UNCERTAIN WATERS AHEAD

BUT WITHAM GROUP STEERS A STEADY COURSE THEBOTTOMLINE

As our 105-year old business moves rapidly into the second quarter of 2026, all our plans which were forged between ourselves and our customers are in full swing. However, one conversation we could not have predicted, was the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, which is currently causing, what is considered to be “the largest disruption to global crude oil supply in history.” This situation has resulted in significant increases in crude oil prices, following refinery shutdowns and other enforced closures.

As a direct result, the lubricants industry as a whole is experiencing substantial supply chain disruption and cost inflation, exceeding that seen in many other sectors. These pressures include higher base oil costs, as it is derived

from crude oil, along with increased additive (technology) costs due to interruptions in feedstock availability and reduced component production. To put this in perspective, the cost of an oil tanker of base oil being delivered to us has risen in the past month by over 8590%. In addition, we have also experienced considerable rises in packaging costs, as the prices of plastics and steel continue to increase in line with higher energy and feedstock costs.

As one of the UK’s largest independent lubricant manufacturers, we remain well positioned to maintain the supply of our high-quality products for our existing customers, throughout this period of volatility. We are fortunate to have strong stock levels, and lasting relationships

with our suppliers and also forward contracts for product in place, to ensure we continue to provide all our customers with the highest quality products, dependable service, and consistent product availability, even within this highly volatile global market.

Previous to all the challenges and focusing on the future, we are spending even more time engaging with our customers, and work in the community, which you will all see within this Witham Oily Rag.

I know I have mentioned before that our business now regularly sends products to all parts of the UK and Ireland, North, South, East and West, and a customer base ranging from manufacturers of staircases and doors for the building industry using our WOCO Paints to our Qualube Lubricants offering protection to wire ropes used on cranes and winches on wind turbines out in the North Sea and further afield. It is staggering where our products are used, from more conventional Haulage Companies, Plant Operators, Royal Estates, Marine Supply Companies, Farms, AgriContractors, to unique Horse Studs where our Anti-Bacterial Paints are used to combat the spread of harmful diseases to the animals. It is fascinating to work with all of them, seeing the amazing skills and innovations our customers are working on and ensuring we offer the correct products for the correct application at all times.

As the shortage of some materials becomes more prevalent, we continue to inform our customers, both old and new about the importance of ensuring their lubricants carry an approved Candidate Data

Package. Without such approval, the product being offered will not have been tested in reallife scenarios, so it is very much buyer beware. All Qualube and Witham products are backed by our trusted technology providers with CDP on request. Another reason to reassure you that our products really do meet the highest of standards from the OEMs.

It has been a busy time with many visits to the Factory HQ at Lincoln, plus a number of other presentations being given nationally on all manner of subjects. I was proud to be

asked to be a headline speaker at the recent Woldmarsh Agricultural Buying Group Suppliers Conference, where over 300 suppliers, representing over 90% of their purchases, came to a Conference organised by Woldmarsh to hear all about their plans. My subject to speak about was our 50 year plus relationship we have had with Woldmarsh and how we started with our first order to now providing over 90% of their purchases for Lubricants. A remarkably interesting day with other key suppliers offering their knowledge to a fascinating business.

BY ROYAL APPOINTMENT

I am now halfway through my Presidential Year and part of this year, I hosted a weekend for all the Sandringham Association Members. With a lot of planning, and support from my wife Ali, we were honoured to host our weekend at Royal Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, with a full tour of the Estate in the daytime and a gala Banquet Dinner held in the Ballroom, by kind permission of His Royal Highness The King. It was a super special event, and one which will never ever be forgotten. I was proud to be able to talk about Witham Group and our Team, in between many other speakers, including the Land Agent for Sandringham, Mr Edward Parsons, and our longtime customer and friend David Wilson, of Earthtime Farming (ex: HRH Duchy Estate Farm Manager) who led a fascinating talk on sustainability, the environment and organic farming within the UK.

My Presidential Year of the Royal Warrant Holders Association of Sandringham, is super interesting and keeping me busy in equal measure.

I have been fortunate to attend several other Association events in my capacity, including other company tours and dinners in Edinburgh, Windsor, and London so far, meeting many other incredible businesses and personalities within the organisation.

I was also asked to represent our Association at a Tree Planting ceremony at HRH The King's private residence, Park House, Sandringham meeting the Head Gardener and his Team, and whilst there, selling them some Witham Prolan for their garden sheers and Qualube TFR to clean the green off the royal patio!!

NEVER TOO OLD TO LEARN

It is important to keep our minds open to all new things and keep on challenging ourselves to learn. As the great Henry Ford once said “Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young.”

Our teams at Lincoln and Soham have been taking part in some new training days and have many others planned this year, from Technical Lubricant Training to Paint & Colour Training along with other operational topics. It is great

to see our Team attend these courses to support and improve their knowledge in a variety of subjects.

Looking back, it was great to get the Witham Team, our suppliers, friends and supporters of our business together at our early 2026 Dinner Dance and charity fundraising event. Our fantastic Witham Group Team all assembled with their partners for a fine mixture of tasty food, drinks, games, plus lots of money being raised for our chosen charities. A big thank you once again to Ali and the Team who arranged and organised such an amazing evening, all based about the Witham Core Values we have held “From the Very Beginning” with a fun Prehistoric theme. Congratulations also to Team members, John Jones, Dave Lagden, Ali Bottom, and Chrissie Hallam for their incredible long service

awards. Collectively they have given 120 years of service to the Witham Group!

As we look towards the year ahead, I would like to thank you, our customers for all your continued support and in such a difficult and challenging time, please be assured we are here to support you and work together to help you with all your business needs. PROUD TO WELCOME RWHA PRESIDENT TO LINCOLN

It was a pleasure to welcome the National President of the Royal Warrant Holders Association, Mr Philip Coward, to Witham HQ recently. Philip met Witham MD, Nigel R Bottom, who is President of the Sandringham Royal Warrant Holders Association, and members of the Witham team as he toured the factory and learnt all about what we do and how we manufacture.

Philip’s own business is Hillbrush Ltd– the international manufacturer of natural brushes and cleaning equipment, which is based in Wiltshire and the USA, and who have held a Royal Warrant since 1981. Philip also went on to visit the two other Lincolnshire Royal Warrant companies; Agri-Cycle and British Hardwood Trees Ltd.

