EDITOR IN CHIEF’S NOTE WANT TO GO TO MYKONOS? very week we strive to bring you interesting, meaningful content that you will enjoy because it's insightful, useful, provocative, funny, and appealing to the eye. This week is no exception. We may not always nail it on the head, but rest assured that we do our best every week, 52 weeks a year – rain or shine! A couple of weeks ago I was at home watching CNBC when I came across one of their regularly scheduled business shows that takes an in-depth look at a given industry, its economics, the top players, and how money is made. However, this time CNBC decided to take the viewers inside the $13 billion business of pleasure with an original business production called “Porn: Business of Pleasure.” Melissa Lee, one of CNBC's regular anchors, hosted a show where, as they put it to the viewers, “nothing is off limits when it comes to the controversial multi-billion dollar industry that aims to please but has been know to offend.” The CNBC show about the business of pleasure provided us, as explained by the network, with “an unprecedented behind-the-scenes look inside the multibillion dollar porn business, from the threats to its profitability to exclusive behind-the-scenes interviews with the industry's biggest stars to the one issue that could bring the adult industry to its knees.” A steamy business show right in the middle of summer. This gave me the idea that Wire Magazine should, at some point, take a look inside the business of gay porn. As luck would have it, the opportunity arose to write a cover story about a business making millions of dollars around the world through the eyes of larger than life Chi Chi LaRue. Some people like it, others hate it, but regardless of what you think, approve of, or completely disapprove of, the business is there and Wire Magazine chose to give you a look behind the scenes through the eyes of Chi Chi LaRue, the drag persona of Larry Paciotti, and one of the most recognizable names and faces in the gay porn industry. Chi Chi has directed hundreds of gay porn films and even ventured into straight porn for a period of time, but left because condoms are not always worn in straight porn videos. LaRue is a major supporter of safe sex and includes the self-directed video Safe Sex Is Hot Sex/Wrap It Up on every video he produces. Be sure to turn to page 10 for this week's cover story. On another note, Steele Luxury Travel, Wire Magazine's partner for weekly travel content, has put together an amazing vacation package to gorgeous Mykonos. The sexy island of Mykonos, Greece is well known for its beautiful open-air landscape and cosmopolitan nightlife and is considered by many to be “the ultimate gay destination.” Thousands of international travelers from around the world flock to Mykonos every year for an unforgettable summer experience. You could enjoy seven beautiful nights in Mykonos! Visit www.wireweekly.com/travel for more information about this unforgettable vacation opportunity and to receive your WIREMAG discount. ON THE GO TRAVEL: SWITZERLAND
SNOW WHITE BY DANE STEELE GREEN
DAILY GRIND
FEELING DIRTY
AND NOT IN A GOOD WAY
BY MICHAEL W. SASSER
f Americans chose to boycott Chick-fil-A because its name is an abortion of the English language then I might get onboard. But boycott because somewhere up the corporate chain, the company donated money to a group opposed to gay marriage? Huh? I'm going to boycott some place so some $8 an hour high school kid gets his hours cut and can't contribute to his college fund? I'm going to punish some brave businessman who bought into the company line and opened a couple of crappy chicken stands in this horrible economy?
onsider this installment of On the Go Travel as my little respite for you all from the pressure-cooker known as “August in Florida.” Picture it: sweeping mountains, titanium-white snows, a quaint Swiss Alps village…and naked guys. If this sounds like a breath of fresh air, or at least cool air, boy, are you in luck. Because I’ve just nutshelled the Arosa Gay Ski Week coming in January (6-13). Arosa, in the eastern section of Switzerland, throws the first of several gay ski events occurring throughout Europe’s 2013 ski season. Sitting at the top of an airily vast Swiss mountain valley (5,700 feet) overlooked by the majestic mountain majesty of the Weisshorn (8,000 feet), whether you like violating virgin powder from dawn to dusk, cruising along the winter paths for virgins of a different sort, or forgoing virgins of all strokes entirely to zen out to the snow crunching under your feet as you stroll through the village, Arosa caters to your every winter whim. The event itself is in its 9th year, but as beguiling as the slopes are, Arosa itself is worthy of a look-see, and organizers are quick to point out the town’s alpine “Silent Night" vibe: the classical concert at the village church is a recommended highlight, the gourmet dinner at the Tschuggen Grand Hotel is