RWCM - Meet the Artists Brochure

Page 1

The mural design organizes imagery into four elements—Air, Earth, Water, Humanity—to create a continuous composition that stretches the entire 520 foot wall. The wisps of wishes are blown from the north and float toward the south, carrying along a diversity of hopes and dreams expressed by the community. The concept is to celebrate our strengths, bring the community together and create momentum to move toward a better future for everyone.

Selected artists for Phase 1 created and laid out the mural’s overall design, which was painted by Phase 2 artists and volunteers. Phase 3 Community art educators assisted reserved spot volunteer painters.

This mural reflects our community´s responses to: What are your hopes and dreams for the future? For yourself, loved ones, our community, the world... Our collective wishes will be set free when the wall panels are removed to transform this site into a public park.

Project goals included

- encouraging diverse community participation (planning, idea generation, donating paint, design, painting, and documenting);

- collaboratively creating temporary public art installation

- experimenting, learning together, and testing ideas that could inspire more permanent murals and public art locally

- providing socially safe distanced, outdoor activity

- fostering connections and building community

Many thanks to Mayor Ken Wray, Village Board of Trustees, Village staff, Edge-on-Hudson, community members who responded to the call for ideas, selected artists, paint donors, volunteer painters, photographers, videographers, supporters, friends, our families and to all those who helped make this project a success.
