EFFECTIVE SOLUTIONS FOR COMPLEX PROBLEMS
Rely on us for compliance, stability, and constant innovation
IMPLEMENTING THE MOST ADVANCED METHODS
Nuclear cleanup and decommissioning is a complex and dangerous process. Veolia develops solutions for our clients’ challenging and diverse needs, including remote retrieval machines, robotics, stabilization/vitrification techniques, and ion exchange and mercury treatment systems.
Operating in compliance with NQA-1 and ISO 9000 quality standards, Veolia uses innovative technologies to drive cutting edge treatment and disposal processes that enhance safety, improve efficiency, and lower costs for our customers. We focus on creating better ways to remotely access waste, separate streams, stabilize materials into a disposable form, and handle detritiation.
EXAMPLES OF KEY PROJECTS
GeoMelt® Vitrification
Veolia designed, built, and owns and operates two commercial GeoMelt vitrification plants in the U.S., one in Andrews, Texas, and one in Richland, Washington. This technology treats problematic legacy waste for the U.S. Department of Energy and is also used in Europe, Japan, and Australia.

Remote Handling/Robotics: D-Pit Remote Manipulator
Our engineers designed, constructed, and tested a long reach underwater manipulator for radioactive sludge retrieval.
• Payload: 50 kg limited, engineered for up to 93 kg
• Corrosion resistant
• Fully submersible arm with built-in decontamination features
• Remotely operated via fiber optic connection – The operator can be up to one mile away
• Includes multiple cameras and a force feedback feature to help protect the machine from damage
• Quick tool change interface, including optional automatic tool change capabilities
Cimarron Groundwater Remediation Pumping Project
Veolia created ion exchange technology to treat uranium contaminated groundwater at a former mining site. The design includes a waste handling system and nuclear safety controls that enable compliant transportation and disposal of enriched (235U) uranium. This turnkey, field proven solution reduced the costs and timeline for the remediation work.