another, and who can resist a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the village with the drag-queens participating at the Drag Ski Race? — note that I did not say “traditional alpine 'Silent Night' vibe.” If beautiful boys bopping to the latest techno is more your style, have no fear: clubbing nights with world-class DJs, go-go dancers in decidedly un-alpine gear, and a pool party are also on the menu. Some nuts-and-bolts: Despite hosting one of Europe’s largest gay skiing bacchanals, Arosa is a snug sort of place, and to manage the 24-hour party people, attendees have to get passes, gold, silver, and regular, and the gold, of course, gets you in everywhere you want to go. That is in addition to ski lift passes. Arosa is so snug, in fact, it doesn’t have an airport; you have to fly into Zurich, and then take a breathtaking train ride through high-altitude vistas unparalleled anywhere else before you get to the really good stuff. Get all that squared away and you are good to go. For more information, go to www.arosa-gayskiweek.com/en. Steele Luxury Travel can help you book your flights to and hotels in Arosa. Yeah that will make me so proud. Because I am sure if I ducked in for a fried bird product that a 17 year-old was going to call me a "fag" or that a regional manager was gonna tell me that queers should all die. Sure. Boycotts make me feel dirty. They are anti-free market and rarely achieve any real result. That boycotts tend to hurt unintended targets is just one practical reason why they are silly. But what I really can't get over is this: Why is intolerance on our part acceptable at the same time, collectively, we demand tolerance of others? Because that's what it is. How is it that when the conservative public boycotts companies pandering for gay business, err, I mean gay-friendly mall retailers, that's evil -- but we can boycott someone we disagree with and feel all self-righteous. Is it because we're right and they're wrong? Maybe. But how does that not make us intolerant? We demand that society accept our lifestyles and culture but we express utter intolerance for people who don't. Being intolerant of the intolerant is not tolerance. It is two faces of the same evil. A pluralist society is supposed to tolerate a variety of perspectives. Boycotts to silence opposition is not a free exchange of ideas. It is the ultimate in intolerance, and in my mind it leaves participants no moral high ground upon which to stand. I don't care if a company funds an anti-gay marriage organization. It has the right. Other companies fund pro-gay marriage groups. Hell, some fund both. Yes, we have a right to boycott. But having a right to do something doesn't make it the right thing to do. And pandering politicians banning a fricking chicken stand. So it's ok for government to decide which legal businesses are permitted to open based on the social issue positions of some distant CEO? OK, so then it will be OK for Dallas to ban Abercrombie, Omaha to ban Planned Parenthood and Mississippi to ban Apple? That's ok, right? I mean, those who agree with boycotting Chicken Hut must agree or else they are utter hypocrites. Look, don't eat Chick-fil-A. Anyone's individual choice is just fine. But join a boycott? No thanks. I don't really feel like supporting intolerance in the name of tolerance; I don't make myself feel good by costing working class kids even a tiny share of their income; and I don't want to sit on the moral high horse if it’s balanced on a steaming pile of chicken crap.
LOOKING GOOD
RELAX—WORKING OUT AS STRESS RELIEF
ife is full of surprises, not all of them good. Life's little events can often cause stress, anxiety and a bad case of the blues. Unfortunately, we can't predict the future, but we can find ways to relieve stress in healthy ways. One of the best ways to work out the stress and pull yourself out of the dumps is to move your body by soothing yourself with exercise, instead of reaching for the wrong things to make us feel better like food, alcohol, sleep or drugs...most of which make us feel worse.
You can also soothe your mind with: a) Yoga. This is a great way to quiet your mind and relax your body. There are different ways to practice yoga--some vigorous and others relaxing. b) Pilates. While more vigorous than some types of yoga, Pilates forces you to concentrate on what your body is doing while helping you work on core strength, stability and flexibility. c) Meditation. The time and patience to relax can be tough, but meditation doesn't have to be complicated--simply stopping to breathe for a few minutes can be your own meditation. d) Laugh. Experts have long known the benefits of laughing--it helps your body in a multitude of ways but, mostly, it just feels good. e) Massage. Schedule a massage in the near future so you have something to look forward to. If that isn't an option, indulge at home with a hot bath or lounging around and reading your favorite book or magazine.

