This section asks industry suppliers to explain why what they have to offer for customers is “The best of.” That claim could be for a product that represents the best price or the best quality, but part of the equation has to be what else a company has to offer customers. What makes them a good potential partner. Here, suppliers of reels and spools discuss why they are an ideal choice for customers, and a few also provide further information in the Products section.

Italy’s A. Appiani Srl (Appiani), represented in North America by AITMAC Inc., is a global supplier of industrial steel reels with customers in every continent. It manufactures to international standards including DIN specifications and imperial standards. Appiani has been manufacturing steel reels and accessory reel products for more than 61 years with Managing Director Marco Appiani today at the helm of its plant in Manerbio, Brescia. It covers some 8,000 sq m of manufacturing space and carries ISO certification. Appiani has expanded and continues to upgrade to continue its standing as a leading global supplier in this field. It has invested in modern CNC machinery and semi/fully automated welding equipment that ensures higher quality standards and containing costs. The result is that Appiani can provide the industry with a wide range of process and shipping reels together with accessories such as pallets for reel storage, steel baskets for steel and copper wire, various reel lifters and a variety of different coil lifters. Appiani also manufactures B-Type Reel reconditioning (also known as re-flanging) machinery for steel cord spools (B-type reels/ B-40, B-60, B-80). Due to assembly design and material composition, B-type spools may encounter an outward flex of the flanges during regular use. By re-flanging, such flanges re bent back to their original alignment in relation to the barrel. Such machines have been successfully supplied to users of B-type spools in the wire and cable industry. American companies interested in Appiani products can contact Allan Brown, AITMAC Inc., tel. 905-761-6165, allan.aitmac.ca@gmail.com, for more details

2023 brings Ace Metal Inc. to its 77th anniversary. We appreciate the support from all of our customers to allow us to succeed for this length of time, and look forward to many more years serving the industry. Looking back, Ace Metal has worked hard to build an excellent manufacturing reputation, and that legacy of being a dependable supplier has carried over and continues to drive our operations. It’s why customers trust us to be their partner in a commodity field. Ace Metal is a manufacturer of metal spools. We began manufacturing them in the 1960s, and our first customer was the iconic John A. Roebling & Sons Company. Today, Ace Metal manufactures high-quality, fine wire metal spools that are used in the ferrous, nonferrous, tire cord, fiber optic and aerospace industries as well as for many other applications. Our spools range in size from 6-in. to 14-in. flange diameters. They are designed with uniform quality and precision and are also used in the batch annealing process. They are made from prime cold-rolled steel and are available in multiple colored finishes. They are precision stamped, welded and pretested. Ace Metal spools are designed for strength and are more durable than Masonite, tin plate and most plastic spools as they can withstand annealing. Our customers want a heavyduty spool that is built to last and can be used multiple times, and that’s what we provide. Our tubular wire carriers, which come in square-base, star-base, clover-leaf base and circular-base designs, are used to ship large diameter wire and rod as well as internal wire carriers and payoffs. Wire manufacturers are welcome to contact Ace Metal to find out how we can help your company continue its legacy.

Axjo is well known to be a sustainable and innovative partner. A packaging solution from Axjo is developed here and now, designed to work today and in the future. By permitting efficiency, innovation, and sustainability to govern the way we work, we give our customers the opportunity to utilize our exceptional knowledge and high-tech production methods. Our Greenology Concept gives our customers added value and support in a world where specially adapted and environmentally optimized solutions are standard. Greenology is the result of our long-term aspiration to be a sustainable global partner. See p. 74. With a market presence in 58 countries and production units in four different locations around the world, we strive to minimize our carbon footprint. We are constantly looking for new opportunities to develop products, production methods and production facilities for a better circular society by using recycled materials and contributing to a closed loop. Axjo America is keeping almost 10 million pounds of plastic materials out of the landfill and giving it a new life through new products. For Axjo America, the next goal is set. The company is growing, and so is the scope of what we can offer. That includes our U.S.-made reels. They are manufactured from polymer materials that satisfy and exceed the demands made on equivalent products made of plywood and wood. We know that the standard varies depending on the market and that each company needs its own unique solution. Our reels have huge potential in a whole range of different product applications, including building wires, communication wires, fiber-optic cables and microduct.
