others not to let their dreams be deferred. She encourages others to view life similarly to that empty canvas that one begins with at the onset of the paint party, and know that just as their painting is uniquely created by them,so is one’s life. Mistakes will be made, imperfections will occur, but through it all, a one of a kind masterpiece will be the final outcome. Speaking of masterpieces, Lychele has two specific pieces of art that she is particularly fond of. One is a painting of a Tiger with blue eyes that reminds her that she is fearfully and wonderfully made, and the other is a pencil portrait that holds great detail

and her own personal tale of self motivation and perseverance that she loves to share with others when they see the portrait for the first time themselves. Lychele shares how art allows us to express and speak about the more difficult topics of culture and ethnicity and yet find the commonalities and/or beauty in the bigger picture of it all. Art helps one express themselves with a true sense of value and worth. LA Paint Party thrives on helping community members find connection, relaxation, and a little splash of color. Taryn Werner’s Journey as a Single Mother and Mental Health Leader.
T
Taryn Werner is a testament to resilience, showing how a singular heart for people can transform a life and an entire community. Taryn was born with an immature macula, leaving her legally blind without the ability for correction. At the young age of 18, she became a mother. Believing she had very little to offer her children, she felt it was imperative that if she had expectations of them and their future, she would have to be the one to set the example for them. Taryn’s
fortitude, passion, and resilience are seen throughout her journey as she did not allow being visually impaired nor being a single mother of two to detour her from pursuing her career goals or guiding her children to understand that physical limitations are not preventative to achieving their goals. Taryn has always been a whirlwind of creative energy with a servant’s heart. When her son was just 2 years old, she began college seeking a behavioral science degree. She

Today, Taryn is beyond grateful for the journey that led her here. As the clinical director, she keeps the business grounded, organized, and ethically airtight. By allowing her vision to guide her, she created a space where hundreds of individuals have learned how to heal, simply because she decided that making people feel seen was a mission worth dedicating her life to.

carried on to her bachelor’s degree in pursuit of becoming a public servant; being a voice and advocate for the voiceless or those who felt unsure or overwhelmed or unable to advocate for themselves. Taryn had a passion for helping people find resources like she had to due to her own circumstances. While completing her master’s degree, she made sure she had the resources to get to and from Savannah for classes every single weekend, as she has never been able to drive a car. Taryn spent several years of working in community mental health services going to and from client’s homes, paying a driver half, if not more, of her wages, just to make sure her clients were receiving compassionate care. Through all of this, she became a psychotherapist, licensed through the state of Ga as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. While Taryn’s physical limitations may be impaired, her passion and drive to serve others to the best of her ability is fully functional. As is her unique ability to utilize her many learned skills sets along the way to reach clients and make a positive impact on their vision of themselves. After obtaining her associates degree in behavioral science, she carried on to her bachelor’s degree, during which time Taryn continued to lean into her heart’s desire to serve the general public, being a voice and advocate for those without a voice or those
who felt unsure or overwhelmed or unable to advocate for themselves. Taryn had a passion for helping find resources for others who had their own barriers, all while in pursuit of completing her masters degree and becoming a licensed clinical social worker. While Taryn’s physical vision may be impaired, her passion and drive to serve others to the best of her ability is fully functional. As is her unique ability to utilize her many learned skill sets along the way to reach clients and make a positive impact on their vision of themselves. The dream and goal to build her own practice was Taryn’s driving mission, leading her to develop a “treatment plan” that became the business plan for Werner Behavioral Health. In July of 2023, Taryn set up the independent practice as she exited from another practice and opened the doors of Werner Behavioral Health with her daughter, Layne Asbell, assisting
with the office and clerical duties. Her dear friend Melinda Schroeder graciously volunteered her time and efforts to ensure a smooth and seamless opening. Melinda later stepped into the role of office manager in December of the same year, a position that she held until March of this year when she stepped back in order to focus on her family and enjoy her well deserved retirement as a teacher from Houston County School System. As a licensed therapist, Taryn brings a unique blend of art and science to her clinical work. Taryn’s Approach: Deeply intuitive, utilizing psychodynamic theory, mindfulness, and expressive arts. She excels at helping clients sit with their grief, explore their family systems origins, their trauma etc. through metaphor, and develop coping strategies through creative and impactful interventions.

