Speightstown - Date to Remember, by Bernardini

New for 2019 BLAZING MEADOWS |

NATIONAL FLAG, by leading sire SPEIGHTSTOWN, will stand in Ohio beginning in 2019 as part of an expanded partnership between WinStar Farm and Tim Hamm’s Blazing Meadows. The graded stakes winner and $600,000 yearling will be offered for $2,500 live foal. Winner of 3 of 6 lifetime starts, NATIONAL FLAG was a MSW winning juvenile at Saratoga and graded stakes winning sophomore. National Flag, out the multiple graded stakes producing BERNARDINI mare Date to Remember hails from the immediate family of G1 winner and sire Eddington. “He is a beautiful horse that was loaded with talent, he came down with a severe case of EPM after the Pat Day Mile on Derby day that unfortunately ended his career prematurely. He showed his class and talent at the best racetracks in the country winning at Saratoga, Gulfstream and Aqueduct and is by the versatile sire Speightstown, who I love as a sire of sires,” says Elliott Walden, CEO of WinStar Farm. “We have bred some top Ohio breds with WinStar over the last few years and I am excited about the talent, looks, and pedigree NATIONAL FLAG brings to Ohio. Our partnership bought 10 mares at the recently concluded Keeneland November sales, and we have seen local interest in NATIONAL FLAG already with over 20 mares on his book. We hope he will be a leading Sire in Ohio for the next decade.” Says Tim Hamm. NATIONAL FLAG will participate in WinStars’ popular “Dream Big” program and will offer breeders an opportunity to earn a Lifetime Breeding right when they breed and produce two live foals at the advertised fee of $2,500. “NATIONAL FLAG is a horse we thought had G1 ability and we are going to support him heavily, he provides Ohio breeders with a chance to breed to a high quality racehorse that could have stood in Kentucky if his career wasn’t cut short”, says Sean Tugel, Director of Bloodstock Services at WinStar, “the Ohio breeding program continues to advance as a leading regional market, NATIONAL FLAG is a great option for a breeder to breed back to and capitalize on the Ohio bred program this coming year.”
