Trustee Biographies 2019-2020 Trustees of The Winsor School

Eman Ansari P’20, ’24 Dr. Eman Ansari is a physician at Boston Children’s Hospital and a specialist in pediatric emergency medicine. After her residency at Tufts Medical Center, she went on to complete a fellowship at Children’s and gain board certification in both pediatric pulmonology and pediatric critical care medicine. Eman also serves on the faculty of Harvard Medical School, where she has been involved in the work of the Joint Committee on the Status of Women.

Elected last year to the Winsor Corporation, she has been very active in Winsor’s parent community, including working closely with the Parent Network for Diversity and serving on the P.A. Steering Committee since 2013. A native of Saudi Arabia, she earned her medical degree at King Abdulaziz University and also holds an M.P.H. from Harvard’s School of Public Health.

Eman resides in Newton with her husband, Essam, and their four children, including two Winsor daughters, Leanne ’20 and Danah ’24.

John R. Barker P’21, ’23 John Barker joined Partners HealthCare in 2012 as Chief Investment Officer responsible for oversight of Partners’ portfolio of investment and pension assets. Prior to Partners, John was a managing director at Harvard Management Company (HMC) overseeing HMC’s externally managed domestic equity, foreign equity, emerging market equity, and high yield investments.

John joined HMC from Wellesley College’s investment office where from 2002 through 2008 he oversaw the development of the College’s hedge fund and alternative asset portfolios. Prior to Wellesley, John was a principal at Paratus Capital, a middle market buyout firm, and he began his career as an oil and gas research analyst at Cambridge Associates. John is also a trustee of Brooks School. In addition to being a member of the Winsor Investment Committee, John is also on the Boston University and CRICO investment committees, chairs the Brooks School investment committee, and is an independent member of the Cargill/ MacMillan Family’s Waycrosse Investment Council in Wayzata, Minn. John received his M.B.A. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and his A.B. from Dartmouth College. John and his wife, Julie, live in Wellesley with their two daughters: Eliza, who attended Winsor as a member of the Class of 2023, and Lydia, who attended Winsor as a member of the Class of 2021.

Elizabeth Bennett Carroll ’89 Elizabeth spent the first half of her career as an environmental policy consultant, co-founding BlueWave Strategies LLC, a Boston-based firm that she and her partners sold to TRC Solutions Inc. in 2010. Previously, she held positions at Booz-Allen & Hamilton, ERG, Brownfields Recovery Corporation, and the White House Council on Environmental Quality. After the sale of BlueWave, Elizabeth launched a second career as an educator, joining the faculty of Roxbury Latin, where she teaches environmental science, advises students, works on admissions, and manages programs related to the school’s 50-acre urban forest. She also chairs the board of Acadia Center, a leading environmental advocacy group focused on clean energy and climate change. Elizabeth holds an M.E.M. from Yale University and B.A. from the University of Virginia. She joined the Winsor Alumnae Board in 2009, one year after being named to the Winsor Corporation. Elizabeth was elected to the Winsor Board of Trustees in 2015 after having served on the board as an ex-officio member for two years in her role as president of the Alumnae Board. That same year, she co-chaired the search committee for Winsor’s current head of school, Sarah Pelmas. Elizabeth lives in Wellesley with her husband, John, and their three sons.

Rachel Casseus ’02 Rachel Casseus is the founder and managing attorney of Casseus Law, a business immigration law practice based in Cambridge, where she advises foreign national researchers, entrepreneurs, businesses and individuals from within the United States and abroad. Driven by a desire to change people’s lives, she also co-founded a nonprofit organization devoted to supporting Haitian student athletes, helping them to secure scholarships to attend U.S. high schools and colleges. The daughter of Haitian immigrants, she has a longstanding commitment to creating access to education for children in her parents’ homeland. Rachel received her J.D. from Suffolk University Law School and her bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College. A devoted member of Winsor’s Class of 2002 and one of three Winsor sisters, Rachel serves on the Winsor Corporation, is an active mentor in Winsor’s Independent Learning Experience program and a strong voice for alumnae giving.

Larry Cheng P’23, ’25 Larry Cheng is managing partner of Volition Capital, a technology growth equity firm that he cofounded in 2010. He focuses on investment opportunities in fields ranging from consumer e-commerce to enterprise cloud applications. He spent the prior five years as a partner at Fidelity Ventures after earlier roles at Bessemer Venture Partners and Battery Ventures. Going back to his undergraduate days at Harvard College, he was already emerging as a leader, running Harvard Student Agencies. He now sits on the Alumni Association Board of Directors for his alma mater. In addition to serving on several corporate boards, Larry serves in the nonprofit sphere as a board member of Wycliffe Bible Translators and as an overseer at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He has also volunteered at Winsor as a parent agent for the Annual Fund. Larry and his wife Joanne live in Lexington; they have two daughters at Winsor—Audrey ’23 and Madeline ’25—and a younger daughter.