Philip was very interested in what he learnt and saw during his visit to Witham Group and sent us this very kind message:

LINCOLN FACTORY GETS A FRESH NEW LOOK

The Lincoln factory has been getting a well-deserved spruce up recently and huge thanks goes to the Lincoln factory team for their painting of the walls and floors. Not only has the factory had a lick of paint, we have also tidied up Nostalgia Corner in the factory, ready for our factory tours. Visitors can see all in one place our old 1950’s delivery van, packaging, and tanks as well as a trip down memory lane to the market sellers platform. Old Lincoln images are now on a backdrop adding a flavour of yesteryear.

A smart new range of informative signs have also been put up in the factory to help with visits and tours, explaining about our Blendtek lubricant blending technology and how it has helped us save both time and energy, improving our carbon footprint from source compared to other traditional blending methods. Additional factory signs depict our care of delivering quality and excellence all year round.

The Soham depot is officially ready for customers and the 2026 decorating and renovation season! Our latest Woco paint tins have officially rolled off the production line now, following on from our new Royal Warrant rebrand. While the look is fresh and modern, the quality of the paint inside remains exactly what you’ve come to expect.

Seeing the new design prompted us to look back at our paint packaging over the decades. As the timeline shows, Woco (which stands for Witham Oil Company) has gone through many iterations, and we are incredibly proud that this paint has been trusted by our customers for nearly a century. Woco was originally the old name for our lubricant brand until we started producing paint and was then used for the paint side of the business to make way for the new Qualube branding for all our lubricants and greases.

In the latest issue of Plant Planet, we published a deep-dive article: "Why Lubricants Matter More Than Ever." As the UK market changes, we are leading the conversation on how the right oils protect your heavy machinery and reduce downtime.

ENVIRONMENTAL NEWS

REVIEW OF 2025 ENVIRONMENTAL OBJECTIVES

Last year our business focused on energy savings and packaging waste, measuring water usage and improving the recycling elements of our processes. In addition, we set ourselves the goal of measuring the carbon footprints of all our manufactured products, as well as a new supply chain analysis, which aimed to collate and grade information about our own suppliers.

HERE IS ALL WE HAVE ACHIEVED SO FAR:

�� Cardboard Packaging now 87% recycled content with 13% coming from sustainably managed sources.

�� New Barn Paint Containers are now made from 100% recycled materials.

�� Fleet of Company Cars – now switched to hybrid or full electric.

�� Commercial Vehicle Fleet using HVO fuels.

�� Our new Reusable Pallet Wraps save 1.5kg of single use plastic wrap on every pallet we can using the Palband system. So far this year we have therefore saved over 234kg of single use plastic being used. Based on general industry metrics, reducing this amount of plastic has resulted in approximately 587kg of CO2 equivalent (CO2e) emissions being saved. This is also the same as 11,750 plastic bottles being saved.

�� Our Water Usage is now monitored on a Power BI dashboard and savings on our rainwater harvesting shows we have collected in the past 5 months alone over 11,000 litres of rainwater to use effectively for cleaning vehicles etc.

�� Ink, Print Cartridges and Label Use Reduction. Over the past year we have used over 500 less ink cartridges for our label printing. This has come about from the redesign of the back labels of our own Qualube range of products as well as those of our own label customers. We changed the designs on the back to use much less dark coloured ink, which would have no bearing on the quality of the labels, but this small change has enabled each ink cartridge to now produce 238 labels instead of just 119 which is a saving we are very pleased with.

OTHER WORK NOT QUITE FINISHED BUT CONTINUING:

We continue to work towards measuring our Product Carbon Footprint (PCF), on the thousands of products we make each year. This will allow us to better understand and manage the environmental impact of our products across their lifecycle. This includes measuring emissions associated with raw materials, manufacturing and blending, energy and utilities.

Collecting this data supports informed decision-making, helps identify opportunities to reduce emissions and improve efficiency, and ensures alignment with customer expectations and emerging regulatory requirements. By measuring PCF, we are taking a proactive step towards greater transparency, continuous improvement, and our wider sustainability objectives. This is a huge project for us and we will continue to work on this for the remainder of 2026.

SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT

We now have a process in place and are contacting all our suppliers this year, asking them to complete a questionnaire about their Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance. This information, as it is received, is being collated so that all our suppliers are rated on a traffic light system to ensure we are dealing only with companies that have good ethics and values themselves in the way they operate. This work is not yet completed but will remain an objective for the year ahead to finish in 2026.

We hope our involvement with local businesses and organisations will not only go a small way in helping support offsite schemes and initiatives but also inspire and empower others to take action for nature too."

1. CREATE NEW OFFSITE NATURE RECOVERY INITIATIVES

By working with customers and environmental or wildlife organisations such as the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust we are launching new collaborations and support new initiatives that help improve biodiversity and ecological restoration in various areas of our trading locations. For example, with Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust we are supporting one of their new Conservation Projects in Hawthorpe, South Lincolnshire, where old intensively farmed arable land, which has been taken out of production decades ago, is being returned to a natural landscape, where wildflower rich grasslands and new species are able to thrive, river habitats re-linked and wildlife can naturally recover and prosper. We have also started working with a farming customer in South Lincolnshire, supporting their beehive project and more diverse land management goals. There may even be some Witham Honey as a lovely outcome.

2. SUPPORT OF EDUCATION AT WHISBY NATURE RESERVE

Whisby Education Centre lies just outside Lincoln, surrounded by 370 acres of nature reserve. It has been carefully designed to balance countryside recreation, nature conservation and environmental education. With regular events planned for all ages, it presents unique opportunities to experience and learn about the natural world first hand. Through our fundraising achieved at our annual ball this year, we hope to support the Centre with vital equipment such as binoculars, microscopes and other items to help support the learning for all ages from Early Years, Primary, Secondary and Further Education.

3. ONSITE NATURE PROJECT INITIATIVES

We will be working on our two Witham depot sites at Lincoln and Soham this year to implement some new simple initiatives to bring back nature. From bird boxes and insect hotels, to looking at ways we can create small natural habitats within the concrete limitations we have.

ENVIRONMENTAL NEWS

REVIEW OF LUBE LABEL DESIGNS REDUCES INK USAGE BY 43%

Over the past few months, we have challenged ourselves to review all our label designs that have a high colour content on the back and redesign them with a lighter (less colour) use of ink.

The results have been amazing in that we have reduced the amount of ink cartridges needed by approximately 43%! Over the past 12 months, this simple act of redoing all the back labels of both our Witham

Qualube range and the own labels we design for customers has saved over 500 cartridges. This also means that we can now produce an impressive 284 labels from each ink cartridge, instead of 163.