Think of activities you like but rarely allow yourself time to do, then commit to doing them as often as you can. Try these ideas for a little stress relief: a) Take baby steps: Thinking about 30 minutes of an activity may feel overwhelming when your energy is low. Decide you'll just do a few minutes of something. Chances are, you'll start to feel more energetic and will keep going. b) Keep it simple. Choose activities that require very little preparation like walking or some gentle stretching. c) Ask for support. It helps to have a workout buddy to keep you honest. Try to get a friend or family member to meet you once a week for a walk in the park or a local fitness class. d) Make the transition easier. If you tend to stay more sedentary when you feel blue, going from sitting to something active can seem like a big jump. Give yourself 5 or 10 minutes to get your body moving a bit before exercise. Take some time to stretch or simply walk around the house a bit. e) Give yourself ex-
BY KEN HUNT tra time to warm up. If you're doing a high intensity activity, give yourself more warm-up time than usual. If you usually start out jogging, start with a slow walk. Allow your body all the time it needs to get warm and allow your heart rate to climb gently. f) Give yourself extra time to cool down. It's always a good idea to end your workout feeling good. Give yourself a good ten minutes to wind down and then spend a few minutes stretching.

y first encounter with Chi Chi LaRue, the drag persona of Larry Paciotti, was at the Parliament House in Orlando many years ago. Chi Chi was in town to shoot a video. That night, Chi Chi made an appearance at a nightclub surrounded by some of her performers and the crowd followed. Then Chi Chi was a plus size diva with an oversize personality and a charming wit. Today Chi Chi is one of the most recognizable names and faces in the gay porn industry and, thanks to gastric bypass surgery, a thinner more beautiful version of her former self. Chi Chi LaRue, who now directs under her company Channel 1 Releasing, is also an international DJ and a brand name. Having worked as a director since 1988, LaRue has directed hundreds of gay porn films and even ventured into straight porn for a while but left because condoms are not always worn in straight videos. LaRue is a major supporter of safe sex and includes the self-directed video Safe Sex Is Hot Sex/Wrap It Up on every video. As a director, Chi Chi LaRue has won more than a handful of director awards including Adult Video News GayVN Award for Best Director five times. Chi Chi LaRue not only travels the globe as a successful DJ but also has her/his own adult boutique in West Hollywood called, of course, Chi Chi LaRue’s. At Chi Chi LaRue’s you can buy everything from Chi Chi LaRue directed DVDs to novelties, condoms, and lubricants, a one-stop shop for gay porn hopefuls or someone planning to screen one of Chi Chi’s current videos. Wire Magazine recently had the opportunity to chat with Chi Chi (pronounced "She She") about directing, fluffers, porn stars and safe sex.

"F@#K!": CHI CHI LARUE TALKS GAY PORN
"It takes a lot of people to make one of these f@#k flicks." - Chi Chi LaRue You’ve received a lot of awards for your work in the adult film industry. Which ones are you proudest? I'm the most proud when someone from one of my productions, cast or crew, wins an award. It takes a lot of people to make one of these f@#k flicks. How has the industry changed since you started in 1987? In every way, shape and form. Way too many things to talk about, it depresses me. But I will say that I'm still making some kick ass movies. That hasn't changed.
How was Chi Chi LaRue born? Formed from glitter, destined for porndom. Actually she was born in Minnesota at a little club called the Townhouse. Who is Chi Chi LaRue (the person behind the drag persona)? First off, the person behind Chi Chi LaRue, his name is Larry and I'm not much different sans wigs, lashes, and heels. My feet just feel better. When did you get involved with gay porn and why? I've been into porn since I was young. I got into the business 28 years ago. I love the glamour and the sex. What does it take to be a great director in the adult film industry? Patience, a strong stomach, and the ability to make diamonds out of dust bunnies. Oh, and you also need to have a filthy mind and I certainly have that.
How did the Chi Chi LaRue brand become so popular? How many different products carry the Chi Chi LaRue brand and how do you pick them? By me hauling my cookies all over the world and now I have a store, a toy line, apparel... watch out RuPaul. How long does it take to shoot an average video? It could take one day or it could take two weeks, it depends on the video. What’s the hardest part of a production day? I would say morning shoots. Everyone is trying to wake up, but once it gets rolling it usually goes pretty smooth. What’s the biggest misconception about gay porn actors? That they're gay.
