Another zine and this time it’s pure eye candy! 2020 was a whirlwind, but we wanted to use this zine as an opportunity to explore the more lonely and ruminative aspect of it: quarantine.
From the safety of our homes, most of us watched last year unfold through digital screens. As if an apocalyptic-movie-turnedreal-life, each new day made this world a little crazier. In Alab ng Puso, we were able to capture a small glimpse of the pandemic’s impact, but for this zine, we wanted to magnify life under lockdown. The Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer is built around the seemingly endless hours of isolation and the unmitigated stream of weird thoughts that come along with them– we like to call these ‘shower thoughts’. This zine is one of bed brunches, binge-watched shows, and home baked goods. It’s one of adopted and abandoned fitness regimens, quadrupled screen times, and the endless wandering of our bored minds. Where our only human contact with those outside our immediate family comes from Zoom calls and direct messages, its unsurprising that we’ve all gone a little bit crazy, restlessly tired. In the production of this zine, our creative and photography director, Alyanna, undertook the challenge of performing FaceTime photoshoots. To no one’s surprise, these pictures have turned out wonderfully, and alongside our Winston photographers’ home pictures, we’re proud to showcase a gallery of our team’s amazing photography skills and outstanding ability to adapt. We
are also incredibly excited to present the artwork of our graphics team and their immense effort in the production of this zine. This publication is our last as the 2020 editorial team and I’m glad to end it on a high note. Despite lockdown and the staggering transition to remote learning, our team has been overwhelmed by the continuing – and even growing – support and dedication of our Winston members. To think that this zine allowed us to acquire the most diverse range of BSM photographers and graphic artists amongst the publications we’ve done is a testament towards the unbridled passion of our members. To my wonderful editorial team: Winston would have never reached the heights it has without you guys. Your talent, commitment, and passion have made Winston thrive. I hope this zine helps you find a lighthearted solace amidst the world’s current unpredictable turmoil and brings those close to you, even closer, as it has with our own Winston team.

gallery Photography and shoots are a big part of Winston. With this zine, we worried about how we could continue such a vibrant legacy despite lockdown, but, luckily, our team has found wonderful ways to adapt. After pinterest boards, Zoom discussions, and too many cups of coffee, we are proud to present the fruits of our FaceTime photoshoots and still-life home pictures. At the same time, we enlisted our graphic artists to create pages with ‘shower thoughts’ prompts–trivial realisations that often propel us into mini existential crises. Here, we hope to capture the commonalities in our isolation: overthinking, overeating, and oversleeping.