At the same time have achieved more progress with our environmental goals to reduce unnecessary waste. Thanks to the Witham Team at Lincoln for their hard work on this project.

PACKAGING IMPROVEMENTS: MOVING FROM PLASTIC TO TINS

As part of our ongoing commitment to product quality and sustainability, we have transitioned the Creoguard, Prolan and Citrusol ranges from plastic containers into tin packaging.

This change has been made because these specialist products can gradually draw in or “suck” the plastic packaging over time. This can cause distortion, leading to containers looking misshapen and labels loosening or falling off – something that doesn’t reflect the high standards we expect for our products on customer shelves.

By switching to tins, we ensure:

ʥ Improved product presentation and shelf appeal

ʥ Stronger, more stable packaging that maintains its shape

ʥ Better label adhesion and long-term durability

There are also clear environmental advantages. Tin is widely recyclable, has a long lifecycle, and can be repeatedly reprocessed without loss of quality. This helps reduce plastic usage and supports our efforts to minimise environmental impact while still delivering robust, high-performance packaging for demanding applications.

HELPING REVOLUTIONISE THE GLOBAL MARKETING SUPPORT

We have been working closely with Blendtek to elevate their market presence and drive new business opportunities. Our support goes beyond standard social media and PR; we have developed a bespoke presentation for the Blendtek team to use across the world at events and to many industry lubricant blenders. The presentation includes a new animation that illustrates the efficiency of the Blendtek process compared to conventional blending and helps showcase our cutting edge capabilities.

This video has become a vital tool for the sales team, who are currently using it in presentations at industry events all over the world to showcase our cutting-edge capabilities. We have also supported Blendtek with presentations to Lincoln University who are using the story of conventional blending versus this method with their science students, as well as new inclusions into UKLA training courses about blending.

NEW PASSENGER CAR PRODUCT LAUNCH

QUALSYN MS FS 5W-30 STL03

Qualube MS FS 5W-30 STL03 is a premium fully synthetic motor oil engineered for modern petrol and diesel engines. It is now specifically introduced to meet the Stellantis FPW 9.55535/03 specification, now widely used in Peugeot and Citroen vehicles.

This product is designed for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles (including 1.5 BlueHDi and 1.2 PureTech units) requiring Mid SAPS technology and specific OEM approvals. The STL03 formulation addresses critical areas such as wear, cleanliness, and timing belt protection.

Lubricants are often judged by how well they perform once they’re inside an engine, gearbox or hydraulic system. But long before an oil protects your machinery, it has already been through a carefully controlled journey—one that has a direct impact on performance, longevity and reliability. Understanding how lubricants are made helps explain why quality really does matter. Here we take a look at where it all starts...

WHERE OIL BEGINS: EXTRACTION FROM THE EARTH

Most conventional lubricants start life as crude oil, extracted from reservoirs deep beneath the earth’s surface. Once drilled and brought to the surface, crude oil is a complex mixture of hydrocarbons—far too raw to be used directly in engines or machinery.

Crude oil itself varies hugely depending on where it comes from. Some crudes are lighter and cleaner, others are heavier and more contaminated. This is why not all base oils—and ultimately not all lubricants—are created equal.

REFINING: TURNING CRUDE OIL INTO USABLE BASE OILS

After extraction, crude oil is transported to a refinery where it is separated and refined. This process typically involves:

�� Distillation, where crude oil is heated and separated into fractions based on boiling points

�� Hydrotreating, which removes sulphur, nitrogen and other unwanted compounds

�� Further processing, to improve stability, purity and performance

The result is base oil - the foundation of most lubricants. These are commonly grouped into quality categories (Group I to Group V), with higher groups offering better oxidation resistance, cleaner performance and longer service life.

For end users, this matters because the quality of the base oil directly influences:

While base oil provides the foundation of a lubricant, it is the additive package that gives the oil its personality and purpose. In many modern lubricants, additives can account for up to 30%, and they are the reason one oil can outperform another in demanding conditions.

Additives are highly engineered chemical compounds, each designed to perform a specific task inside machinery. They work together as a balanced system—too little and the oil won’t protect properly; too much and performance can actually suffer.

KEY ADDITIVE TYPES INCLUDE:

Ɍ Viscosity index improvers, which help the oil maintain the correct thickness across a wide temperature range—thin enough to flow at cold start, yet strong enough to protect under high operating temperatures.

Ɍ Friction modifiers, which reduce internal resistance, help to improve energy efficiency, reduce heat build-up and in some cases contribute to fuel or power savings.

Each lubricant - whether an engine oil, hydraulic oil, gear oil or grease - requires a carefully tailored additive balance. For example, a hydraulic oil prioritises cleanliness, oxidation stability and water separation, while a gear oil needs extreme-pressure additives to cope with high loads. Greases add another layer of complexity, combining base oils, additives and thickeners to stay in place under demanding conditions.

For end users, this is why substituting oils or using ‘near enough’ products can be a false economy. Two oils may look similar on the surface, but their additive systems can be very different—and those differences only become apparent once wear, deposits or premature failure begin to show.

Ultimately, it’s the additive package that transforms base oil into a high-performance lubricant - one that protects, cleans, cools and extends the life of valuable machinery.

FIVE YEAR’S

ON & WE’VE NEVER LOOKED BACK

BPA engineering is a Plant and Agricultural Engineering business, based in Hollesley, near Woodbridge in Suffolk. The brainchild of husband and wife team Joe and Jessica Buswell, BPA was set up five years ago and is now a thriving business with five star reviews and an impressive track record. We recently caught up with Jess to tell us more about the company and how they just wished they had set up on their own sooner.

IN THE BEGINNING…

Joe and I always wanted to start our own company before we were 30. We were 29 years of age when the world went into lockdown for the Covid outbreak in 2020. This was the time when we thought “if we don’t do this now, we never will, what have we got to lose”. Even if we just try for a couple of years and if we fail, we know we did everything we could. I (Jessica) was on maternity leave with a 6-month-old baby. I also had a 6-year-old at home. I hated the thought of going back to work to a place I didn’t enjoy, working in an environment where I was taken advantage of and felt over worked and unappreciated. Working long hours where I was missing out on my children. I always knew I wanted to have my own company and be able to have the flexibility in the long run to suit my family.

Joe worked for many dealership companies and independents, but always knew he wanted to work for himself. Joe knew that he could provide a much better customer/engineer relationship. Treating the customer with respect, truthfulness and loyalty. Joe loves what he does and has the knowledge and skills to provide customers with a great service.

