Specially for you! I may never meet you personally, but there is something I want to tell you. It is of such importance that I would be unkind if I didn’t let you know: yet it is so simple that you can read it in a few minutes. It is so vital that it may change your entire future: yet it is available to you at no cost whatever. It is a message that you may not like: yet you will never be able to forget it. And whether you believe it or not, it will affect you in life and in death. First of all let me emphasise that this message is absolutely true, because it is God who said it. When God makes a statement you can afford to accept it, because He cannot lie. When God makes a promise, you can rest upon it, because His promises can never fail. God will not make you believe this message – that is your choice – but He will hold you responsible for having heard it. Then let me tell you that this is a personal message to you. You cannot escape it. It brings you to the place of decision. You must either accept it or reject it. You must either say “I will” or “I will not”. You cannot be neutral. Here, then, is the message. It is an exact quotation from God’s Word, the Holy Bible:
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John3:16) Now, did you ever hear such wonderful words as these before? Are they not amazing? Just think for a moment what they say! They reveal three marvellous and thrilling facts.
First, “GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD!” since you are in the world, it means that He loved you. If that does not startle you, remember that when God loved you, He loved a sinner, because that is what you are. The bible says that you are a sinner (Romans 3:23), and if you are honest you will agree. Now, although God loves you. He hates your sin. Sins will keep you out of Heaven, because God is holy and He must punish sin. Thus a holy God must find a holy way of saving sinners. Otherwise the sinner must pay for his sins, and that would mean spending eternity in Hell. The second great fact is this: “HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON”. The first statement tells you that God loved you. This statement tells you how much He loved you. He loved you so much He gave His only begotten Son! Do you know what that means? It means that the Lord Jesus Christ suffered on the cross of Calvary so that you might be saved. He shed His blood so that your sins might be put away. He died for you so that you might live in Heaven forever. You see – someone must pay the penalty for sin, either you or a sinless substitute. God gave His Son so that He could be your sinless substitute. And now for the third tremendous fact: “WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN HIM SHOULD NOT PERISH BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE”. What could be more wonderful? Think of it! God gives eternal life to those who believe in Christ. The Saviour has finished the work. He has died, has risen from the grave and gone back into Heaven. Now your part is to believe in Him. This simply means that you should confess that you are a sinner, realise that Christ is willing and able to meet your need, and then receive Him as your Lord and Saviour. This is the message which I had to tell you. Now you must make a decision. Will you accept Him or reject Him? Will you believe on Him or will you refuse Him? Will you bow humbly before Him or will you turn away in pride? I may never meet you upon earth, but I hope I will meet you in Heaven. If you too will accept the sinner’s Saviour, then you will be surely saved. The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into His hand. He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. (John 3:35,36)
“Neither ““N either is there there salvation salvation in an any y other other:: ffor or ther there e iss none other name under er heaven heaven giv given en among men, wher whereby eby w we e must b be e sa saved” ved” Acts Actss 4:12

