4TH ANNUAL SUMMERFEST IS HERE! It’s been four years in the making but the 4th Annual SummerFest Weekend has finally arrived! For years, Miami Beach has had a reputation as a seasonal town with nothing to do throughout the sweltering summer months, and for all practical purposes there really wasn’t anything special taking place during the summer. A little over four years ago, while working with a number of local non-profit organizations, I had the idea to create a collage of events that would serve as Miami Beach’s only gay weekend event of summer. Working closely with all of Miami Beach’s seven-day-a-week gay bars, I created and produced the first SummerFest Weekend, as a benefit for the South Beach AIDS Project. The weekend kicked off with a fabulous rooftop soiree and fashion show at The Catalina Hotel, which included delicious drinks and even more delicious models, sporting the latest fashions by Rock Star Swimwear. The success of the night was only topped by the highlight of the weekend, The SummerFest Pool Party at The Hotel Victor. Local hotties filled the pool of one of SoBe’s most opulent venues to move to the beats of DJ Charlie Rojas and Miik, not to mention enjoy the two free cocktails that we have always provided during the pool party!
It’s been four years since then, and SummerFest has only gotten bigger, better, and even sexier. The caliber of new events has increased in a major way, while our mainstay parties has continued to be the foundation of what makes SummerFest so great. This year, SummerFest is set to provide South Florida with another incredible weekend of events, cocktails, and gorgeous partygoers! The festivities will kick off on Friday night at MOVA with Summer Twilight. This will be your last chance to get tickets to the SummerFest Pool Party and Summer Storm dance event at the pre-sale ticket prices. Better yet, every person who purchases a ticket to the SummerFest Pool Party – or shows their ticket – will get one free Finlandia vodka cocktail, courtesy of MOVA. And since every SummerFest Pool Party ticket already comes with two free Chambord Vodka cocktails at the pool party, this means ticket holders will get a total of THREE FREE DRINKS WITH THE PURCHASE OF A TICKET! With the general admission ticket only costing $25, the ticket pretty much pays for itself and then some! The following day will be the MAIN EVENT – the SummerFest Pool Party. This year, we have upped the ante by moving this party to the opulent pools of The Shoreclub Hotel, which is known as one of the hottest places in SoBe to spot your favorite celebs!
During the party, VIPs will gain access to the exclusive Shore Club Hotel Beach House, where they will get the official SummerFest ’11 CD by DJ Charlie Rojas, as well as their own private bathroom, bartenders, and more drink options – not to mention the opportunity to party it up in one of the most expensive hotel suites in town! Later that night, it will be all about the music as DJ Rafael Calvente from Brazil hops on the wheels of steel for a night of high energy beasts, gorgeous boys, and stiff cocktails. On Sunday, The Lords South Beach will provide SummerFest revelers with just enough sustenance to keep the party going. Brunch attendees will enjoy a delicious menu paired with two free cocktails. DJ George Figares will be working the turntables, while partygoers enjoy delicious cocktails, nearly naked beach goers, and of course some of the most scandalous drag shows in South Florida! It was such a fun night! The show reminded me that the music of ABBA never gets old, and all of it in Mamma Mia! is about life - sometimes uplifting and happy, and sometimes about the tough realities of life. Nevertheless, enjoying this show was a great way to sing and dance to such lively music, after a long stretch of sleepless nights working on the planning and execution of this weekend SummerFest festivities. The Broadway musical and the movie never get old for me – just like life! They both bring back wonderful memories of my mom and dad listening to ABBA and having fun with their friends dancing till almost sunrise many a party night during the great times my parents had together before my dad passed away. Life can be shortened when you least expect it - since it is not up to
us to decide when the clock stops ticking.

Luckily that all changed four years ago with the arrival of SummerFest. Last year, over 1,000 people participated in the weekend’s festivities, imbibing on complimentary cocktails, moving to the beats of international DJs, and enjoying incredible shows by world-renowned entertainers – all while supporting the largest LGBT rights organization in the country, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force. From Friday, July 22, to Sunday, July 24, 2011 the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force -- producers of Miami’s largest LGBT weekend event, Winter Party Festival -- and Pink Dollar Enterprises will partner to create a fantastic weekend of stiff cocktails, over-the-top entertainment, and sexy fashions during the 4th Annual SummerFest Weekend.