In 2007, Out Magazine listed you as one of the Top 50 most What’s the most difficult part of di- influential people in the GLBT recting gay porn? community. Do you feel influenThe cleaning bill. Just kidding. It never re- tial? ally has been difficult for me. I've loved it the I'm pretty humble nowadays, but I'm hopwhole time. ing I've influenced people with my attitude towards safe sex, my recent sobriety, Are there really fluffers? and to paint a fierce mug. I absolutely hate this question and I don't even really want to dignify it with an answer, Cheers to you on your safe sex but no, there's not. campaign. Does your safe sex video appear on every gay porn title? I understand that you’ve discovered Safe Sex Is Hot Sex/Wrap It Up appears quite a few gay porn stars. What do on all titles from C1R.COM. It's pretty self you look for in a gay porn actor? explanatory, use a condom...for your peter's I always say if you have two out of the three... sake. face, body, dick. You're in. 11 | wire magazine | issue #31, 2012 | www.wireweekly.com | facebook | twitter
Has the internet helped or hurt the porn industry? I would say both, but I'm leaning towards hurt because of piracy. Let me say it here in the pages of Wire Magazine. DON'T STEAL PORN! Your dick may depend on it. Who are some of your favorite gay porn actors? Another question that has way too many answers, but as far as who I'm hot for right now, I would say Ty Roddick, Spencer Reed, Connor Maguire, and I think my all time classics...Francois Sagat, Wilfred Knight, and Johnny Hazzard. How did the documentary Sex Becomes Her come about? A porn actor turned producer, Clint Cooper, really wanted to do the documentary and he did it for a London based channel. And if I do say so myself it was quite good.
"F@#K!": CHI CHI LARUE TALKS GAY PORN Is it still available? It never was available because I never signed the model release because they really tried to f@#k me over. You’re no longer a plus size drag diva but a thin beauty. Can you share your steps to becoming thin and why you chose your methods? I had gastric bypass surgery three years ago. I tried every diet, this was the only way I was going to lose weight and take care of my health issues. I just had a physical this week and I'm perfect. But you knew that, didn't you. What’s the name of your favorite gay porn that you’ve directed and why? Wrong Side of The Tracks for C1R.com because it's a real movie. I would say I'm most proud of that. Tell me something about the gay porn industry that would shock most people. Here, stick your finger in this light socket and you tell me. That would shock most people. The reason I joke is because there's really nothing that shocking in the porn industry. There are amazing people and f@#ked up people. Just like real life. How many films can a gay porn star make? Where is the money for the actor? They can make as many as they want or as many as we want them in. Nowadays the real money comes from live appearances or if they have their website. It really takes a lot to be a porn STAR today. What’s the most enjoyable part of your job? Meeting the wonderful people who are in this crazy business. Some that I love, some that I hate, some that I wish I'd never see again and some that I'll be having dinner with later. This job has allowed me to become a world famous DJ while still enjoying directing the hottest men in the world. It also allows me down time to watch my Judge Judy.

Frrrozen Hot Chocolate
ast week I wrote about how the The Abs Diet cookbook can help you get in shape and follow a sensible diet. This week I am going to tell you how you can violate most of the rules in the cookbook and enjoy a truly decadent, dessertful dining experience on Miami Beach's Lincoln Road. Just don't make that a habit or your nice abs may either disappear or never appear at all. I was looking forward to trying Serendipity 3 for some of its most sinful menu alternatives - even though I have been sticking to my new sensible eating habits. What started in Manhattan’s upper east side in the 1950s as the go-to spot for whimsical food and never before seen desserts has come all the way down to Miami Beach to provide us with a full dining menu with over 50 dishes, extremely yummy desserts, and a full bar. Serendipity 3's menu is quite comprehensive so I decided to ask Ian Venters, our waiter, to recommend three must-tries to get us started and his advice was spot on.
Cake Martini

Thai Beef Salad
Casper Pizza
The Cake Martini, “Frrrozen Hot Chocolate,” and Crab Artichoke Dip are a must – you will be back for more! Some of Chef Ellis' many other delicious menu items include the likes of appetizers such as the Wagyu Kobe Beef Sliders, Chicken Satay Lettuce Wraps and Tropical Tuna Tacos; entrees that range from gourmet hand-tossed pizzas and towering burgers to a Florida Black Grouper with a panzanella salad; plus several “Sobe Fit” dishes perfect for the hot body conscious diners, or anyone who wants to save the calories for the larger-than-life desserts that include mouth watering cakes, loaded sundaes, and shakes and floats – all crafted to please your eye and palate. I couldn't help but use the “Frozzzen Hot Chocolate,” as a luscious example. It is a guarded secret of coco powders blended with ice and milk served in a classic ice cream shop goblet, topped with whipped cream and dark chocolate shavings. Maybe two examples... The “Cake” Martini is made with cake infused Vodka and layered with sweetened shaken cream, rainbow sprinkles and garnished with skewered, very moist, cubed cake. Yummy! And for those of you who don't know, serendipity means “the art of finding the pleasantly unexpected by chance or sagacity!” Touché!

