PUBLISHER'S CORNER THIS WEEK I AM REALLY PISSED-OFF This week I am pissed-off and I want to share my outrage with all of you. The "executive team" and the "board of directors" of World OutGames Miami cancelled the opening and closing ceremonies and most of the sports programming the day before the start of the games – while many athletes were on planes on their way to Miami. The name of our beloved city has been dragged through the mud internationally because a select few completely violated our community's trust and ignored their fiduciary and legal responsibility to deliver what they promised and contractually agreed to provide to the athletes, donors, sponsors, our city, the taxpayers and our LGBTQ community. Shame on you! This is both disgusting and disgraceful. We should all stand up loud and clear and denounce that the use of prominent positions in a non-profit to travel around the world "promoting the games," while failing to do your job and actually deliver the events you told everyone you would hold will not be tolerated. I refuse to stand silent and make excuses for these people. No one can understand where hundreds of thousands of dollars for the games went. Take 2,500 to 3,000 athletes paying registration fees, add to that $200,000 from the city of Miami Beach, plus all the donors' money outlined in the beginning of the World OutGames Miami program book and the money paid by sponsors, and you can see that hundreds of thousands of dollars were available for the games, yet the following message is still posted on their website while I write my Publisher's Corner this week: "It is with deep regret that due to financial challenges, World OutGames must cancel opening and closing ceremonies and sports programming with the exception of aquatics, country western dance and soccer... We thank everyone who has supported the effort and apologize to those who will be impacted by this difficult decision." Nonsense! There were no financial difficulties when OutGames Miami CEO Ivan Cano was traveling around the world "promoting the games" and posting photos on his personal Facebook page with a big smile on his face. Under Florida Statute 817.034, a "scheme to defraud" means a systematic, ongoing course of conduct with intent to defraud one or more persons, or with intent to obtain property from one or more persons by false or fraudulent pretenses, representations, or promises or willful misrepresentations of a future act. "Property" means anything of value – which money definitely is. I have been in business for a long time and have seen it all. I know what it takes to manage an enterprise. What happened with the OutGames Miami MUST NOT be swept under the rug and forgotten. I am glad the Miami Beach Police Department and the State Attorney's Office have launched a fraud investigation of this debacle. I call upon the mayors of Miami Beach and Miami, all the commissioners, the Miami Beach police chief and the state's attorney to conduct an exhaustive investigation and audit of where all the money went, file any charges they deem appropriate and release a full report about their findings to the public. The athletes, donors, sponsors, city taxpayers and the LGBTQ community worldwide deserve to get the answers that World OutGames Miami Chief Executive Officer Ivan Cano, Chief Operating Officer Keith Hart and the members of the board of directors have failed to provide. With fancy professional titles, compensation and spending budgets of other people's money also comes fiduciary and legal responsibility.

JINKX MONSOON: Michael Bustamante: How did you become involved with Ultimate Miami Drag Queen? Jinkx Monsoon: They booked me. I'll go to the opening of an envelope, if it pays. MB: What advice do you have for the Ultimate Miami Drag Queen finalists? JM: Take feedback, fight your demons and stay true to yourself. MB: Tell us about some of your most memorable experiences in Miami. JM: I have had amazing times in Wilton Manors and doing the opening parties for the first few Drag Cruises with Al and Chuck. I haven't even been to the beach yet! Far too much sun for this Seattle witch.
MB: What do you think you would be doing, career-wise, if you were not a performer? JM: I can't imagine that world. This is my destiny. In another life, I might have been a teacher in classical literature. MB: Where do you see Jinkx in five years? JM: I see myself continuing touring with my shows, maybe doing voice-over work, having a web show or podcast. I will always perform, but my wildest "In five years‌" dream would be on Broadway in a Steven Sondheim production. MB: Is there anything else you would like to share with Wire Magazine readers? JM: I want people reading this to celebrate drag and celebrate our individuality in our community. In these times, we need to overpower the hatred with our art and fierce compassion.
MB: How has your drag evolved since winning RuPaul's Drag Race? JM: Drag, like any art form, should constantly be evolving. I would have evolved with or without Drag Race, but the show and the spotlight that follows pushes you to blossom in your own way and quickly. My Drag Race sisters push me by being creative around me when we gig together. They know things I don't and vice versa. We evolve together. We share our strengths together. MB: What do you think of the girls this season on RuPaul's Drag Race? Which one is your favorite? JM: I am loving it. I can't pick a favorite. I really enjoyed Valentina's contribution and Sasha definitely has my attention. MB: What projects are you currently working on? JM: My sophomore album is on the verge of being released, The Ginger Snapped. It is different from my last album and more boisterous, irreverent and unique! I am deeply in love with it and I hope people see the work and love it like I do. It's almost entirely original music by myself and Major Scales.
I have my show all summer in Provincetown named after my album, The Ginger Snapped. I will also be joining Peaches Christ and Major Scales in our Grey Gardens show, which is coming back to Provincetown. It's going to be an amazing summer; I encourage people to come out and see that beautiful town.