We had no savings to start us off, but we had a family member who offered to lend us money for a second-hand van in which Joe could start off being mobile working on-site. Joe already had tools to organise his van and that’s it…. He was off!! I set up a home office in my conservatory to be able to start the admin and organising from home. Within a couple of months, we were offered a small rental unit in Melton which we could use to start doing larger workshop based jobs. Joe and I purchased a brand new van in March 2022 which allowed us to look at taking on an employee.

HOW THE BUSINESS HAS GROWN…

In 2023 we took the leap to rent a larger, more suited workshop in Hollesley and welcomed Dean to become our first employee. Since then, James joined the team in 2024. William then joined us in the summer of 2025 as an apprentice, to complete our team. We became a Limited company in January 2025, and the company has 5 employees including myself and Joe as Directors. We also have Anne who works self-employed 1-2 days a week in the office alongside me.

WHO ARE YOUR CUSTOMERS?

We have a variety of customers from large to small farms, as well as independent agricultural and plant contractors. We also provide services to construction and waste management machinery. We service both fixed and moving plant.

WHAT DO YOU DO?

In a nutshell, our business provides maintenance and repairs on all types of farming and industrial machinery. We provide onsite welding and computer diagnostics. An emergency call out service is also available.

In more detail, our service provides anything from vintage to “just out of dealer warranty machines.” We carry out anything from minor repairs and servicing to full transmission and engine rebuilds, hydraulic and electrical faults. We also carry out in house fabrication and on-site welding services. We have recently started offering line-boring services using a specialist tool. We have genuine dealer level diagnostic equipment which is used for all Agco i.e. Massey, Fendt, Valtra. We have JCB and John Deere as well as independent diagnostic tool which covers almost all Agricultural and plant machines. We provide these services on-site from three fully equipped vans and inside our workshop.

WHAT SETS YOU APART FROM YOUR COMPETITORS?

Our main competitors are the main dealers, but we feel our personal service provides much better customer satisfaction. Our customers will know exactly what to expect with regard to the extent of the job and the cost involved. We build relationships and our customers come back repeatedly.

We have other independent competitors, but we work alongside each other and between us all we help each other out. If we need to share the workload between us or reach out for help and advice on something, we know someone in the circle would be able to advise the other. We can for sure rely on theses friendly competitors.

HOW HAS THE BUSINESS CHANGED OVER THE PAST 5 YEARS

We have just reached our 5th year of BPA and we are going strong. We have an amazing team of hard working, honest and most reliable employees that you could ever ask for and we can trust and rely on each and every one of them. We have an amazing customer base with new customers approaching us each and every week. We think we have definitely got our name out there now and we would like to think it's all good words!

The business has grown so much in the last 5 years, more than we ever thought it would. We step back sometimes and take a minute to actually take in where we started to where we are now, and the difference is crazy! Its true what they say, “Hard work does pay off.” Don’t get me wrong, it has not been easy and it has taken time, money and many long hours, but we like to think we can take a small step back and enjoy our family a bit more and trust our employees to have it all under control when we are away. Enjoying those lost hours and moments is important now, especially having such a young family.

WHAT IS YOUR COMPANY ETHOS?

We like to say our values are based on Integrity. Doing the right thing, staying honest, taking accountability and transparency in every decision and action we undertake. Also, passion. Having the energy and purpose to keep going. It keeps us motivated, helps us tackle challenges and taking pride in the service we provide even on the bad days.

HOW HAS THE LAST YEAR OR SO IMPACTED YOUR BUSINESS?

There are always challenges to running your own company. The ups and downs financially are the biggest challenge. Not only for us but also the farms which we support.

Farming and agriculture has been hit hard over the past year and this is an ongoing challenge, but we are finding that customers are wanting to repair their machines rather than trading in or buying new to keep costs down and that is where we can help. We try to do what we can and have a hopeful mindset. The support from our government and local council has been awful, there is little to none, but we think that it is what it is and we are happy standing alone.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR PROUDEST MOMENT?

Achieving all we set out to do and more. Getting to where we are now and feeling proud of how the business has grown over just 5 years. Being thankful to customers, suppliers, family and friends for their unconditional support and encouragement. Without them it wouldn’t have been possible.

IF YOU COULD DO IT ALL AGAIN, WHAT WOULD YOU DO DIFFERENTLY?

We would have started the company sooner.

WHAT ARE YOUR FUTURE PLANS?

We like to believe that within the next 5 years we will purchase a plot of land and build our own workshop. We would also like to have a couple more employees to grow that little bit more.

WHEN AND WHY DID YOU START USING WITHAM GROUP?

We started using Witham’s back in 2021 when we had our workshop. Joe used the main dealers own brands supplied by Witham’s which was being used on machines in warranty and if it's good enough for the dealers it's then perfect for us.

We now purchase many different types of lubricants and greases, such as high quality engine oils, transmission fluids, hydraulic oils and gear oils. Witham now supply us with our own branded range which we use ourselves and sell on to customers. We have also been supplied with useful storage tanks, assisting us with oil regulations and helping to tidy up our workshop.

We like how communicative they are. We place an order and its delivered promptly. If there are any problems, they get resolved straight away. We enjoy the relationship we have with Witham’s, whether it’s the admin team, sales team or the delivery people. They go that extra mile for us and they have made our workplace operate more efficiently. Great team!

EFFICIENCY ON THE FARM: NEW BULK STORAGE FOR PETER LANKFER

Peter Lankfer, who farms approximately 650 acres on the Cambridgeshire/ Norfolk border, recently decided to upgrade his oil storage system. After years of purchasing lubricants in barrels, Peter has now installed new bulk storage tanks and a set of colour-coded jugs.

This new setup is designed to keep the workshop tidy, simplify oil level management, create a greener environment with less packaging waste or spills and make routine maintenance much more efficient.

“THE BEST I HAVE EVER USED” PRAISE FROM HUGH PEARL

Established in 1955, Hugh Pearl has grown into a leading contractor for land drainage and civil engineering projects across the South East. We recently had the pleasure of helping them refurbish one of their Howard Rotavators using our highperformance Woco paint system.

The project started with our 133 Etch Primer, which the customer described as "the best I have ever used!" This was followed by a topcoat of 556 Acrylic Gloss in iconic "Rotavator Orange."

These machines are essential for primary and secondary tillage, seedbed preparation, and soil aeration. Given the tough nature of their work, a durable finish is vital and the customer was absolutely delighted with the final result.

