The End of an Era: Farewell, Prince

Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh June 10, 1921April 9, 2021

On April 9th, 2021, we were given the unfortunate news that Prince Philip had passed away. Although I did not know him in person, I was a participant in his ‘Duke of Edinburgh’ program, and wanted to express gratitude towards this initiative of his that connected students from all around the world and offered them an opportunity to become part of a community that pushed students to step out of their comfort zones whilst striving to become well-rounded individuals. The DOE program has taught me a lot, and was a fun journey to partake in as well. The program’s itinerary of going for overnight treks, learning a new sport, volunteering and giving back to the community, and learning a new skill turns any willing participant into a versatile student with physical and mental prowess. As we hold Prince Philip in our memories, we shall also remember the footprints he has left behind. Hence, as a student, I would like to once again thank him for starting this wonderful program, not just for me, but for millions of students around the world who would also agree.