ExTRACTS FROM THE DRAFTMINuTES OF THE MEETING OF 12TH APRIL 2011 OF THE CITy & ROyAL BuRGH OF ELGIN COMMuNITy COuNCIL
Committee Reports - Planning Bryan Watson advised those present that comments have been received regarding the Elderly Care Home application beside the Eight Acres Hotel. Comments have also been received regarding the increase of traffic at the Morriston / A96 junction especially if the Decora Garden Centre were to open. Committee Reports - Recreation and Leisure The Chairman requested confirmation of the Voucher prizes for the Moray Council Street Name Bank competition. Pat Paterson confirmed that there will be three £10 vouchers and these will be needed by 10th May. Pat Paterson confirmed that the Enquiry / Waiting Room at the Bus Station will be opening shortly and will be staffed. Environment Notice Boards - Anne Glover explained that the meeting between the Environmental Committee, Denise Gormley, CSu and Alistair Campbell, Elgin Library has taken place and Mr Campbell expressed interest in the Community Council having space on the notice board at the library. A letter received from Joan Wood, Information Services Librarian confirmed space will be available for the agreed poster. A further two notice boards may be possible to use are at the Access Point at the front of the Council building and at the back. Contact information for gaining access is still being looked into. Further investigation into erecting the purpose built information notice boards has shown a long list of legal processes. It is suggested that this is not taken forward as there are many businesses that allow space for advertising of up and coming events. Mosaic - Anne Glover updated those present that she had recently met with Jacqui Taylor and was advised that BIDS funding may be available, however a further meeting advised that it was felt the mosaic is now damaged beyond repair. The artist has advised that it is still repairable if it is lifted soon. Fair Trade - Mary Wall advised that she would have to get a group of representatives of the town together on how to carry the Fair
Trade scheme forward. Mary Wall explained she had contacted the Moray Council asking if they would consider serving Fair Trade tea and coffee in the vending machines. Mary Wall will be contacting a representative of the Holy Trinity Church with regards to their Fair Trade policy and procedures. The Chairman asked Mary Wall if she was still involved in the Moray Allotments and explained that Social Enterprise Forum discussed the use of moveable boxes as planters. The Chairman will pass this information to Mary Wall for reference. Committee Reports - Roads and Transportation • Murray Ross and George P Littlejohn met with Mr Ralph Newlands of Bear Scotland, Keith Office to discuss the outstanding problems on the A96 through the City of Elgin. Mr Newlands was provided with a list of ongoing issues. Funding continues to be an issue. • Resurfacing work on the stretch of road by Oakwood is now complete. • The ongoing list of issues will remain on the Roads and Transportation Agenda until satisfied. • The new ‘No Right Turn’ sign into North Street on Alexandra Road put in place 13.03.11 has been placed directly behind a set of Pelican Crossing lights. Mr Newlands said this would be looked into. To date the sign has not been moved. The Roads and Transportation Committee will follow this up with Mr Newlands. • Murray Ross and George P Littlejohn met with Decora’s Director Mr McWhirter to discuss the City and Royal Burgh of Elgin Community Council planter at the Morriston Road / A96 junction. Mr McWirter confirmed that the new garden centre was not opening at present due to financial reasons. This will be followed up once the situation evolves. • Murray Ross and George P Littlejohn met with Mr Alistair Campbell, Moray Council Libraries regarding the wording of posters at Elgin Rail Station. Mr Campbell has looked into this matter and agreed that this will need correcting. • Murray Ross contacted Mr Kevin Price, Moray Council Roads Department regarding the speed limit on the Duffus Road at the
Spynie development. The current signs are no longer visible due to the shrubbery that has grown. Mr Price agreed to review the locations of the signs. This will be followed up by the Roads and Transportation Committee. A letter has been sent to Gordon Holland, Moray Council Transportation Manager, regarding the following issues: • Adjust signage on Route 328 buses to better engage with public and tourists • Boroughbriggs Road - overflow parking • Cooper Park parking • Restrict the turn of Linkwood Way south bound on the A96 to east bound only • A discussion has taken place with Mr Alistair Campbell, Moray Council Libraries regarding the Library Parking area; Mr Campbell has expressed an interest in a 2 hour parking restriction, but it was agreed the fall back limit should be 3 hours. • A letter has been sent to Mr Tim Haynes, Moray Council Solicitor regarding the Roof Signs of City of Elgin taxicabs showing ‘City of Elgin’. • Harry Torry expressed concern with the ‘keep clear’ painted signs on the A96 / Halfords roundabout. The new junction crossing traffic lights are causing back up of traffic and it is felt that the ‘keep clear’ signs will be erased very quickly due to the flow of traffic. George P Littlejohn agreed to investigate this matter. Elgin - City region for the future • An event took place at Elgin Town Hall that was attending by Gordon Methven, George P Littlejohn and the Chairman. A very clear explanation of the short and long term future plans on the Vision of Elgin was provided by the consultants and endorsed by Jim Royan– and where they hope to go in future / improve, this report will supersede the 2020 vision. • Cllr J Russell advised that there are several strands of work currently taking place and a new economic strategy will replace the 2020 strategy. This is due to finish at the end of May and the Community Planning Partners will actively introduce the plans in June / July. Date and Time of Next Meeting Tuesday 14th June 2011 at 7pm in the Moray Council Chambers.

