BIG SKY DOG TRAINING Dog Obedience Puppy

This class is designed as a positive and reward based Puppy Head Start Program. Your puppy will learn: focus and attention, sit, down, wait and stay, walking on a loose leash, walking through a door correctly and recall (come) to name a few. Each of the 6-week lessons will also focus on your concerns, like housebreaking, chewing and barking. This class will teach you the reasoning behind a puppy’s thought process as well as the prevention of and response to unwanted behaviors.

BIG SKY DOG TRAINING Dog Obedience Basic/Adult

This class is designed to review commands and increases the difficulty of exercises by extending the time and distance for each command. At each lesson you will be able to focus on your concerns, like housebreaking, chewing, barking and pulling on the leash, to name a few. This class will teach you how to effectively train your dog while getting your dog to merge into your schedule and lifestyle. People interested in obtaining their dog’s Canine Good Citizen Certification will be able to test at the end of the class.

Bring soft treats, 6’ leash (no retractable/expandable leashes), and clean-up bags to each class. Please do not wear sandals without a back strap. On the first day of class please bring: your dog’s vaccination papers (need to see only, you can keep), completed registration form which will be e-mailed to you prior to class, and $10 materials fee paid directly to the instructor (covers equipment and documents provided throughout the six week program). All recommended training methods will use positive reinforcement techniques. Dog Training hand signals, voice command and a marker word will be used throughout the class along with the five basic rewards; touch, voice, loose leash, play, and treats. These programs are not appropriate for dogs which are reactive to people or other dogs.

Dog Obedience Puppy

Puppy Class provides a positive environment for socialization of puppies and people alike! Early socialization has been shown to greatly reduce the incidence of both human-directed aggression and dog-on-dog aggression, as well as anxiety and fear-based behavior problems. Additional topics covered are house training, mouthing, barking, and preventing behavior problems. Obedience behaviors of sit, coming when called, and walking on a leash will be introduced. This class is appropriate for puppies ages 2-4 months old. All dogs must have at least 2 rounds of vaccinations prior to class.

Creative Paws classes allow one participant age 14 and up per dog in class. No retractable leashes allowed. Please bring food to be used as training rewards to each class.

Dog Obedience 101

Obedience 101 teaches the basics of obedience: sit, down, stand, recall (coming when called), stay, and heel — everything your companion dog needs to know! Both verbal commands and hand signals will be used. Dogs of any age may take this class. Positive reinforcement techniques will be used, so please bring food rewards or a small toy with you to class.

Dog Obedience 102

Obedience 102 is focused on honing the skills of Obedience 101. Additional levels of difficulty and distractions will be added. Dogs of any age may enroll provided they have a basic knowledge of basic obedience commands: sit, down, recall (coming when called), stay, and heel.

Canine Good Citizen Prep & Test

The Canine Good Citizen title is offered by the AKC, and can be attained by any dog regardless of breed or mix. All dogs must have basic obedience skills prior to taking this class. The test is on the last night of class. All items must be passed to earn the title.

THE TEST ITEMS ARE:

• Accepting a friendly stranger

• Sitting politely for petting

• Appearance and grooming: A friendly stranger examines the ears, front feet and run a brush down the dog’s back

• Walking on a loose lead

• Walking through a crowd

• Sit and down on command and staying in place

• Coming when called

• Reaction to another dog: walking politely with another handler and dog team, exchanging pleasantries and shaking hands with the handler. The dogs ignore each other.

• Reaction to distraction: both a noise and a movement based distraction.

• Supervised separation

The Garden Room accommodates 250 people theater style or 200 with tables and chairs. This space can also be divided into two separate rooms. Special features include natural light from south-facing windows, fine woodwork, variable lighting configurations and a dance floor with a view of the garden.

La Petite École de Chicago

La Petite École de Chicago is a private, French language immersion school founded in 2015, with its first campus in Hyde Park and a second campus at the Community House. The school serves families with children age 3 and above and offers a yearround, in-person, preschool to 6th grade curriculum based on the French national curriculum. The school also offers an online option for families with one or more individuals who cannot send children to school due to pre-existing conditions. Classes never exceed 10 students per teacher.