Raymond T. Chung P’18, ’21 Dr. Raymond Chung is the vice chief of the Gastrointestinal Division, Director of the Liver Center, and medical director of the Liver Transplant Program at Massachusetts General Hospital. In his research, Ray focuses on liver disease, hepatitis viruses, and liver cancer. A graduate of the Punahou School and Harvard University, he earned his medical degree at Yale before going on to John Hopkins for his residency and to MGH for his subspecialty training.

Ray was also recently a trustee of the Chestnut Hill School, where both his Winsor daughters attended. His daughter Nicole graduated in 2018, and Camille is in Class VII. With their daughters and six-year-old son, James, Ray and his wife, Diane, live in Chestnut Hill.

Mark Condon P’16, ’18, ’18, ’21 Mark Condon has been a longstanding member of the Winsor Corporation, elected in 2011.

His many Winsor volunteer leadership roles include serving as class parent from 2010-2012 and as co-chair of the Winsor Parents’ Association from 2012 to 2014. He has also co-chaired the Class VIII Gift Committee and, together with his wife, Jean Hynes, was among the leaders of the Parent Challenge in The Winsor Promise campaign. His many civic involvements include being among the partners and supporters of MassArt, the Asian University for Women Support Foundation, and the Stowe Land Trust. He has served on the board of the Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center in Stowe, Vermont. Mark earned his bachelor’s in materials engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He and Jean reside in Boston and are parents of four Winsor daughters, Eve ’21, and alumnae Sarah ’16 and twin sisters Caroline ’18 and Grace ’18.

Wendy Cromwell P’21 Wendy Cromwell is a senior vice president, partner, and director of asset allocation at Wellington Management. An experienced investment analyst and portfolio manager specializing in sustainable investing, she has spent more than 20 years at Wellington. Her many leadership roles with the firm include serving on the Advisory Board of the Wellington Women’s Network and chairing the Wellington Management Australia Board. A Chartered Financial Analyst, she earned her M.B.A. with honors from Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management and her bachelor’s in business administration summa cum laude from the University of Mississippi. She serves on Owen’s Alumni Board and on the board of the United Nations-supported Principles of Responsible Investment. She served on the Winsor’s Investment Committee in 2014-2015 and joined the Winsor Corporation in 2015. Wendy and her husband, Gordon Cromwell, reside in Chestnut Hill with their daughter, Caroline Bridges Cromwell ’21, and two sons.

Bart Epker P’13 Bart is a partner at PAR Capital Management, a private investment firm which manages approximately $5 billion for accredited investors. He serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Pure Cycle Corporation, the Finance Committee of the Steppingstone Foundation, and is on the Honors Alumni Council at the University of Michigan. Bart graduated from University of Michigan in 1983 and received his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in 1987.

He lives in Boston with his wife, Medha. Their daughter, Eva, graduated from Winsor in 2013.

Audrey McAdams Fenton ’93, P’26 Audrey McAdams Fenton joins the Board of Trustees as an ex officio member in her incoming role as president of Winsor’s Alumnae Board. She is a partner at Blacklight Research, where she is Head of Business Development. Earlier in her career, she worked as a director of business analytics at Fidelity and in global business development roles at Mercer and Marsh & McLennan in New York City. Credentialed in fine art appraisal, she also founded and managed Provenance LLC, a dealer of works by contemporary artists. She earned her M.B.A. at Boston College and her B.A. in art history from Princeton University, where she coxed its NCAA Division 1 champion women’s varsity crew team. Devoted to Winsor, Audrey has been active on reunion committees for many years. She joined the Corporation in 2015 and presently serves as the Alumnae Board’s Vice President. During the Promise campaign, she stepped up as a leader of the Alumnae Challenge. Beyond the Winsor community, she is a past board member of the Catholic Schools Foundation and a current board member of the Stage Harbor Sailing School.

She and her husband, Colin Fenton, reside in Needham with their two children, including daughter Paige ’26.

