My advice for freshmen is to get involved with one of the dozens of co-curricular activities that are available to students — even if you are not sure you may like it. Being part of a team or group helps new students make friends and feel part of something bigger than themselves.

Mr. Brad Wetzel (‘98) Director of Admissions

My advice for freshmen is to cherish every moment while it happens. Four years may seem like a long time, however, it’s going to pass quickly. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone when it comes to Brad Wetzel, meeting new people and Director of Admissions joining new events and activities. With the blessing of such diversity that WLHS offers, there is so much to learn from and be enriched by through interactions with others. Above all else, with Christ at the center of all things at WLHS, we can be confident that the Lord will bless these students and their families.

Tuition Assistance a Simple Process

Doug and Jennifer (Whitlock) Shiery (‘94) live in a good school district but made the decision early on to send their daughters to a Lutheran high school. “Jennifer went to Wisco and I went to California Lutheran. We both know our high school experiences set a positive course for the rest of our lives,” says Doug. “We wanted our two daughters, Maggie and Paige, to have that same solid foundation.” During Maggie’s 8th grade year at Star of Bethlehem Lutheran School in New Berlin, the couple reached out to Brad Wetzel (’98), WLHS director of admissions, to discuss tuition assistance. “Once we started the process, we found out it was easy and simple,” says Doug. “If we ever had any questions, Brad was accessible and responsive and the communication we got was really thorough.” Thanks to the tuition assistance the family received, Maggie joined WLHS last year and got involved in student life right away. She played freshman basketball during the winter, joined the soccer team in the spring, and made new friends throughout the year. “We have monthly tuition payments right now but we know it’s worth every penny because it’s an investment that will pay off for Maggie for years and years to come,” says Doug. ,

Meet Our New Teachers

This year we’ve added eight talented professionals to our faculty and staff. Six Alums Return to WLHS

Mrs. Meg (Raddant) Schuessler (’97) Art Instructor When I was at Wisco, I spent many semesters in the ceramics room creating pieces and developing a passion for art. One of my teachers, Mr. Luedke, encouraged me to pursue a Meg Schuessler career in art education and that’s what started me on my journey. When I graduated from the University of Wisconsin—Oshkosh, I wanted to be Ms. Bond when I “grew up.” It seems God planted that dream in my heart early on and here I am. (Bond was the long-time ceramics teacher who preceded Schuessler.)

Mrs. Lisa (Oakes) Uttech (’98) Choral Director and Fine Arts Instructor My favorite memories of WLHS include attending chapel for the first time and hearing the entire student body singing together. My most cherished memory of WLHS, however, is when the Lisa Uttech A Cappella Choir came to sing at the funeral of my youngest sister, who at the time was a recent WLHS alum. To me, that was the ultimate example of why WLHS exists — to guide students on their earthly journey toward our heavenly home. I was deeply impacted by my own high school and college choir directors, and I pray I will have a similar lasting impact on my students.

Mrs. Lisa (Festerling) Rouse (’02) English Instructor Going on Mission Trips to Mexico and Dominican Republic were life changing and shaped my personal drive to become a teacher. Teaching freshman Lisa Rouse English Foundations at WLHS feels like the perfect way to apply my previous experiences. The pandemic has created some additional learning obstacles for so many students. I have the privilege of nurturing some of the most fragile learners and I can’t wait to watch them grow. The incredible diversity at WLHS is beautiful. I know it makes our Father in heaven smile to see these young men and women living out love across differences that could divide.

Mrs. Angela (Priewe) Livingston (’05) English & Food Techniques Instructor I am excited to teach in both traditional studies (English and Composition) and in the practical arts (Food Techniques). I am thrilled to help encourage Angela Livingston students in college prep courses as well as vocational careers. My time with friends, teachers, athletics, and other extracurricular activities at WLHS were positive experiences. I especially appreciated the relationships with teachers — the love for their students is clearly evident and I am very excited to be a part of continuing that legacy.

Mr. Andrew Fink (‘15) Business Instructor

Meet Our New Teachers

My favorite teacher was Mr. Gottschalk. He showed me how intuitive and fun math could be. Even more, the study habits and problem-solving approaches I learned in his AP Calc BC class Andrew Fink made my college math classes a breeze. At Wisco, I feel so fulfilled that I have the privilege to invest my time and energy into the next generation of Christian leaders who I know, in turn, will let their Christian light shine.

Ms. Hannah Leverence (’16) Fine Arts Instructor It’s a huge blessing to be a teacher at WLHS. The students are so special and the environment, faculty, and staff are outstanding. My time at Wisco taught me academics and life skills. I learned how to Hannah Leverence respect others and how to feel comfortable saying you’re a Christian and living as one. I want to encourage and inspire students who love art to pursue their passion.

As a high school senior, I was unsure of what to do so I gave Martin Luther College a try. God seemed to have a plan since he gave me a reason to come back each semester. I have always had a love of history and teaching gives me a chance to delve into it every day.

Mrs. Morgan Lautz Math Instructor Throughout my life, I have loved helping people, especially children. My career developed into a math focus because I wanted to help kids tackle their fear of math. Wisco is such Morgan Lautz a special place to me. The school puts God first and I believe that is a monumental factor in the development of young people. I am excited to help bridge the gap between where students are and where they need to be as they progress through the math classes at WLHS.