CLASSIC TRACTOR RESTORED USING WITHAM PRODUCTS

This 1999 Ford New Holland, 8870 Genesis tractor, is the latest machine to go through the workshop of Andrew Marwood. Built in the Versatile tractor factory in Winnipeg, Canada, these were some of the last blue tractors to carry the Ford name, after the New Holland takeover.

The blue panels benefited from a good machine polish, but the grey engine, transmission and rear end needed the magic touch from Ronan Marwood with his spray gun and paint booth. We were proud to supply the paint and lubricants for this renovation.

Any technical issues were dealt with by Andrew’s other son, Kieran, who spends his time on the service and repair of New Holland tractors and combines, as well as other makes of farm machinery. A great restoration result that we were proud to be involved in.

BOBCAT RESTORATION: USING WOCO SUPERCOTE

We recently supported a customer with a full cosmetic restoration of their Bobcat, providing a complete suite of coatings to bring it back to showroom condition.

EFFICIENCY IN MOTION: WITH QUALUBE GRAPHITED FIFTH WHEEL GREASE

This photo shows our Qualube Graphited Fifth Wheel Grease being put to good work on a dock shunting truck for RMS Shipping in Goole. RMS is a major operator with additional sites in Hull, Grimsby, and Flixborough, and their fleet faces a gruelling schedule.

Because these "shunters" connect and disconnect from dozens of trailers every hour, high-performance lubrication is essential. RMS previously used a general purpose grease that simply couldn’t withstand the constant friction, leading to frequent reapplications, increased downtime, and higher costs.

By switching to our Graphited Fifth Wheel Grease, they’ve seen an immediate difference. The grease "holds on" much longer, requiring fewer applications and reducing strain on the fifthwheel connections.

This not only saves time but also significantly reduces wear and tear on their trailer fleet.

FROM RUST TO RESTORATION: ADN SURFACING’S UNIQUE PROJECT

We are delighted to highlight a special project by one of our new customers, ADN Surfacing. They discovered this "little tractor" after it had been sitting idle for nearly 40 years; it was a non-runner in desperate need of some serious attention.

After countless hours of what the team describes as "enjoyable restoration," the tractor is now fully operational and back to its former glory. This unusual and unique work of art has already become a star attraction, appearing at several local country fairs. We are thrilled that our products could play a part in bringing this piece of machinery back to life.

The team used our Woco Supercote Primer Undercoat 371 aerosols and Woco Supercote 370 Ford Tractor Blue to achieve a stunning result. Having fallen in love with the amazing finish of our Woco paint, they now regularly order custom-matched colours in aerosols using our scan and match system for use on tractors, benches, and everything in between.

A HISTORIC HONOUR: RESTORING THE MTB-102

We are incredibly proud to have supplied the specialist marine paints for the restoration of the legendary MTB-102. As one of the most storied vessels in British naval history, she served as the Royal Navy’s fastest craft during WWII and famously acted as a flagship during the Dunkirk evacuation.

Beyond her wartime heroics, the MTB-102 has carried world leaders such as Winston Churchill and General Eisenhower, and more recently appeared on the silver screen in the film Dunkirk.

Today, she remains a beautifully preserved example of high-speed engineering and a local icon on the Norfolk and Suffolk coast. Being involved in the preservation of such a magnificent vessel is a true honour for the Witham Group.

When local farmer Robert Borrill decided it was time to refresh the tired paintwork on a prominent barn in his yard, he turned to us wanting a long-lasting solution.

18,000 MILES OF ADVENTURE

When Ollie Robertson and his best friend James Weller set out to plan their university summer break, they could have chosen the usual route: part-time work, festivals, or a laid-back holiday. Instead, they chose something entirely different - an 18,000-mile overland expedition across Africa in a 2001 Toyota Land Cruiser they have restored. Their mission? To drive from London to Zimbabwe via Cape Town in just 85 days, leaving on 14th June 2026.

THE VEHICLE:

A TRUSTED 100-SERIES LAND CRUISER

At the heart of the expedition is a 2001 Toyota Land Cruiser 100 series — a machine known for its reliability in the harshest conditions. Restored and prepared for the demands of long-distance overlanding, it will be their home, workshop, and lifeline for nearly three months on the road.

THE CHALLENGE: BORN FROM FRIENDSHIP

“Why are we doing it?” they asked. “We said… why not?” What started as a conversation between best mates quickly evolved into a full-scale overlanding challenge: a test of endurance, mechanical know-how, navigation skills, and friendship. The original route was London to Cape Town but they decided, with James living in Zimbabwe, that this should be the final destination. The route became both a personal journey and a shared mission.

But this isn’t just about the miles; along the way, they are raising funds for a cause close to the hearts of James and his family: a community rhino conservation initiative near Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe. Their goal is to support local conservation efforts protecting one of Africa’s most iconic and vulnerable species.

A FAMILY LEGACY OF EXCELLENCE FOR 175 YEARS

Arthur Ibbett Ltd is a family run business based in Great Paxton, near St Neots in Cambridgeshire. Celebrating an incredible 175 years of business this year, we caught up with Tim Ibbet to help share the story of their development and how they have grown from machinery repairs to offering a whole range of products and services for their local community and beyond...

The company has a proud history dating back to 1851. Thomas Ibbett, a skilled blacksmith working on the railway, founded the business and named it after his son, Arthur.

Starting from humble beginnings, Thomas saved enough money to purchase a forge in Bells Yard, South Street, St. Neots, just off the market square. Throughout the 1800s, Ibbetts prospered as a versatile provider of agricultural engineering, blacksmithing, and machinery manufacturing, thus becoming a vital part of the local community. When Thomas passed away in 1904, his son Arthur took over, transforming the family enterprise by adding services like steam engine repairs, mill writing, and lawn mower sharpening.

As agriculture advanced into mechanisation, Arthur embraced innovation by importing American farm machinery, including renowned brands like John Deere, Allis Chalmers, and International Harvester. The First World War further accelerated growth as land cultivation increased, so Arthur expanded the business to include the sale of large American farm equipment.

Then in 1968, Cyril, Arthur’s son, played a key role in further expansion, moving the business to its current location on River Lane, Great Paxton. This increased the capacity in sales and servicing of both agricultural and garden machinery.

OILS, ENGINES AND THE ART OF PRESERVING VINTAGE MOTORS

For any classic car garage, the engine oil on the shelf is as much a piece of preservation equipment as a spanner or torque wrench. According to the latest annual report from the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs, the UK’s historic vehicle movement continues to thrive, supporting a substantial slice of the economy and representing a vast fleet of vehicles now well beyond their original design life. In practical terms, that means more classics on the road, more restorations in workshops, and a growing responsibility on technicians to understand lubrication not just as maintenance, but as long-term conservation.

