
































Founded in 1911, the Community House is a non-profit organization offering sports, educational, and arts programming for children and adults. The historic building features a fitness center, a theater, several multi-purpose rooms, and a historic garden. As an independent 501(c)(3) we receive no tax dollars and rely on donations, memberships, and fees from programs and rentals to sustain our organization. The Community House is proud to have served generations of Winnetka residents and North Shore families.
Members and Non-Members from Winnetka and surrounding communities are welcome to participate in any of our classes, programs, lectures, and events.

Celeste Cifala Roy
Celeste is an early childhood movement, music, and yoga teacher at the Community House, and has taught throughout the North Shore for over 35 years. She has worked with the Old Town School of Folk Music, National-Louis University and Gorton Community Center in Lake Forest. Celeste’s interactive Everybody Move Inc. classes cultivate play, imagination and fun!
Daniel Rosa, “Teacher Dan”
A graduate of Loyola Academy, Dan is a talented multi-instrumentalist and popular teacher of piano, violin, guitar, bass guitar, banjo, mandolin, percussion, and voice at the Community House. Dan is the founder of Music ‘n’ Me and Top Note Music Academy. A firm believer that music should be fun, Dan enjoys sharing his love of music with his students. He is a graduate of USC with a degree in music.

Everybody Move Inc.
This class offers a playful and enriching time for you and your child to sing and dance! The beginning of the class provides free-play and gathering time to allow for socialization and interaction. The structured part of the class explores gross motor, fine motor, language development, and musical listening skills. This class is the perfect balance between child-centered instruction and supported imaginative play. Gwendolyn has been teaching ballet and Fantasy Dance classes at the Community House for over 20 years. Her students learn proper ballet technique in an encouraging atmosphere. As a performer, Gwendolyn danced for the Lynda Martha Dance Company. She is a certified teacher with the Cecchetti Council of America. Gwendolyn is a graduate of the Indiana University School of Music with a BS in Ballet Education.

Dan is the founder of Music ‘n’ Me and Top Note Music Academy. A firm believer that music should be fun, Dan enjoys sharing his love of music with his students. He is a graduate of USC with a degree in music.

Formed in 1974, Children’s Theatre of Winnetka (CTW) is an award-winning, volunteer organization dedicated to promoting theatrical experiences for children in Grades 4-8 who reside or attend school in New Trier Township. About Skyline Children’s Theater
Skyline Children’s Theater is a mainstay at the Community House and is proud to teach children of all levels the fundamentals of acting. Jacqui Siegel, drama teacher, and Erica Zuhr, elementary school teacher, are the co-owners of Skyline Children’s Theater. Mrs. Siegel and Mrs. Zuhr have performed in and directed numerous plays throughout the Chicagoland area. Mrs. Siegel has worked with world-renowned casting directors in Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago. If you have a 1st through 3rd grade child interested in playing basketball against other area players without the hassle of traveling to a different location for every game, this program is for them. Participants will learn fundamental skills through weekly practices and games. Adult volunteers coach all teams.
Grade 1 games will have youth size basketballs and eight foot basketball rims. Grade 2 games will have youth size basketballs and nine foot basketball rims. Grade 3 games will have youth size basketballs, nine foot basketball rims, full court play and score will be kept. All games will have staff referees and timekeepers. All participants will receive a team jersey and commemorative basketball.
1 Teams will be established according to school (Crow Island, Greeley, Hubbard Woods, Sacred Heart, Faith Hope, North Shore Country Day and more); there will be no evaluation. When filling out your registration form please remember to indicate your child’s school—otherwise placement on a particular school team cannot be guaranteed. If there are more than 10 children from a school, multiple teams will be formed. If there are too few children from any one school, children will be placed on a team according to village of residence. Due to the number of children in this program, friend requests will not be taken.
2 Each team will have a 1-hour practice per week. Practices will be Mon. or Wed. between 4-8 pm OR Tues.,Thurs., or Fri. between 5-8 pm. Priority will be given to Grade 1 teams for earlier times. Coaches choose their team’s specific time by lottery in early December. There will be two weeks of practice before the first game.
3 Games will be held on Saturdays between 9 am and 7 pm. The specific game schedule will be created in early December: typically Grade 1 plays between 9 am and 12 pm, Grade 2 plays between Noon and 3 pm, and Grade 3 plays between 3 pm and 7 pm.
4 All team information (roster, practice time, game time, coach, etc.) will be available on or before December 5, 2025 at quickscores.com/wch.
* We encourage you to sign up for the waitlist if a section is showing as full. We will continue to add as many teams as possible depending on registrations that come in. You will not be charged until you have a spot in the program.

