Founded in 1911, the Community House is a non-profit organization offering sports / fitness, performing arts, and educational programming for all ages. The historic building features a modern fitness center, theater, gymnasium, multi-purpose spaces, and a beautiful garden. As an independent 501(c)(3), we receive no tax dollars and rely on donations, memberships, and program fees. The Community House is proud to have served generations of Winnetka and North Shore families. Members and Non-Members from Winnetka and surrounding communities are welcome to participate in any of our classes, programs, lectures, and events.

Students learn how to set the table for a three-course meal and use the appropriate cutlery. About Skyline Children’s Theater
Skyline Children’s Theater is a mainstay at the Community House and is proud to teach children of all levels the fundamentals of acting. Jacqui Siegel, drama teacher, and Erica Zuhr, elementary school teacher, are the co-owners of Skyline Children’s Theater. Mrs. Siegel and Mrs. Zuhr have performed in and directed numerous plays throughout the Chicagoland area. Mrs. Siegel has worked with world-renowned casting directors in Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago. If you have a 1st through 3rd grade child interested in playing basketball against other area players without the hassle of traveling to a different location for every game, this program is for them. Participants will learn fundamental skills through weekly practices and games. Adult volunteers coach all teams.
Grade 1 games will have youth size basketballs and eight foot basketball rims. Grade 2 games will have youth size basketballs and nine foot basketball rims. Grade 3 games will have youth size basketballs, nine foot basketball rims, full court play and score will be kept. All games will have staff referees and timekeepers. All participants will receive a team jersey and commemorative basketball.
1 Teams will be established according to school (Crow Island, Greeley, Hubbard Woods, Sacred Heart, Faith Hope, North Shore Country Day and more); there will be no evaluation. When filling out your registration form please remember to indicate your child’s school—otherwise placement on a particular school team cannot be guaranteed. If there are more than 10 children from a school, multiple teams will be formed. Due to the number of children in this program, friend requests will not be taken.
2 Each team will have a 1-hour practice per week. Practices will be Mon. or Wed. between 4-8 pm OR Tues.,Thurs., or Fri. between 5-8 pm. Priority will be given to Grade 1 teams for earlier times. Coaches choose their team’s specific time by lottery in early December. There will be two weeks of practice before the first game.
3 Games will be held on Saturdays between 9 am and 7 pm. The specific game schedule will be created in early December: typically Grade 1 plays between 9 am and 12 pm, Grade 2 plays between Noon and 3 pm, and Grade 3 plays between 3 pm and 7 pm.
4 All team information (roster, practice time, game time, coach, etc.) will be available on or before December 4, 2026 at quickscores.com/wch.

Werner Martin
Werner Martin began his study of classical ballet in Berlin and continued to study and perform when he moved back to the U.S., performing with the Joffrey Ballet in their piece “Petrushka” at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles. In California, Werner also developed a passion for fitness and studied and taught at the Jane Fonda studio, appearing in Jane Fonda’s famous VHS workouts. Werner has a distinct passion for sharing the benefits of ballet with adults of any age and invites those of all ages and backgrounds to join him for a fun class!

KC Bleuher
KC is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer with specialized training in massage therapy, recovery modalities, pilates, and other group fitness formats. She uses a combination of corrective exercise, strength training, stretching and massage to customize a fitness plan for her clients. Her vision is a world where all people live pain-free, healthy, and strong. She believes in the connection between a healthy body and a positive outlook and is passionate about being a catalyst for change for her clients. KC joined the Community House training team in 2025.
Bob Davis
Bob has been assisting members of the Community House Fitness Center in reaching their fitness goals since 2001. Bob enjoys working with seniors and teens as well as those with special needs including rehabilitation. Helping those in the gym complements Bob’s career in sports media that has taken him to multiple NFL Super Bowls, and the NCAA Basketball Final Four. Bob is certified through the International Sports Science Association.
Cooper Harris
Cooper is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer and Nutrition Coach, natural bodybuilder, and former collegiate baseball player turned coach. He specializes in strength training and helps clients build muscle, improve performance, and develop discipline and confidence through structured, results-driven training.
Chris Treiber
Chris has been assisting members of the Community House Fitness Center in reaching their fitness goals since 1996. His specializations are training for strength, functional movement, balance, and older adult populations. Chris is certified through the American Council on Exercise, the Functional Aging Institute (Functional Aging Specialist) and the Gray Institute (Applied Functional Science).
Edwin Ventura
Edwin is a NASM certified personal trainer as well as a USA licensed Boxing Coach. He grew up in Waukegan playing soccer for 15 years before switching to boxing for the last 6 years. He enjoys training a wide range of clients for performance, general health, and weight loss. Edwin also holds a Performance Enhancement Specialty Certification through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, which enables him to train athletes to reach their full conditioning potential. Edwin joined the Community House training team in 2023.

Dog Obedience Puppy
Puppy Class provides a positive environment for socialization of puppies and people alike! Early socialization has been shown to greatly reduce the incidence of both human-directed aggression and dog-ondog aggression, as well as anxiety and fear-based behavior problems. Additional topics covered are house training, mouthing, barking, and preventing behavior problems. Obedience behaviors of sit, coming when called, and walking on a leash will be introduced. Continuing Scent Work NEW!
Prerequisite: Intro to Scent Work. This class will build onto the basic principles by adding more challenging hides, including adding birch and exterior searches (weather permitting). As one dog searches at a time, your dog will need to be crated when not searching. With smaller dogs, you are welcome to bring your own carrier. Bring a regular leash and soft treats. No obedience skills are required.

Next-Level Obedience NEW!
This class will help bring your dog’s basic commands to the next level, through fun games and activities! Dogs of any age may take this class and should have already established basic commands including sit, down, stay, coming when called, and loose leash walking. No retractable leashes are allowed. Positive reinforcement is used, so please bring soft treats to class.

Canine Good Citizen Test NEW!
This course will help prepare you and your dog for the CGC test, a ten-item test developed by the AKC during which your dog is evaluated on basic obedience and social skills. To be tested, the dog must not be reactive/aggressive toward any dogs or people. While there is no age limit, it is recommended the dog be at least 9 months of age, must be up to date on vaccinations, and have knowledge of basic obedience skills. The test will be administered on the last day of class, and all ten items must be demonstrated to pass the test.

CANCELLATION OF CLASSES Register early! Prior to the start of any class, registration is reviewed to determine if the enrollment is sufficient to hold the class. Do not wait until the day of the first class to register or you may find the class has been canceled due to low enrollment.

EMERGENCY CLOSINGS
The Community House intends to keep its facilities and programs operating whenever possible. There are times, however, when weather, road conditions, or facility malfunctions dictate that programs and/or services must be canceled or temporarily postponed or entire facilities closed. In order to provide employees and patrons with a safe and secure environment in which to work and play, the Community House reserves the right to close a particular facility or cancel a program when deemed necessary.
