After a remarkably short period of time organizing the effort, the Equality Florida Institute and six same-sex couples are taking Florida's gay marriage ban to court. It was just months ago that Equality Florida and a coalition of other LGBT and human-rights groups collectively decided that the issue would face a better fate in the hands of the courts than it would in the hands of the largely conservative Florida Legislature. Subsequently, Equality Florida, the state's estimable rights organization, actively sought out potential plaintiffs who are denied the right to marry because of state laws.