Mary Gallagher ’94 Mary Gallagher has been the chief operating officer of the Massachusetts Division of Banks since 2015. She took on this public sector leadership role after seventeen years working in the financial services industry. Her prior work includes foreign exchange and equity market sales and trading roles at Morgan Stanley, State Street Global Markets, and Deutsche Bank Alex Brown in New York, London and Boston. A 1994 graduate of Winsor, Mary went on to earn her bachelor’s at Harvard University. A member of the Winsor Corporation, she has served our school in many roles through the years, including on the Alumnae Board and the Young Alumnae Committee. Throughout The Winsor Promise campaign, Mary devoted her energy to making the case for support as a member of the Leadership Gifts Committee and in key speaking roles as an articulate and passionate champion for girls’ education.

David Goel P’23 David is co-founder and managing general partner of Matrix Capital Management. Before forming Matrix in 1999, David was a member and technology research analyst at Tiger Management. Previously, he was an associate at General Atlantic Partners and a financial analyst at Morgan Stanley. He is also on the board of directors of Adaptive Biotechnologies, nFerence AI, Qrativ Pharmaceuticals, and Zeno Pharmaceuticals. David is also a trustee of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. David joined Winsor’s Finance Committee in fall 2015. He earned his B.A. in government magna cum laude from Harvard University. David and his wife, Stacey, live in Weston with their two children, including Elizabeth-Grace ’23.

Jonathan Goldstein P’22, ’24 Jono Goldstein is a senior advisor at TA Associates, a Boston-based private equity investment firm. He joined TA in 1986, and retired from managing director in 2014. Before TA, Jono was a genetic engineer. Jono is a member of the boards of the Steppingstone Foundation, the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research, and the World Wide Web Foundation, as well as on the Mass General Hospital for Children Advisory Board. He has also joined the Science Visiting Council for the PBS/WGBH television show “NOVA.” He holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and also earned his master’s in biochemical engineering and bachelor’s degrees in chemical engineering and biology, all from MIT. He has been awarded the Bronze Beaver for distinguished service by MIT for his volunteer service, including his current roles as class secretary, co-chair of the New England region of the MIT Corporation Development Committee, and member of the Student Life Visiting Committee. Jono and his wife, Kaia Miller Goldstein, have two Winsor daughters, Annika ’22 and Skylar ’24.

Mary Beth Gordon P’23, ’26 Mary Beth Gordon is a pediatrician at Milton Pediatric Associates. She earned her M.D. from Harvard Medical School, where she received the New England Pediatric Society Prize and the Henry Asbury Christian Award, after earning her bachelor’s in social studies and fine arts from Harvard College. Mary Beth completed her pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital Boston and Boston Medical Center, and subsequently served as chief resident and then as a staff physician at Children’s. She recently completed her M.P.H. at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and consults with the Boston Public Health Commission. She serves on the boards of the Home for Little Wanderers and Buckingham Browne & Nichols. She joined the Winsor Corporation in 2018 and has been active in the Parents’ Association as a Class Parent.

She and her husband, Chris Gordon, reside in West Newton, with their three daughters, including Amory ’23 and Riley ’26.

William H. Heald P’18, ’21 Bill joins the board as an ex-officio member in his role as Annual Giving Chair. Bill has more than two decades of experience in commercial and business banking. He currently serves as Senior Vice President of Deposits and Cash Management at Wellesley Bank. Previously, he was Vice President of Commercial Lending at Rockland Trust. He holds a Master’s of Education from Lesley University and a B.A. in Political Science from UMass Amherst. He is also a graduate of the Massachusetts Bankers Association’s School of Leadership and Commercial Lending Program. As a Winsor parent volunteer, Bill has served as a member of the Winsor Corporation, Annual Giving Class Coordinator, and on The Winsor Promise Leadership Gifts Committee. Bill and his wife, Catherine, live in Natick with their two daughters, Rose ’18 and Sarah, who attended Winsor as a member of the Class of 2021.

Charles “Charlie” Hebard P’24 Charlie Hebard is a managing director of research for Fidelity Investments. He has spent 20 years at Fidelity, including 14 years as an analyst and portfolio manager. A Chartered Financial Analyst, he received his M.B.A. in finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania after earning his B.A. in economics from Penn. His volunteer leadership roles reflect his commitment to education, including serving as member of his alma mater’s Undergraduate Financial Aid Leadership Council. A former trustee and board vice president of the Chestnut Hill School, Charlie joined the Winsor Corporation in 2017. He and his wife, Leigh Hebard, live in Chestnut Hill with their three children, including Kate ’24.