Legal – Ease RESIDENTIAL LEASES – the house market recovery is still slow, but if you need to move, letting your property under a residential tenancy may be one option to achieve this. The Short Assured Tenancy (‘SAT’) is a lease of a residential home for a minimum of 6 months or more. The SAT offers a Landlord an automatic right to recover possession of their home at the end of the term provided the correct Notice has been served. A SAT offers a Tenant security of tenure for the period of the lease and, provided they intimate to the Landlord that they are leaving at the end of the term, they are released from any further obligations. The term of the lease can be negotiated between the parties, provided it is for a minimum of 6 months or more. However, as the lease is a contract with penalties for breach, it is not advisable to make the term more than 12 months at a time, as either parties’ circumstances may change requiring them to regain possession or move on. There are legal requirements for a Landlord to comply with and others of a more practical nature. Below is a non–exhaustive list of matters to consider: Check your title deeds - to ensure there are no provisions against letting: Inform your lender as the terms of a mortgage may alter; Ensure the property is wind and watertight and habitable; Include white goods ie, cooker, fridge and washing machine; Register as a landlord - with the Local Authority where the property is situated; Arrange Landlord’s buildings insurance; Have annual gas and electrical safety checks carried out by a qualified person; Consider who will deal with emergencies if you are not on hand; Set up a standing order for payment of rent. If the property is rented to 2 or more families at one time a ‘House in Multiple Occupation’ licence will be required with additional legal requirements placed on a landlord. If you would like to discuss letting your home please feel free to call:

Carpet Cleaning Hints & Tips from the Team at Can-Do Services All the tips are tried and tested and if you need any further help please call the team on the numbers below. We hope that you enjoy the feature and find it useful! Month 3 of our cleaning hints and tips page and this month I thought I would share a tip with you that came from someone just picking up the phone and looking for a bit of advice. Remember advice is FREE so if you have a stubborn little problem feel free to give us a quick call. This month I would like to share with you a tip on the removal of stickers from windows, doors, walls etc. Often it can seem like the glue that is used is impossible to remove. As a rule rather than peeling stickers straight off it is often better to try and soften the sticker itself rather
than having to hack away at the glue that's left. The easiest way to soften the sticker is by using a hot steam iron. Holding the iron about 1-2 cm from the sticker spray liberally with steam this will softened the paper and the glue. Once softened take a paint scraper and carefully scrape the corner loose. This should allow the sticker to peel more easily. If not repeat until softer and easier to peel. Some more stubborn and sticky glue may require careful removal with a paint scraper. Finally using a vinegar based window cleaner remove any excess glue and dry surface thoroughly. For stain removal tips why not visit our new website at www.can-doservices.co.uk and remember advice is FREE so give us a call!

Local electrical appliances retailer JM Younie and Sons (known simply as Younies to most) is fighting hard to remind shoppers of the benefits of staying local when making household purchases. Internet based shops and multinational chains may purport to offer more, but is that the reality? How much time can we spend on comparison websites trawling feedback responses on products we cannot see or touch? Just how much technical advice is available in these big outlets?
ONLY

So what is Younies (and other independent stores like them) doing to combat the big retailers?
ONLY
£329.99 cal e lo ry Freelive d
Firstly - price - it may surprise some that Younies is able to compete very well on price due in large part to its membership of one of the biggest buying groups in Europe. In this way, the large buying power of “the biggies” is matched at the local level. Prices are constantly being reduced as new technology comes on stream.

Younies has a huge product range that would surprise many and has competitive prices to match. If we really want to see a local economic recovery then it is essential that businesses like Younies are able to compete with the big boys. Local businesses are truly the lifeblood of the local community and long may they thrive!
Dimplex
Thirdly - service - and this is where Younies can score really well. From the best in-store independent advice, to delivery and then to fitting an appliance. After sale service is a matter of a quick phone call to a “real” person or a revisit to the store. All of which can often be not so easy with “the biggies”.
Younies stock a huge range of electrical appliances from toasters to radios, fires, vacuum cleaners, kettles, light fittings, tv’s, kitchen white goods and much much more - why not pop in and talk to them! You may well be surprised!
Dyson
Secondly - buying experience - Stores like Younies have years (and we do mean years!) of built up experience in brand performance in electrical goods. Younies know only too well that the success of their business hinges on being able to supply products that will stand the test of time. They well know that a customer will be straight back to them with a faulty product and it is therefore in their interests to get it right first time.