Bob Davis
Bob has been assisting members of the Community House Fitness Center in reaching their fitness goals since 2001. Bob enjoys working with seniors and teens as well as those with special needs including rehabilitation. Helping those in the gym complements Bob’s career in sports media that has taken him to multiple NFL Super Bowls, and the NCAA Basketball Final Four. Bob is certified through the International Sports Science Association.
Marcia Hebard
Marcia has worked with hundreds of people of all ages and ability levels, helping them develop strength, balance, and flexibility to prevent injuries and improve overall physical well-being. Marcia is a graduate of Northwestern University and has been an ACE certified personal trainer since 2003, emphasizing research-based training and a focus on behavioral change. She has also studied at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, where she honed her skills in health coaching.
Dolores Ohlwein
Dolores has been assisting members of the Community House Fitness Center in reaching their fitness goals since 1991. She enjoys helping clients maintain a healthy lifestyle by using: functional training, core/balance exercises, weight training, weight bearing exercises, and stretching. She is certified through the Idea International Association of Fitness Professionals with an emphasis in exercise and aging.
Chris Treiber
Chris has been assisting members of the Community House Fitness Center in reaching their fitness goals since 1996. His specializations are training for strength, functional movement, balance, and older adult populations. Chris is certified through the American Council on Exercise, the Functional Aging Institute (Functional Aging Specialist) and the Gray Institute (Applied Functional Science).
Edwin Ventura
Edwin is a NASM certified personal trainer as well as a USA licensed Boxing Coach. He grew up in Waukegan playing soccer for 15 years before switching to boxing for the last 6 years. He enjoys training a wide range of clients for performance, general health, and weight loss. Edwin also holds a Performance Enhancement Specialty Certification through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, which enables him to train athletes to reach their full conditioning potential.

Puppy Obedience & Socialization
Proper socialization is crucial in developing a healthy, confident dog and strengthening the dog/human bond. This class provides a positive and fun environment for pups and their owners. Common puppy behaviors such as nipping, house soiling, jumping, and barking will be discussed. Obedience cues including sit, down, come, stay, and leash willbe covered. Puppies ages 2-4 months are welcome. Puppies must have had at least one full round of vaccinations at least 7 days prior to the start of class.

Canine Good Citizen Test NEW!
This course will help prepare you and your dog for the CGC test, a ten-item test developed by the AKC during which your dog is evaluated on basic obedience and social skills. To be tested, the dog must not be reactive/aggressive toward any dogs or people. While there is no age limit, it is recommended the dog be at least 9 months of age, must be up to date on vaccinations, and have knowledge of basic obedience skills. The test will be administered on the last day of class, and all ten items must be demonstrated to pass the test.

Dog Obedience Puppy
Puppy Class provides a positive environment for socialization of puppies and people alike! Early socialization has been shown to greatly reduce the incidence of both human-directed aggression and dog-ondog aggression, as well as anxiety and fear-based behavior problems. Additional topics covered are house training, mouthing, barking, and preventing behavior problems. Obedience behaviors of sit, coming when called, and walking on a leash will be introduced. This class is appropriate for puppies ages 2-4 months old. All dogs must have at least 2 rounds of vaccinations prior to class.

CANCELLATION OF CLASSES Register early! Prior to the start of any class, registration is reviewed to determine if the enrollment is sufficient to hold the class. Do not wait until the day of the first class to register or you may find the class has been canceled due to low enrollment.

EMERGENCY CLOSINGS
The Community House intends to keep its facilities and programs operating whenever possible. There are times, however, when weather, road conditions, or facility malfunctions dictate that programs and/or services must be canceled or temporarily postponed or entire facilities closed. In order to provide employees and patrons with a safe and secure environment in which to work and play, the Community House reserves the right to close a particular facility or cancel a program when deemed necessary.
The Community House makes every effort to avoid scheduling programs or events on religious holidays. Anyone affected will be offered the option of attending a session of the same program on a different date as a make-up, or receiving a prorated refund of the fee for the date missed.