In this article, Nigel Bottom, Group Managing Director of British lubricant manufacturer Witham Group, takes a look at how motor oil has evolved, why modern oils don’t always suit older engines, and what mechanics can do to keep vintage motors running sweetly for decades to come.

FROM STRAIGHT MINERAL OILS TO MODERN BLENDS

When many of the classics we service were built, engine oils were simple mineral blends. Early monograde oils (SAE 30, SAE 40) had limited additive packages and relied largely on frequent changes to control wear and contamination.

Engines were designed with looser tolerances, flat-tappet camshafts and relatively low operating temperatures, so these straightforward oils were entirely appropriate.

As engine technology advanced through the 1960s - 1990s, oils evolved too:

ʥ Detergent additives were introduced to keep engines cleaner.

ʥ Multigrade oils (e.g. 10W-40) improved cold-start protection.

ʥ Anti-wear additives, particularly ZDDP (zinc dialkyldithiophosphate), protected cam lobes and followers.

ʥ Later, synthetic base oils delivered higher stability and longer drain intervals.

Today’s engines - with tight tolerances, turbochargers and emissions equipment - demand low-viscosity, lowSAPS oils. But here’s the catch: those modern formulations don’t always suit older engines.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR WORKSHOPS

The latest FBHVC report emphasises that the historic vehicle parc is ageing and used differently from modern cars - lower annual mileages, more storage periods, and more vehicles undergoing restoration or sympathetic rebuilds. For mechanics, this translates into a different lubrication mindset:

1. Engines are Often Under-used, not Over-used Long lay-ups increase condensation, fuel dilution and corrosion risk, all issues that oil must actively combat.

2. Original Engine Designs are Still in Service

Flat-tappet cams, cork seals and rope rear mains all place unique demands on lubricant chemistry.

3. Longevity is the Priority

Owners are rarely chasing maximum performance; they want reliable starts, minimal wear, and preservation of original components.

Working on vintage motors isn’t just mechanical repair - it’s stewardship. These vehicles are preserved not merely as transport, but as cultural and engineering artefacts. For the technician, that means every oil change, rebuild and recommissioning job contributes to the survival of machines that were never designed to last this long.

Understanding lubrication history gives us an edge:

ʥ It explains why some engines prefer “old-school” oil chemistry.

ʥ It helps diagnose wear patterns linked to modern low-zinc oils.

ʥ It informs restoration decisions - especially when originality matters as much as reliability.

WHY MODERN OILS AREN’T ALWAYS “BETTER”

FOR CLASSICS

It’s tempting to assume that the latest synthetic oil will automatically improve an older engine. In reality, several factors make classic-compatible lubricants essential:

1. Zinc Content Matters

Many classic engines rely on higher ZDDP levels to protect flat-tappet camshafts. Modern low-zinc oilsdesigned to protect catalytic converters - can accelerate wear in older valve train designs.

2. Seal Compatibility

Modern synthetic oils can be more aggressive on aged seals and gaskets, sometimes leading to leaks in engines that were perfectly dry on older mineral formulations.

3. Detergent Levels

Highly detergent modern oils can dislodge decades of harmless sludge in an unrestored engine, potentially blocking oil ways or filters. Controlled-cleanliness formulations are often safer for original units.

THE CHANGING NEEDS OF OLDER VEHICLES

Keeping vintage motors running “as long as possible” is less about pushing performance and more about controlled ageing. Today’s workshop has to consider:

Low Mileage, High Time

Classic cars might only cover 1,000 miles a year, but the oil is ageing continuously. Moisture and acids build up even when mileage is low, making annual oil changes essential regardless of distance covered.

Storage and Seasonal Use

Extended lay-ups call for oils with good corrosion inhibitors. Prestorage oil changes help remove acidic contaminants, while a fresh change before recommissioning provides optimum protection.

Rebuilt vs. Original Engines

• Fresh rebuilds need running-in oils with appropriate additive levels.

• Unrestored originals often benefit from gentler detergency and slightly higher viscosity to maintain oil pressure and reduce blow-by.

PRACTICAL OIL ADVICE FOR THE CLASSIC WORKSHOP AND OWNERS

To give customers confidence and engines longevity, consider these key lubrication strategies:

Ɍ Match viscosity to design, not fashion: Many classics were designed around 20W-50 oils, and that thicker film can be vital for worn clearances.

Ɍ Prioritise anti-wear protection: Engines with flat-tappet cams need adequate zinc/phosphorus levels.

Ɍ Change oil on time, not just mileage: Ageing oil causes corrosion even when the vehicle is rarely driven.

Ɍ Watch for fuel dilution: Carburetted engines and short runs can thin oil quickly.

Ɍ Use specialist formulations where appropriate: Oils tailored for classic and historic vehicles often strike the right balance between protection and compatibility.

Ɍ Ensure your oil supplier has the technical expertise to give the right recommendations, no matter how old or modified it is. Modifications can make a real difference to what lubricants are required.

Ɍ Stop the Rust: Using a quality rust prevention product can stop rust in its tracks and help preserve the vehicle chassis parts, floor pans, suspension mounting points, cavity sections, moulded seams and joints. Remember paint alone will not stop water creeping in over time.

Arbor Forest Products is a family-owned business with roots dating back approximately 150 years. Over the last 70 years, they have grown from humble beginnings to become one of the largest independent timber importers and processors in the UK.

We were recently lucky to visit the business and catch up with Gwyn Tuxford, Head of Manufacturing (of Arbor Edge, part of the Arbor Forest Products) to find out more about this successful business and what it takes to be on the leading edge of importing and processing timber in the UK…

ARBOR A DRIVING FORCE IN TIMBER PROCESSING

The current 90-acre site, based in New Holland, was established by the father of the current owners, Andrew and Nick Howard, who demonstrated significant foresight by purchasing old railway sidings in the 1970s.

The company offices, referred to as "The Castle," are now located in the original terminal for the ferry crossing that pre-dated the Humber Bridge. The site was purchased over 50 years ago to help in the first step of growth for the business, enabling it to increase the stock holding of timber.

We started back then to import timber from Sweden to have a consistent supply to our customers. We started manufacturing softwood to ensure quality products, and our customers wanted us to supply manufactured products as well as the raw material.