The core mission of her practice is non-negotiable: To love God and to love people; to serve God, and serve people. Taryn seeks to serve others in such a way that they feel deeply seen, heard, and valued through treatment that is catered specifically to their unique needs and goals. This unique philosophy offers something incredibly rare in the mental health field: a truly holistic, adaptive approach to wellness. After years of working in the community via various community service organizations and volunteering with several projects and collaborating with other community mental health agencies and larger clinics, Taryn noticed a troubling trend. The modern mental healthcare system often felt like an assembly line. Therapists were overloaded with paperwork, and clients were frequently subjected to rigid, one-size-fits-all treatment plans designed more for insurance compliance
than actual human transformation. This has inspired her to assure that the mission of her practice stands out among the rest. The core mission of her practice is nonnegotiable: To love God and to love people; to serve God, and serve people. Taryn seeks to serve others in such a way that they feel deeply seen, heard, and valued through treatment that is catered specifically to their unique needs and goals. Walk into the office today, and you won’t find a sterile, clinical waiting room. You will find a space designed by Taryn—filled with soft textures, warm lighting, and grounding art—and organized with seamless, calming efficiency. Her practice rejects the “modality first, person second” mentality. Instead, Taryn practices true client-centered care. 1. FEELING SEEN Many clients arrive with a history of being dismissed—by family, society, or even previous healthcare providers. Taryn and each of her staff members practice radical presence. They limit their active caseloads strictly to ensure that when a client is in the room, they have the therapist’s absolute, unhurried attention. 2. FEELING HEARD In the practice, the client is recognized as the ultimate expert on their own life. If a client responds well to logic, structure,

and homework, Taryn designs a clear, objective framework for their growth. If a client needs to process deep-seeded emotional wounds through narrative storytelling or somatic experiencing, she guides them through that fluid terrain. 3. FEELING VALUED Treatment plans are never pulled from a template. Every goal is co-created with the client. Taryn and her staff celebrate the small victories—the boundary set at work, the morning a client woke up without a racing heart—
ensuring that every individual recognizes their own inherent worth. Taryn will tell you that her team is the backbone of the business’s success today; this team consists of the following individuals: Naomi Lumpkin who was promoted to the role of office manager and has been invaluable to the practice with her dedication and organization in running a practice that has grown far beyond Taryn’s wildest dreams. Melinda Schroeder who again has demonstrated her loyalty by staying on as part time in Administrative services, Amber Hometown Living At Its Best

Bruchak has recently been hired on as administrative assistant while continuing in her role as intern, Amber’s intern cohort also includes Jamir Stewart, Stephanie Gray, Cora Diaz who’s curiosity and passion for learning is everyday that they step through the doors. Werner Behavioral Health also boasts a phenomenal group of clinicians who are continuing to build a strong positive reputation for themselves in the community; Jamie Broussard with her bubbling presence and wealth of resources, Karen Loyd with her warmth and compassion, Shelly Gunter with her quiet strength and calming presence all bring a variety of approaches to counseling that help make Werner Behavioral a diverse and inclusive counseling agency. The final very important piece of the Werner Behavioral team is Kristie Nelson of Lighthouse Billing, instrumental in her role as billing specialist in keeping the agency running smoothly. Werner Behavioral Health would not function as positively and successfully as it does today without this incredible team of people. Today, Taryn is beyond grateful for the journey that led her here. THE LIGHT BEHIND
BEAUTIFUL LIVING Luther and Sharon Brown have built Bonaire Lighting Solutions into a trusted community resource by combining technical expertise, thoughtful design, and personalized service to help homeowners create beautiful, functional spaces.
O
On any given day, the showroom at Bonaire Lighting Solutions feels less like a retail space and more like a gathering place. Neighbors arrive with floor plans tucked under their arms, photos saved on their phones, or simply a sense that something in their home is not quite finished yet. They are greeted not with sales pressure, but with conversation, guidance, and a calm confidence that the details will come together. That atmosphere reflects the people who created it. Luther and Sharon Brown built Bonaire Lighting Solutions with a shared vision of serving their community through both expertise and genuine care. Rather than approaching lighting as a product alone, they see it as an essential part of how people experience their homes every day. Both bring substantial professional experience to the business, shaped by very different paths that now complement one
126

