From the events early in the week, to the Pride VIP Gala, the Pride Festivals on Saturday and Sunday, and the Pride Parade, everyone had a wonderful time while standing up for equality and gay rights.

The 10th anniversary Miami Beach Gay Pride celebrated how far our nation and our City have come in the struggle for LGBTQ equal rights.

It also reminded us that we must remain both proud and vigilant against any attempts to bring back discrimination and roll back the hard earned equal rights so many LGBTQ activists and our allies have fought very hard for over the years.

It is always beautiful to see thousands of people from all walks of life celebrating proudly during Miami Beach Gay Pride. Faces young and old smiled and enjoyed themselves during all the 10th anniversary Pride festivities. Ten years was a very important milestone to celebrate with a week's worth of events culminating in the always super popular Sunday Pride Parade and Festival, led by the dynamic duo of Grand Marshals Olympic silver medalist Gus Kenworthy and NBC 6 anchor and host Roxanne Vargas. Gus told Wire Magazine that "I think it's important to celebrate Pride because for so long, and still today in many parts of the world, LGBTQ people have been forced to live in fear for their safety and being 'out' and 'proud' weren't even options."

Roxanne Vargas reinforced the importance of LGBTQ advocacy by allies who support our community and stand proud shoulder to shoulder with us to celebrate our lives and our rights. Roxanne shared with Wire Magazine that "Showing up makes such a great impact. It says I'm here, I see you, I support you, I stand with you." I wholeheartedly agree and want to thank Roxanne for her passionate support of our LGBTQ community. To top it all off, Grammy Award winner disco, soul and R&B singer Thelma Houston, and Grammy-nominated singer Taylor Dayne sang their hearts out live on South Beach as thousands of revelers enjoyed their music, followed by the fireworks show closing out the 10th anniversary Miami Beach Gay Pride.

Miami Beach Gay Pride has indeed come a long way since its inception ten years ago. Besides thousands of participants, it also included over 125 LGBTQ-friendly vendors and businesses, national and local celebrities, and great musical performances. Miami Beach Gay Pride has grown from a local event to a major Gay Pride festival recognized around the world – which has included celebrities such as Gus Kenworthy, Ross Mathews, Bebe Rexha, Mario Lopez, Elvis Duran, Iggy Azalea, Jordin Sparks, Gloria Estefan and Adam Lambert.

This dazzling acrobatic show brought by event promoter PopArt will bring an exciting acrobatic Cirque production inspired by no other than Soda Stereo, the popular rock band from Buenos Aires, Argentina created back in 1982 by Gustavo Cerati, Zeta Bosio, and Charly Alberti. Michael Bustamante: What is Soda Stereo Sep7imo Día about?

Sean McKeown: Sep7imo Día is a show that takes the audience on a journey of what might have happened next with Soda Stereo's music.

It takes us to another planet, to another world, to another place that celebrates their amazing music. The audience is able to enter through the eyes of the principal character, into a world where there's a lot of magnificent people doing amazing and incredible things. It's also a world where things are not quite how they are on this planet, so it's a little bit of an out of planet escape for the audience with a lot of celebration along the way. The show is a big celebration!

MB: How does Soda Stereo Sep7imo Día differ from previous Cirque productions that our readers may have seen in South Florida?

SM: Every time Cirque sets out to do a new show, it sets out to reinvent itself, so all of our shows are unique. This one is extremely unique in that it incorporates a lot of original acts that have never been seen before on a stage, or in the staging by Cirque du Soleil. It is also led by the beautiful music and poetry of Soda Stereo, which is so iconic and popular. It is more unique in that the audience gets to get very up-closeand-personal with what's happening onstage because a lot of the numbers and acrobatics actually happen in and around the audience.

This is the first time that Cirque has a show in an arena where we actually integrate with the audience so closely. Another incredible thing is that people can come along and still see the amazing acrobatics that Cirque is famous for, and also listen to the music of Soda Stereo on a level you would at a rock concert. This is the rock concert of the future for Soda Stereo, and if the audience joins in for that ride, they're going to have a fantastic time! #15 2018 WIREMAG.COM 9

MB: Describe the show in 3 words.

SM: Stunning, poetic and avant-garde.

MB: What is special about this Cirque du Soleil show?

SM: What makes the show special is that the audience on the entire arena floor are actually on their feet. It gives us a chance for the show to actually pass through the audience.

We move huge objects through the audience with artists performing above them, which brings some reference to the architectural nature of the city of Buenos Aires, and the place where Soda Stereo created the music.