Sam Kennedy P’23 Sam Kennedy P’23 is president and CEO of the Boston Red Sox as well as Fenway Sports Management. Now in his 17th year there, Sam originally joined the organization as vice president of corporate partnerships, and rose to the role of executive vice president and COO, overseeing ticketing, sales, sponsorships and marketing. An interesting Winsor note: in becoming Sox president in 2015, Sam succeeded another Winsor dad, Larry Lucchino, his early mentor when he first broke into sports management. Sam graduated from Trinity College, where he now serves on the Board of Fellows. He also serves on the boards of Dana-Farber, Camp Harbor View and the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce. Sam and his wife, Amanda, live in Wellesley with their two children, including daughter Allison ’23.

Adrienne Penta Lissner ’96 Adrienne Penta Lissner is a senior vice president at Brown Brothers Harriman (BBH), where she runs the Center for Women and Wealth nationally for BBH Private Banking. Prior to this role, Adrienne had responsibility for trust operations and wealth planning in BBH’s Boston office. Before joining the firm, she practiced law at Choate, Hall & Stewart, specializing in estate, charitable and tax planning for families and governance and tax issues for non-profits. A 1996 Winsor graduate, Adrienne earned her B.A. from Johns Hopkins, where she was elected Phi Beta Kappa, and her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. Her many Winsor roles include co-chairing the campaign’s Leadership Gifts Committee and serving on both the Winsor Corporation and Alumnae Board. Adrienne also helped to create and co-chair Winsor’s Young Alumnae Committee. Beyond Winsor, she serves on a number of boards and committees, including the Board of Directors of the Emerald Necklace Conservancy and the Board of Overseers for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston. Adrienne lives with her husband and two children in Charlestown.

Joseph J. O’Donnell P’05, ’07 Joe is chairman of Centerplate, a leading nationwide foodservice provider. He is involved in many charitable endeavors, spending approximately half his time on philanthropic matters, especially The Joey Fund, which supports cystic fibrosis research. He serves as chairman of the national Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Milestones campaign, which has raised $250 million in the past five years. Joe has served as an overseer at Harvard College (1999-2005) and as a member of the Harvard Corporation (2010-2018). He graduated from Harvard in 1967 and received his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in 1971. Joe has been on the Board of Trustees and a member of the Corporation of the Winsor School since 1998. A leader in The Essential Winsor campaign, Joe was co-chair of The Winsor Promise Campaign. He and his wife, Kathy, live in Boston and are parents to two Winsor graduates, Kate ’05, and Casey ’07.

Krishna G. Palepu P’21 Prof. Krishna Palepu has taught for the past three decades at the Harvard Business School, where he is the Ross Graham Walker Professor of Business Administration. Krishna is also a senior advisor to the president for global strategy at Harvard University. In his current research and teaching, he focuses on strategy for emerging markets as well as on governance and board engagement. Krishna has served on boards for both public companies and nonprofits, including Brooks Automation and Partners Healthcare International. The author of several academic articles and books, Krishna earned his doctorate in management from MIT and he received an Honorary Doctorate from the Helsinki School of Economics and Business Administration. He and his wife, Laurie, live in Newton with their two children: son Kalyan attends Roxbury Latin and daughter Anjali is in Winsor’s Class of 2021.

Allison Kaneb Pellegrino ’89, P’21, ’22 Allison began her current role as board chair and president of the Winsor Corporation in 2015.

A member of Winsor’s Class of 1989, she went on to earn her B.A. at Southern Methodist University and her M.B.A. at Boston College’s Carroll School of Management. After beginning her career at State Street Bank and Trust, she co-founded Pernix Equity Investments in 1997 with her husband, Stephen. She served as vice president and treasurer of the small private equity firm before retiring after the birth of her first child. While raising three young children is her focus, Allison volunteers significant time to philanthropic projects. She was a trustee of the Dexter Southfield School for six years, where she served on their Development and Governance Committees. Allison has served on the Board of Managers of The Vincent Club as well as the Vincent Memorial Hospital whose purpose is to support women’s health care at the Massachusetts General Hospital. A recipient of Winsor’s Alumnae Service Award, she has been an exceptional class liaison and a member of the Alumnae Board, Corporation and 125th Anniversary Committee, and co-chair of The Winsor Promise Campaign Steering Committee. She resides in Westwood with her husband and their three children, including daughters Eleanor ’21 and Alexandra ’22.

Sarah Pelmas Sarah Pelmas has been Winsor’s eighth head of school and O’Donnell Family Chair since July 2016. Prior to that, she worked at National Cathedral School and San Francisco University High School, as well as UC Berkeley, Stanford, and Syracuse University. She and her husband Matt Eddy have two sons.

