My word of the week is empower. Going through school isn’t a solo journey; it’s a journey undertaken as a group - among friends, peers, and teachers who are there to support you. We inspire each other to work harder, whether it be through encouragement or friendly competition. And when we see admirable people around us, we want to be like them. Don’t tell me you’ve never seen a person and thought, “Wow, look at him/her. I wish I could be like that.” So you strive to be like him or her, building better characteristics, habits, and values so that you can be just as admirable. In ways like these, together, we are empowered. Our teachers empower us, we empower each other, we empower ourselves.

This is all part of our education.

I’m graduating from Charter this year. And although I’m only going to have been here 3 years compared to some of my friends who have been here since kindergarten, it doesn’t Michaela Guo mean Charter hasn’t empowered me hugely. I’ve learned from my friends, my rivals, my PCS Class of 2016 teachers, my peers...and I’ve definitely been empowered by them. So learn. Be inspired.