It also gives us a chance to bring the audience up close and personal with the artists, and to bring in a really integrated sense to everybody so it's one big party, one big celebration – everybody all together having a great time.

MB: What is your favorite act in Soda Stereo Sep7imo Día, and why?

SM: That's kind of like asking a father which is his favorite child. It's a very difficult question to answer. The honest answer is that it changes day by day depending on my mood, and I think the audience probably experiences the same. The mood you enter with is very important, so we invite everybody to come along, open their minds, open their hearts and come on this beautiful journey with us with the amazing music of Soda Stereo, and the talents of Cirque du Soleil.

MB: Is there anything else you would like to share with Wire Magazine readers?

SM: The only other thing I would like to share is that we have something in the show for everybody. It's a very beautiful show and you don't have to be a fan of Soda Stereo to really enjoy it – it's Cirque reinvented again.

Every time we come out, we're always reinventing ourselves and this show is no exception. In fact, we have some amazing acts, and original acts that are not seen at other shows anywhere else in the world. So, the audience can come along on this amazing ride with us. DESTINATIONS

AUSTIN STILL WEIRD AFTER ALL THESE YEARS hen one thinks Texas, one probably first thinks of the Dallas-Ft. Worth metro. Or the massive megaplex that is Houston. History buffs might gravitate toward San Antonio; or watersports and fishing enthusiasts might focus on Galveston and the coast. Even the remote western side of the state offers desert Mars-scapes that can enchant photographers.

But there is more to sprawl and drawl in Texas. One needs look no further than the state capital, Austin, where they've been keeping it weird for decades now. One of the first thing visitors notice is Austin's embrace of alternative cultures – commonly emblazoned about town on t-shirts and bumper stickers that read: "Keep Austin Weird." Austin is also marketed as the "Live Music Capital of the World" due to the large number of venues and "Silicon Hills" reflecting the many technology companies.

While the weird fosters a fun and more liberal environment than most of Texas, it's the live music that makes the state capital appealing to most travelers. Venues range across the city in a density seen in few other places in the world. It starts at Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater (ACL Live), a state-of-the-art, 2,750-person capacity live music venue that hosts approximately 100 concerts a year. It serves as the permanent home for the taping of the acclaimed KLRU-TV produced PBS series, Austin City Limits, the longest running music series in American television history. The Broken Spoke, known as "the last true Texas dance hall," features great country acts. Austin has earned five stars and is an elegant address for your stay. But InterContinental Stephen F. Austin is less costly and within walking distance of Austin City Limits. On a short stay, a well researched hotel can cut down on your transportation needs. A longer stay and seeing more of the handsome city is going to take some travel.

While most of Texas is deep red conservative, Austin is notably more liberal. While there are few bars and clubs that promote themselves as specifically gay, that's because the younger people who power Austin's nightlife are, like many younger people, less into labels and exclusivity than were their parents. With respectful behavior, gay travelers are going to be treated like any others to Austin – with a welcome and howdy.

Music venues of all stripes, eclectic shopping and dining that elevates typical Texan (do try Stubb's Bar-B-Q) incorporating into a burgeoning foodie scene (Uchi for Japanese, Chez Nous for European, among countless other options) aren't the city's only attractions. Austin has beautiful weather, the city is green and has focused on environmental advancements in recent years. Parks abound, water sports are plentiful on bodies of water, biking is extremely popular and nature areas outside of town such as Westcave Outdoor Discovery Center are sights to behold.

With its focus squarely on live music and weird, it should be no surprise that festivals are highly anticipated in Austin. The SXSW Music Film Interactive event is globally famous for its multimedia components – from music to film to shorts; it is a kind-of youthful Sundance with an emphasis on production values. More than 100 bands typically participate in the Austin City Limits Festival. For something different, at the end of October, located just south of Austin, the USA Formula 1 Grand Prix is held each year.

The newly built race track and venue for the event, the Circuit of the Americas, holds nearly 120,000 screaming fans.

Austin offers such diversity of attractions, it is hard to edit down an itinerary for just a couple of days. History and art are incorporated into the distinct Austin culture, while at the same time expressing some wonderfully prototypical Texan experiences.

There's no doubt that gentrification, growth and success have altered Austin over the past decade. Fortunately that hasn't stripped it of its identity or it's pride. Sure, it's buttoned up a little bit, but Austin is still weird – and delightful – after all these years.