another seamlessly. Luther’s background includes more than two decades of service in the United States Air Force, where leadership, precision, and responsibility were daily expectations. Since co-founding the company, he has devoted himself to mastering the technical side of the lighting industry. Through hands-on work with homeowners, builders, and designers, he has developed deep knowledge of product performance, placement, safety considerations, and long-term durability. His ability to translate complex technical details into practical guidance helps clients feel confident that their choices will function as beautifully as they look. Sharon’s career spans more than twenty years of senior executive leadership in corporate management and retail operations across both the medical equipment and lighting fields. She has directed complex organizations, managed

large teams, and overseen multiple high-end showroom environments. Her professional background informs every aspect of the customer experience, from product selection to store design to the careful pacing of consultations. Her strength lies in listening closely, understanding how clients live in their spaces, and shaping cohesive solutions that balance style, function, and comfort. Together, they operate as true partners, combining technical expertise with design sensibility, strategic leadership with personal attentiveness. Each decision reflects that balance, ensuring that projects succeed not only on paper but in everyday use. When they opened their current showroom in 2022, their goal extended beyond creating a place to purchase fixtures. They envisioned a space where customers could slow down, see lighting installed in realistic settings, and make informed decisions without feeling rushed. In an era dominated by online shopping, the Browns believe lighting still needs to be experienced in person. The way light spreads across a room, interacts with surfaces, and changes throughout the day cannot be fully captured on a screen.
Hometown Living At Its Best
129
Visitors walking through the showroom encounter displays designed to resemble real homes rather than store shelves. Kitchen lighting demonstrates both task visibility and ambient warmth. Dining areas glow softly overhead, suggesting evenings spent gathered around the table. Outdoor fixtures hint at peaceful nights on porches and patios. Each setting invites customers to imagine their own lives unfolding in similar spaces. The process often begins with a conversation. Some clients arrive with detailed construction plans and precise specifications. Others come with only a general sense that their space needs improvement. Both approaches are welcomed equally. Careful listening allows the team to understand priorities, whether those involve aesthetics, functionality, budget, efficiency, or long-term maintenance.
130

Across Houston County and beyond, the lights they help place continue to glow night after night, illuminating everyday moments that quietly become the memories people carry forward. In that way, their work extends far beyond fixtures and wiring, becoming part of the living story of the community itself.
Lighting decisions carry significant influence throughout a home. During new construction, they affect electrical planning, room layout, and future flexibility. During renovations, thoughtful upgrades can dramatically change the mood and usefulness of existing spaces. Even small adjustments in brightness, placement, or scale can transform how a room is experienced. Over time, many projects evolve into lasting relationships. Clients return for additional rooms, future homes, or seasonal updates. They bring family members, friends, and neighbors who have heard about their experience. In a close-knit community, reputation grows through personal connections, and the Browns have built theirs on consistency, patience, and reliability. The team that supports them contributes greatly to that reputation. The showroom environment reflects a shared commitment to professionalism, kindness, and integrity. Guests

are welcomed warmly, questions are encouraged, and each project receives thoughtful attention regardless of size or complexity. At its core, Bonaire Lighting Solutions is grounded in a simple understanding of home life. The moments that matter most often unfold under carefully chosen light. Early mornings in the kitchen, late-night conversations in the living room, celebrations around the dining table, quiet routines at the end of a long day — all are shaped by the atmosphere of the space. By helping customers select lighting that supports these experiences, Luther and Sharon play a quiet but meaningful role in the daily life of the community. Their work becomes part of holiday gatherings, family milestones, ordinary evenings, and the countless moments that turn houses into homes. Success for them is measured not only by completed projects but by the knowledge that their guidance has made life more comfortable and enjoyable for the people they serve. A well-lit

entryway that welcomes guests, a bedroom that encourages rest, a backyard that extends family time outdoors — these outcomes carry lasting value long after installation is complete. Visitors quickly recognize that the Luther and Sharon are not simply business owners. They are collaborators who approach each project with care, professionalism, and a genuine desire to help people create spaces that feel right for their lives. Their partnership, shaped by complementary experience and shared purpose, has made Bonaire Lighting Solutions a trusted resource throughout Middle Georgia. Across Houston County and beyond, the lights they help place continue to glow night after night, illuminating everyday moments that quietly become the memories people carry forward. In that way, their work extends far beyond fixtures and wiring, becoming part of the living story of the community itself. HCL