ARBOR A DRIVING FORCE IN TIMBER PROCESSING

In the 2000’s, we started extending our product lines and began manufacturing MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard), providing a complete multi-product offering. Continual investment and a clear focus on customer centric processes allowed us to eliminate minimum order requirements by delivering all our products on one vehicle – the revolutionary "Warehouse on Wheels” service.

Despite our extensive portfolio of products, the business is divided into two primary manufacturing "paths": Arbor Mill, a sawmill and a moulding department, which is known as Arbor Edge.

→ The Sawmill - imports and processes softwood, primarily sourced from the Baltic states and offers bespoke milling solutions as well as machined timber for construction, structural and landscaping and composite decking. Through continual investment, the mill is capable of processing over 200,000 m3 of timber every year. The treatment plants use the most advanced control technology to high-pressure treat fencing, timber decking and construction timber to the highest standards.

→ MDF Mouldings: This department focuses on architectural products such as skirting boards, architraves, door casings, and linings. The raw MDF is sourced from specialised mills in Ireland, Wales, Scotland, and Belgium. This part of the business is known as Arbor Edge.

A core philosophy of the company is that "We don't cut corners", and our products have a superior finish due to rigorous preparation, including a recent £500,000 investment in advanced sanding machinery used to improve the finish on all our MDF moulded products.

MARKET STRATEGY: THE "WAREHOUSE ON WHEELS"

Arbor occupies a specific niche by focusing on B2B relationships rather than national retail contracts. Our primary customers are independent builders' merchants and we carry between 500 - 600 different product lines. This massive stock allows us to fulfil our "Warehouse on Wheels" service with a dedicated team working around the clock, covering planning, logistics, loading and driving. It’s as if we bring our warehouse to the customer, cutting out the inconvenience, cost and environmental impact of multiple deliveries and delivering any products anywhere in the UK within 48 hours.

We try to be the best, make the best quality products, with the best raw materials and offer the best service with unbeatable reliability. Sometimes we are a victim of our own success, as our biggest challenge is keeping up with demand. The business has seen an influx of work recently due to shifts in the market, such as national contracts moving to German suppliers and competitors withdrawing from specific product lengths.

SUSTAINABILITY AND CIRCULAR INNOVATION

We are at the forefront of environmental issues in the timber industry, operating strict due diligence procedures to meet industry standards and to achieve our own stringent internal targets. We were one of the first in the UK to achieve full chain of custody certification for both FSC® (FSC-C013579) (Forest Stewardship Council®) and PEFC (PEFC/1637-009) (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification), enabling us to purchase, import and supply customers with certified timber.

"Wood & Slumber"

The overall facility produces 150 tons of wood dust and shavings per week. Following a multimillion-pound investment in an in-house bailing plant, this waste is now converted into premium horse bedding under its "Wood & Slumber" brand, which offers pine and spruce shavings from responsibly managed forests. The quality is high enough to be exported to Dubai for elite racehorses.

We focus on the Arbor site too, having installed a biomass plant on site to recycle waste and provide an environmentally efficient heat source for the plant. We’re active in our local community, supporting initiatives like a new village community centre and sponsoring local sports teams.

Arbor has implemented sophisticated systems to handle manufacturing by-products, turning waste into revenue, which include:

Paint Flocculation

To manage paint wastewater, Gwyn introduced a "flocculation" process using a specialised chemical powder. This process separates the paint solids from water, allowing the water to be recycled for cleaning again and saving each time over 30% of water usage. This system has significantly reduced the cost of waste disposal and overall water usage.

Renewable Energy

The company recently installed £2 million worth of solar panels and is working to utilise wood waste in a biomass system for onsite heating.

Arbor has traditionally diversified its supplies so as not to put all its eggs in one basket, but after years of testing, Witham Group moved from a 25% share to providing 100% of their water based paint supply. This relationship was built over years of demonstrating that the Witham products were of the quality we needed, along with trusting the supplier service we require.

Gwyn values the local service, which mitigates the supply chain risks associated with overseas timber and paint providers.

Dave Lagden, Witham Group’s Specialist Paint Technician, worked with Gwyn to fine tune the paint product and ensure it has properties that don’t leave a sticky residue and has anti-fungal qualities to protect it whilst it's wrapped in plastic for delivery. The finish has to be second to none, and we are pleased with the quality of paint products we receive from Witham Group. We also use some oils and lubricants in the workshop for our own fleet of lorries and machinery.

A CUT ABOVE THE REST

Despite heavy competition from local neighbours like Wren Kitchens, Arbor boasts an 80% retention rate for employees with over 10 years of service. Gwyn attributes this to "good management" and a clean, brightly lit, and safe modern factory environment.

Brian Eley, my dad, founded the business on his 40th birthday (1 April 1986) with the support of my mum Janice. They worked together until retirement. We relocated the garage in 2021 to bigger premises.

How is the business adapting for the future?

Maintaining technological expertise is very important to us and we ensure the team are trained to support these changes as we move forward. We are also keen to support younger people into the mechanic trade through apprenticeships.

A Global Legacy from a Family Foundation

Based in Deeping St Nicholas in the south of Lincolnshire, Wells Wellcut is a true British engineering success story. Founded in the mid-1980s by John Wells who revolutionised stone cutting with a portable petrol-powered guillotine, the company has grown into a global exporter.

Today, they are the UK's largest manufacturer of masonry saws & stone splitters and their massive bridge saws and gantry machines (some weighing up to 15 tons and stretching 12 metres wide) can be found in quarries and cutting yards from the UK to Iceland, the USA, and New Zealand.

The Birth of "Wells Blue"

For years, the team at Wells used traditional "hammerfinish" paints. While they looked the part, the drying times were a bottleneck, and the inability to overcoat for weeks slowed down their production line.

They turned to Witham Group’s paint specialist, Dave Lagden, to find a better way. Our chemists didn't just pull a colour off the shelf; they looked at the Wells production process, analysed their drying requirements, and perfected a high-gloss, durable finish that is now officially known as "Wells Blue."

"The paint was developed specifically for us," says Luke from Wells Wellcut. "It gives us the professional finish we need without the 'messing about' of our old systems. Every machine that leaves here is Wells Blue—it’s our signature."

Innovation Through Collaboration: TH52

The partnership doesn't stop at paint. When Wells encountered issues with standard thinners leaving a residue on raw steel, they again worked with Dave to find a solution. The result was TH52 - a specialised, nearly odourless degreaser that evaporates rapidly and ensures a perfect bond between metal and coating. It was so effective that it has since become one of Witham’s top-selling products of its type nationwide.

