How long will my apprenticeship last?

In order to complete all of the requirements of your apprenticeship, you’ll need to work at Winns for at least a year.

How do I progress after the apprenticeship?

We believe in helping staff to develop in their careers. If you’d like to stay with us after the successful completion of your apprenticeship, there’s potential to progress into a long-term role within the company.

I joined Winns as a “receptionist/legal secretary

and have worked my way up to become a costs lawyer, and manager of the costs team. The firm offers help and support so that you can achieve your career ambitions.

“I’ve been working at Winn Solicitors for just over a month. I saw the apprenticeship vacancy advertised online, and as I’d heard a lot of good things about the company, I decided to apply.

“I joined Winns a year and a half ago, as an admin assistant on the post team. After only eight months, I was promoted to legal assistant.

Before joining Winns, I worked in a pub as a waitress, but I really wanted a job that could become a career.

In my new role, I work in the clerks department, assisting legal clerks and solicitors with file handling duties – this could be anything from issuing court proceedings to liaising with clients, courts or third party insurers.

Over the course of your apprenticeship, you’ll be mentored every step of the way, by members of our supportive team. On completion, you’ll gain an NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration, and the opportunity to progress and develop your career within the firm.

Initially, you’ll be part of our busy post team, where you’ll gain a wide range skills in ICT, administration and customer support.

We pride ourselves on offering our staff excellent progression opportunities - on completion of an apprenticeship, you can apply to move into a more senior role.

I’m thoroughly enjoying my apprenticeship so far. I spend time gathering and sorting through correspondence for solicitors and fee earners, as well as dealing with faxes and phone calls. We do some basic work on client’s files, and also get to visit court three times a week to deliver urgent mail.

The team is great, and as a new starter, I’ve received fantastic support. I’m looking forward to gaining my Business Administration qualification next year. In the future, I’d like to work my way up to a more senior role at Winns, or perhaps even do a law degree and qualify as a solicitor.“