Israel Ruiz P’25 Israel Ruiz is executive vice president and treasurer of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In that role, he is the institute’s chief financial officer and a trustee of the MIT Corporation. Earlier in his career, he held management and engineering roles at HewlettPackard and Nissan Automotive. He chairs the board of The Engine, a new MIT initiative aimed to accelerate breakthrough innovations, and serves on the boards of edX, an MIT and Harvard online learning initiative, MIT Endicott House, and MIT Technology Review. He is also a director of both Fortive and Moderna Therapeutics. Israel has long been involved in Boston’s public schools and chairs the governing board of the Eliot K-8 Innovation School.

He received his master’s from the MIT Sloan School of Management and his bachelor’s in industrial and mechanical engineering from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in his native Barcelona. He and his wife, Maria Minguell, reside in Boston with their three children, including Erika ’25.

Jill Shah P’25 Jill Shah is the president of the Shah Family Foundation, which supports innovative and transformative solutions to problems that overlap in education, healthcare, and community in the City of Boston. Jill is deeply involved in the foundation’s work, which includes building kitchens in all Boston Public Schools by 2022, and championing a strategy for the district to ensure that every student graduates knowing how to access food, shelter, and love. Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, she has founded or helped to lead several software and internet solutions companies, including Jill’s List, an online marketplace for integrative medicine, which she later sold to MINDBODY, Inc. Earlier in her career, she worked extensively in strategy and business development, both founding and leading companies and turnarounds of companies. She has also helped to create a networking forum to assist women entrepreneurs in growing their own businesses. A graduate of Providence College, she has served on the trustee and advisory boards of several area nonprofits, including the Museum of Fine Arts, Kingsley Montessori School, Boch Center for the Performing Arts, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, the Benson Henry Institute, FreshTruck, and the Boston Schools Fund. She and her husband, Niraj, reside in Boston with daughter Madori ’25, and their son, Jack, who attends Belmont Hill.

Kerry Swords P’23 Kerry Swords devotes herself to the causes of education and children’s health and welfare through many leadership roles across Boston’s nonprofit community. She is vice chair of the board at Nativity Prep, co-chair of the Mass. General Hospital for Children advisory board, a member of UNICEF New England’s regional board, a member of the Pine Street Inn Council, and a former trustee of the Park School. Kerry has also co-chaired many of the city’s fundraising galas, inspiring philanthropic support for organizations ranging from Friends of the Public Garden to the Big Sister Association of Greater Boston. In April 2018, Kerry and her husband Brendan were honored by Jesuits East with its Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam Award, personifying a tradition of giving selflessly. A graduate of Boston College, Kerry began her career in marketing at Reebok and held numerous positions in advertising, public relations and product management before matriculating at Harvard Business School. Upon graduation, Kerry worked in the financial services vertical sector for Siebel Systems, a software company principally engaged in the design, development, marketing and support of customer relationship management (CRM) applications. Elected last year to the Winsor Corporation, Kerry has been very active in Winsor’s parent community. Kerry and Brendan reside in Boston with their three children, Kathryn ’23, Mairin ’27, and son Ryan at Noble and Greenough.

Perry M. Traquina P’09, ’13 Perry is the former chairman and CEO of Wellington Management Company LLP. A CFA, he joined Wellington in 1980 as a research analyst following the technology industry, and grew to oversee all of the firm’s global industry research. He became the firm’s president in 2002 and managing partner and CEO in 2004. He retired from Wellington at year-end 2014. He earned his B.A., summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from Brandeis University, and studied at the London School of Economics during his junior year there. He went on to receive his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. He has been a member of the Winsor Corporation since 2005 and a Trustee since 2008. Perry currently serves on the Board of Trustees at Brandeis University, is on the board of directors of eBay, Inc., AllState, Inc., and Morgan Stanley, Inc., and serves on the advisory board of G20 Ventures. He and his wife, Robin, live in Wayland, have three children, and are parents to Winsor graduates Meredith ’09 and Katherine ’13.

Lori Whelan P’23, ’25 Lori co-founded Silversmith Capital Partners in 2015. At Silversmith, she serves as the firm’s chief operating partner and CFO. Lori spent 12 years in strategy consulting (Bain and Company) and CFO roles (Papa Gino’s and PR Management Corp) prior to co-founding Silversmith. Lori earned her M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and her B.S.E. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to serving on the Winsor Corporation and our board’s Finance Committee, she serves on the Board of Trustees of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Lori and her husband, EJ Whelan, have two Winsor daughters, Lindsay ’23 and Abby ’25.