very now and then we hear someone throw the word “soul” out there. They might be talking about a person, a place, food or a dozen other things. Whatever the case, it’s safe to say they’re referring to its deepest and purest form; the part that makes it unique. The same can be said about music. With roots stemming back to R&B and gospel of the 1950s, soul is still one of the oldest and most popular music genres in the world; one that has been inspiring singer/songwriter Joss Stone her entire life. Ever since her debut album, The Soul Sessions, I’ve had an (almost) decade-long love affair with the British belle. The power and honesty of her voice defy all expectations and can disintegrate racial and cultural stereotypes with just one note. Whether she’s belting out an original track or delivering classic covers by the legends themselves, it’s easy to see her love and respect for the genre clearly outweigh her years. Now on her sixth studio album, The Soul Sessions Vol. 2, Joss has reunited with original Soul Sessions producer, Steve Greenberg, to breathe new life into another set of obscure classics by soul icons like Chi-Lites, The Dells, The Honey Cone and more. When describing the experience of going back in the studio with Greenberg, the Grammy-winner said in a press release: "I really had fun revisiting The Soul Sessions idea and I'm really pleased with the results. I think there are some great songs on the album and I loved performing them with such brilliant musicians." Brilliant indeed! Unlike a bad horror movie, you don’t have to know the original to appreciate the sequel. For hard-core soul fans, Joss’s covers pay homage to their predecessors without straying too far from their original versions. For those who just enjoy a good Joss Stone jam and have never heard any of these tracks before (like me), it’s still a sweet listen. Some of my faves are the clever “While You’re Out Lookin’ For Sugar,” “Stoned Out Of My Mind” and the bittersweet “The Love We Had (Stays On My Mind).” Joss's breakthrough debut brought a whole new sound to pop music back in 2003. The album went multi-Platinum, peaked at #4 on the UK Charts, #39 on the Billboard 200 and gave us two Top 20 UK Singles--"Fell in Love with a Boy" and "Super Duper Love." 2004's follow up, Mind Body & Soul, was even bigger, debuting at #1 in the UK and #11 on the Billboard 200. Now with her long-awaited re-up with Greenberg, the 25-year-old Stone is sounding better than ever. Since none of these 11 new tracks features a pulsating baseline or a rap breakdown by Nicki or Pitbull, we probably won’t be hearing any of them on US radio anytime soon. But we’ll definitely have something to inject a little more soul into our own reunions with friends or the occasional glass of wine at home. Do yourself a favor and spring for the deluxe edition, which gives you four more reasons to love this soulful diva. Cast: Ben Stiller Vince Vaughn Jonah Hill Richard Ayoade Rosemarie DeWitt Will Forte Mel Rodriguez Doug Jones Erin Moriarty Nicholas Braun came, I saw, I laughed, and then I forgot it. That’s how you have to tackle Ben Stiller’s newest film The Watch. You go for the few big laughs, chuckle at the smaller ones, and forget about the superficial plot. This one is far from Stiller’s best, certainly not in the league of the Museum films. Really, the true joy in the film is watching the four main characters (Stiller, Vaughn, Hill, and Avoade) interact. They are obviously friends in real life, having a great time making a film together. It’s sad that it doesn’t all work the way they thought it would.
draft it a few more times before the cameras started rolling. I fault director Akiva Schaffer with the result, because even though the interchanges between actors (Stiller & Vaughn for example) are sharp and fast and work well, the overall timing of the film needed work, it’s too stilted to maintain the comedic level it struggles to rise to. There are too many starts and stops in the forward motion to really get into the action. As with all these stupid and insipid films, there is some inspired humor at work here to save the film from being an exercise in ‘time-suck’. The performers, most comedy film veterans, do the best with what they have to work with. I particularly enjoyed Jonah Hill, who is having a blast here as the misunderstood, brain deficit, pseudo bad boy, trying to look worse with a flipping knife. I should also mention Richard Avoade whose character is a study of uncomfortable, bumbling, and distracted loser.
Here’s the story line: Stiller, the manager of a small town Costco Store somewhere in Ohio, returns to open his store one morning only to find his friend the night watchman dead, sans skin. He forms a Neighborhood Watch Group with three other mundane losers to solve and avenge the murder. When they accidentally discover that their town has become overrun with aliens posing as ordinary suburbanites, they have no choice but to If you’re looking for a quick laugh or two, save their neighborhood (and the world) and you don’t mind waiting for them, or from alien extermination. if watching Stiller and Vaughn act dumb does it for you, then this is your film. If A less than brilliant concept, that could you don’t like either option, wait for the have used a comic writer or two to re- DVD release. The Watch - Rating: 2-1/2 Stars (out of 5) • R (for some strong sexual content including references, pervasive language and violent images.)