Beyond the Pain: The Advanced Chiropractic Care of Dr. Brian Gillis
D The Heart of Healing: Community, Compassion, and Chiropractic in Perry, GA
Dr. Brian Gillis is a true crusader of change, having held a deep conviction and stamina to be the kind of doctor that makes his patients feel good not just metaphorically but physically by identifying the root cause of the pain and then removing it. Dr. Gillis is a nationally recognized figure in chiropractic medicine and a pillar of the Perry, Georgia community. While Dr. Gillis’s educational and professional journey originated with the thought of pursuing med school and becoming a doctor. It was his earnest desire to get patients past the pain to find healing and whole wellness that led him on an intentional journey to treat individuals living with chronic back discomfort, neck strain, or the lingering aftermath of a traumatic physical injury. Dr. Gillis recognized that the path to a pain-free life was often overwhelming for patients, feeling like an arduous struggle that led many to lose hope and suffer in silence, merely managing symptoms instead of pursuing comprehensive healing and total wellness.

He began his formal education at Life University, graduating in 1995. Life University is renowned for its emphasis on vitalism; the philosophy that the body has an innate, self-healing capability when the nervous system is free from interference. He earned his national certification from the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners in 1995 and secured his official license to practice from the State of Georgia in 1996. He pursued comprehensive post-graduate studies, including advanced coursework at New York Chiropractic College in Chiropractic Adjunctive Physiotherapy. To provide evidence-based care for trauma victims, he undertook rigorous postgraduate studies at the prestigious Spine Research Institute of San Diego under Dr. Arthur Croft, a world-renowned authority on whiplash injuries. Additionally he completed advanced studies at New York Chiropractic College focused on the Diagnosis and Clinical Management of Cervical Acceleration/Deceleration Trauma and related temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. Dr. Gillis’s dedication has earned him recognition 154

He shares that he loves Jesus and strives to lead by example in life whether its discussing a treatment plan with a patient, training an associate, or showing up as father, he wants to live out his life in such a way that others remember their encounter with him no matter how big or small.
beyond Middle Georgia, including formal laudation by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) for his exceptional delivery of quality back pain care. This highlights his commitment to utilizing proven, evidence-based protocols that yield measurable, positive patient outcomes. His unique approach combines advanced post-graduate trauma specialization, gentle modern adjusting techniques, and a deep commitment to patient education. He firmly believes in a collaborative partnership with the patient, emphasizing that healing requires understanding and protection of the body during daily activities. To make this vital information accessible, Dr. Gillis co-authored the insightful

book, Neck Pain, Neck Pain—You Don’t Want It, You Don’t Need It. The book serves as a practical manual, equipping readers with actionable strategies, stretching routines, and preventative habits for everyday spinal health. Dr. Gillis customizes care to each patient’s needs, age, and comfort level, avoiding a “one-size-fits-all” approach. For patients hesitant about traditional manual adjustments, he is proficiencyrated in the Activator Methods Technique. This gentle, handheld instrument delivers a high-velocity, lowforce impulse to specific spinal joints, bypassing the body’s natural tendency to resist the adjustment, making it highly effective and comfortable for pediatric patients, seniors, and those with acute pain. Dr. Gillis is certified by the State of Georgia to utilize Electrical Therapeutic Modalities. While national awards validate his expertise, Dr. Gillis’s true passion is improving the lives of his neighbors. His practice is built on compassion, accessibility, and local care. He was nominated for business of the year, in June of 2010 and 2025. His positive local footprint was recognized in June 2010 when the Perry Chamber of Commerce honored his practice as the Business of the Month. He demonstrates that a highly sophisticated medical practice can still retain the warmth and approachability of a trusted family doctor. 156

shares that the successful must be willing to do what the unsuccessful won’t. He shares that it’s important to genuinely love what one does for a living and to not let fear impede one’s own persistence and dedication towards their goals. He is very candid in sharing that sacrifices have to be made for all, professionals and patients alike. Success, he maintains, requires a willingness to give up the things that impede progress or interfere with one’s natural ability to heal. For instance, a patient cannot recover optimal mobility if they are not committed to their prescribed therapeutic exercises, just as a doctor cannot offer quality care by taking shortcuts. He believes in leading by example in the manner in
which he cares for his own health and wellness, a character trait he hopes to pass along to many doctors going forward.