LUCY LAVERS GETS A SPRING MAKEOVER

The "Rescue Wooden Boats" skipper, trustees, and dedicated volunteer maintenance team have been hard at work getting the Lucy Lavers shipshape for spring, with a little help from our Woco paint. Now based in the busy fishing port of Wells-next-the-Sea, in North Norfolk, this remarkable vessel was originally built in 1939 and then used in the 1940 Dunkirk Rescue Operation.

The Rescue Wooden Boats team is currently applying a fresh coat of Woco Marine paint to ensure she is looking her best for the upcoming heritage tours, which resume at Easter.

Our partnership with the Lucy Lavers project spans over a decade, beginning in 2015 when we originally donated the paint for her full restoration.

We are incredibly proud to continue supporting the preservation of this historic vessel as she prepares for another season on the water.

Lucy Lavers Heritage tours and charters are available from Easter to October (weather permitting) to the public, schools and other groups, acting as a floating ambassador to help people experience a wartime wooden lifeboat and understand our local maritime heritage. HAWKER HUNTER GETS WOCO MAKEOVER

We have been proud to supply the Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum for over 25 years. The museum continues to grow and we have been proud to supply the paint for the restoration of a Hawker Hunter, in Supercote enamel, now on static display at their site near Bungay, Suffolk.

PRESERVING A SPECIAL TIME IN HISTORY: WITHAM GROUP SUPPORTS WW2

We recently were able to continue our support of the award-winning “We’ll Meet Again” WW2 Museum in Boston, Lincolnshire. After two years of dedicated construction, the museum has officially unveiled its impressive new hangar. This significant addition was designed with a special purpose in mind: to house the museum’s full-scale replica Hawker Hurricane aircraft.

To help bring this project to the finish line, Witham Group was honoured to supply all the highperformance paints required for the hangar’s walls, woodwork, metal work and internal decoration. Having already provided the paint to restore the incredible Hurricane aircraft a couple of years ago, it is now an honour to see it pride of place inside the new building along with so many other amazing war artifacts and displays.

The new building isn’t just about storage; it’s a vibrant new asset for the Lincolnshire community that will serve as an event space and educational hub.

We were touched by the feedback from David Brooks, a dedicated volunteer at the museum, who shared: “A sincere thank you to the Witham Group for your support with paints for the project. It is a tremendous help to us.” Nigel Bottom our MD added: "We highly recommend stopping by the “We’ll Meet Again” Museum to see not only the new hangar but all their incredible museum collections. There is a wonderful vintage café serving lunches, cakes and refreshments and so much authentic memorabilia, probably one of the largest collections in the UK. We are proud to see our products playing a small part in protecting the stories of the past for future generations to enjoy.

For their latest project, we had the challenge of specially mixing authentic camo shades to match 1940 Battle of Britain specifications. Seeing the paint applied to this new replica RAF control tower is fantastic—Darren and Bradley have done a brilliant job on the build!

NEW SPRUCE UP FOR VINTAGE PUMPING STATION

Located near Tattershall, Lincolnshire, Dogdyke Pumping Station is a fascinating heritage museum dedicated to the history of land drainage in the Lincolnshire Fenlands. Featuring unique steam engine pumps, a charming tea room, and beautiful gardens, it is a true local gem.

As a long-standing customer of the Witham Group, we were delighted to support their recent maintenance projects with a donation of our Woco paint.

The team at Dogdyke recently upgraded the steam engine house doors. We provided our classic Mid Brunswick Green finish for the project, and as you can see from the photos, the volunteers have been busy applying the new coats. OVER 50 YEARS OF PRECISION ENGINEERING

THE CHALLENGE: Fumes and Finish

When shipping heavy-duty cast iron components across continents, protection is everything. To ensure their brake discs arrive in peak condition, Jaylew applies a coating of Woco Red Oxide primer to prevent rust and oxidation during transit. However, finding the right formula proved to be a significant challenge.

For years, the team used a solvent-based primer. While effective, it created a difficult working environment. Without a dedicated, closed-off spray booth, solvent fumes would fill the factory floor. Naturally, Managing Director Andrew Fletcher wanted to switch to a water-based alternative to improve air quality and safety for his staff.

The transition wasn't simple he explains. "In the past, we tried water-based paints, but they just didn’t work with our process," Andrew explains. "In precision machining, there is always a residue of coolants or fluids left on the metal. The previous water-based paints would react with those residues, leading to poor adhesion and lowquality results."

Specialising in heavy industry and the rail sector, Jaylew Engineering Ltd is perhaps best known for a critical piece of infrastructure: large-scale train brake discs. These high-precision components are manufactured in Grantham before being shipped to clients across the UK, Ireland, and as far afield as Africa.

Recently, we went to visit Jaylew Engineering at their manufacturing site who have been a staple of the subcontract precision machining and fabrication sector since 1970. The paint finish on their products is of the utmost importance and we met up with Andrew Fletcher, MD, to discuss their changing needs and how Witham Group have helped them develop bespoke solutions for their growing business.

THE WITHAM SOLUTION: A Custom Formula

Witham Group was able to offer specialist technical support and advice to help solve this problem. Rather than offering a "one-size-fits-all" product, Witham’s technical paint expert, Dave Lagden, worked closely with the Jaylew team to develop a bespoke water-based formula.

By introducing a specific additive designed to neutralise the effects of production residues, we created a primer that bonds perfectly to the cast iron, straight at the end of the machining process. This resulted in a high-quality, professional finish that protects the product without the harsh fumes of traditional solvents.

Andrew Fletcher commented "The paint product is very easy to use, and we’ve had no problems at all. But beyond the paint, it’s the personal relationship with the sales team that stands out. It’s a simple, competitive process, and we value the ease of dealing with another local business that understands our needs."

VICTORY AND HARD LUCK: LEPLEY MOTORSPORT AT THE RIPONIAN RALLY

Congratulations to George Lepley of Lepley Motorsport for winning the historic Riponian Rally 2026! George and codriver Dafydd Evans delivered a flawless performance in their Mitsubishi Galant VR4, leading from start to finish to take 1st overall in the British Historic Rally Championship.

James Lepley was also competing in his new Mitsubishi Evo 6 in Category 5 and was leading after two stages. Unfortunately, a differential failure forced him to retire after stage three.

NEW MIGHTY MINIS PARTNERSHIP

In November, we announced a new lubricant partnership with Mighty Minis Racing for the 2026 championship. We are proud to provide the best lubricants and workshop products for their classic Minis.