WIRED ON: MENTAL HEALTH SEXUAL DYSFUNCTION IN MEN Three (3) of the most common types of sexual dysfunction found in men are: impotence, premature ejaculation, and inability to reach orgasm. These conditions occur in both gay and straight men, and happen for a variety of reasons. ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION It is estimated that more than 50% of men over age 40 in the U.S. have erectile dysfunction (ED), also known as impotence. A man with ED is unable to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse. Healthy men achieve an erection because they have a normal penis, with intact nerves and proper blood flow, and properly circulating hormones. When they experience an arousing stimulus, the brain sends a signal, carried by neuro-transmitters (chemical stimuli), that causes the tissue in the penis (corpora cavernosa) to fill with blood and become erect. In men with ED, one of these elements fails and the erectile reflex is impaired. Almost all men experience ED at some point during their lives. It may be a lifelong condition (in which a man has never had an erection) or acquired (in which a man has had erections in the past but is no longer able to have them). Acquired ED may be situational (occurring only in certain situations) or generalized (occurring in all situations). It may happen during foreplay, during intercourse, or only with certain partners. Physical causes: In some men, ED is caused by decreased blood flow to the penis during normal aging. Smooth muscle is replaced by tissue that can’t expand enough to achieve or maintain an erection. Psychological causes: Some experts say that over 80% of ED is caused by psychological factors. In fact, the most common cause of ED is performance anxiety. This can happen when a man has failed to achieve or maintain an erection in the past and becomes anxious when he feels pressured to achieve an erection at a later time. Being anxious prevents him from achieving an erection; a cycle of anxiety and failure results. Gay and bisexual men who are uncomfortable with their sexual orientation, or coming out of the closet, may experience performance anxiety. What Is the Treatment for ED? Sex therapy: This type of treatment is needed for many men whose ED is caused by psychological problems such as anxiety or stress. A certified Sex Therapist uses psychoeducation and reconditioning to help individuals and couples learn how to pleasure themselves and one another. Medications: Viagra, Levitra, and other medications are very effective for about half of all men with ED. However, as men age, the loss of muscle in the penis means that oral medications lose their effectiveness. For these men, penile injections are needed; for others, penile implants solve the problem. PREMATURE EJACULATION Premature ejaculation (PE) is the inability to delay ejaculation to a moment that pleases both partners. The actual timing is up to the preference of the two partners. The factor that determines a diagnosis of PE is whether the couple is satisfied with the length of intercourse before ejaculation occurs. PE is a very common problem, especially among young men with little sexual experience, gay men who are just coming out of the closet, or men who have not had sex for a long time. Its cause is uncertain, but it is thought to be a psychological problem. As a young man gains more sexual experience, he usually develops greater control over orgasm and no longer experiences PE. However, some men remain anxious about sex and are troubled by PE for a longer time. There are several treatments, including the squeeze technique; special creams that minimize the sensations that a man feels during intercourse; condoms, which also lessen the level of stimulation and arousal; and trying different sexual positions. MALE ORGASMIC DISORDER Male orgasmic disorder occurs when a man is unable to have an orgasm and ejaculate in the way he would like to. Like the other sexual dysfunctions, it can be either life-long or acquired, and is either generalized or situational. The lifelong form of this disorder is very rare; the acquired form is more common and is usually the result of psychological factors— for example, a very strict, religious background, a homophobic upbringing, or a high need to be in control. The treatment is to gradually desensitize the man to the factors that keep him from experiencing ejaculation. In the State of Florida, only a board-certified Sex Therapist who has undergone extensive training and supervision is legally permitted to engage in the practice of sex therapy. Sexual problems may be due to emotional factors, medical conditions, or both, and treatment of these problems should be addressed only by a qualified professional.