SHARON NEEDLES: Michael Bustamante: How did you become involved with Ultimate Miami Drag Queen? Sharon Needles: Honestly, I have no idea! I am far too stupid to coordinate my tours myself! Like Amanda Lepore says, "I just show up all dolled up, dance to my thing, get paid and I'm out!" MB: What advice do you have for the Ultimate Miami Drag Queen finalists? SN: Be entertaining, be unique, and pay me off to win! MB: Tell us about some of your most memorable experiences in Miami. SN: Well there was that one time I thought I had AIDS, and my roommate forced me to drink only out of the mugs marked with an "R." Oh, wait, that was a Golden Girls episode‌ MB: Which queen is your favorite this season of RuPaul's Drag Race, and why? SN: Trinity the Tuck Taylor. She's got it all! She's pretty, but in an alien way, she loves plastic surgery and her fashion choices are a mix of high fashion and questionable dancer costumes. And she's funny! Oh, and mean! MB: What did you think of the roast of Michelle Visage? I can't help but feel it was inspired by your snatch game impersonation. SN: I'm telling you, I invented the "I hate green" storyboard! MB: Which classic movie star, if any, have you found inspiring? SN: From Judy Garland to Vincent Price. If you can do your job, and do it well drunk, you're my hero.
MB: What projects are you currently working on? SN: My third record is only a few months from its release. It's my darkest sound yet! And of course, touring the world, cause they don't get sick of me... fools! MB: Is there anything else you would like to share with Wire Magazine readers? SN: I can't wait to be in sunny Miami. And I hope Rubber Child brings me drugs!

elcome to Smalltown, USGay.

I'll admit, New Hope is an unlikely LGBTQ destination, but "unlikely" still counts. About 40 miles north-ish of Philadelphia, this little town of 2,500 on the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware River is actually one of the biggest gay draws between New York and Rehoboth Beach. When did it happen? Who knows? How did it happen? Who cares? New Hope proves that little towns in the countryside aren't hotbeds of homophobia. Quite the opposite, in fact.
small-town, country retreat with all the gay comforts of home. You can catch a performance at the Bucks County Playhouse where Grace Kelly and Liza Minnelli performed. Or maybe get some fresh air at Bowman's Hill Wildflower Reserve. And of course there is Marsha Brown, a savory Cajun cookery. I hear the Halloween ghost tours ain't shabby, either. In other words, I am not recommending some remote outpost that just so happens to be gay-friendly. And outside of town is the rest of Bucks County. Aside from being a favorite setting for any number of M. Night Shyamalan films (please don't hold that against the county), Bucks is one of several regions in southeastern Pennsylvania discovering its potential for wine. The Bucks County Wine Trail counts nine wineries, which are just enough to get you tipsy but not so much to completely plaster you. It will take up a day at the very least, and is the very essence of country living.
The town (village?) has its own weeklong Pride Festival (in May) and not one, not two, but three gay accommodations. An icon in these parts, the pool and cabana of the Raven Resort is your go-to for all things gay and social in New Hope, and they have supplemented their 10 rooms with another 28 at an additional sister property, the New Hope Lodge. Finally, there is the Wishing Well Guesthouse, whose hospitality made it as far as OUT Magazine. As an FYI, across the Delaware River is equally idyllic Lambertville, NJ, and the two towns often But a circuit party it is not. New Hope is where work in tandem, particularly when it comes to gays from both The Big Apple and The City of LGBTQ goings-on. There's a bridge linking the Brotherly Love go to get away from the parties, two, and it is a nice walk. TOP TRAX By DJ FR8-O
ONE BAND, FIVE DIRECTIONS t's been almost a year and a half since the international phenomenon known as One Direction hit pause on their collective careers to chase down separate solo projects. This is nothing new for boy bands, but it usually signals the beginning of the end. Before their hiatus even started, one band mate officially called it quits while the rest kept releasing solo material and showing no signs of a reunion anytime soon. Three members in particular – Harry, Niall & Liam – recently released their latest projects within a few days of each other; and unlike the brain-numbing girl-nip that they used to pump across the airwaves, they're pretty good. Zayn Malik was the first member to cut the cord and fly solo under the moniker ZAYN, releasing his debut album, Mind of Mine, in March of 2016. Rather than ride the coattails of his former life, ZAYN shed his boy band persona for a darker, grittier version of himself. Laced with elements of R&B, slow jams and electronica, the collection marked Zayn's official declaration of independence. He was last seen collaborating with Taylor Swift on the sultry "I Don't Wanna Live Forever," off the 50 Shades Darker Soundtrack.
The best part about a boy band break-up is hearing each member's true voices once they've been unleashed from the chains of the pop machine. That's when you find out where the real talent lies. Niall Horan didn't make his solo debut until last September, but it was worth the wait. He stepped into the one-man spotlight with the gorgeous acoustic ballad "This Town,"
which cracked the Top 10 UK Singles Chart. His new follow-up "Slow Hands" dropped in early May and continues to highlight Horan's flair for the acoustic. Not all of 1D's band mates rushed to sign their own record deals. What most people don't know is that other than singing and songwriting credits, Liam Payne also has a few production credits under his belt. Besides producing remixes for his band under the alias "Payno," the 23-year-old has worked from the other side of the mixing board with the likes Juicy J, Miguel and Pharrell Williams. His first solo track "Strip That Down" (feat. Quavo) dropped May 19, taking us back to the club with a mid-tempo urban vibe that will no doubt be one of this summer's biggest anthems. Probably the biggest solo triumph of all (ironically) comes from the baby of the band, Harry Styles. As if channeling a post-Take That Robbie Williams, the 23-year-old gets serious on his full-length self-titled debut. The first single "Sign of the Times" is a rock ballad reminiscent of Williams' "Angels" with a touch of David Bowie thrown in for kicks. The other nine tracks seem to pull their inspiration from Hall of Fame legends like The Beatles, Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones while still showcasing Harry's own unique personality. For being the youngest of the original five, it looks like Styles – much like Justin Timberlake – will be the one singing the story of his life, long after his band mates have lost their direction.

Setting his GPS for a very different route, band mate Louis Tomlinson chose to try his hand at some of his other interests. During his free time, he has opened his own record label, joined a soccer team, laid down vocals for Steve Aoki's record-breaking track "Just Hold On," and was a guest judge on X Factor – the show that launched his career in 2010. Oh yeah, he also found time to start a girl band called Did Alice Call with the help of his X Factor buddy Simon Cowell. How's that for multi-tasking?
