MILE AFTER MILE: WLHS XC by Terry Cai Wisco has a powerful sports program. Many of the teams in this program perform well enough to make it into the state competitions on a regular basis; cross country is one of them. According to head coach Mr. Lueck, cross country is a sport that involves running and endurance on all types of terrain—but is this all? Is there more to it? Runners Henry Schapekahm, Joey Gu and head coach, Mr. Lueck, helped answer this question. This is Schapekahm’s third year as a cross country runner at Wisco. He has been

running for the majority of his life. Starting in second grade, cross country became important to him. Gu is a sophomore. Just like Schapekahm, he started running at Wisco during his freshman year. Although he was not sure about cross country at the start, after a year of running, it’s safe to say that enjoys cross country so much that he was willing to run on a hot and humid day in Shanghai, China in July! Coach Lueck teaches history at Wisco. Running has always been a passion of his, and thirty-two years ago, when he was still an undergraduate (continued on page 2)
