Dear Friends –

Joy and gratitude – these are the first words that come to mind as I reflect on last fiscal year.
It was a great joy to serve more young people than ever before – especially those under age 5, who came week after week for programs filled with music, play, and ABCs. For older children, sports and performing arts programs hit an all-time high, and right down the hall, others explored robot-building, sewing, and chess. Adults were here, too, working out, training their dogs, or showing off their on-stage talent in the annual Village Follies variety show.
We also saw the return of the iconic Antiques+Modernism Show for its triumphant 50th year – after a 3-year hiatus due to the pandemic. And we found joy in simply being together, enjoying live music and food trucks in the garden on the first Thursday of the month throughout the summer. These gatherings were among my favorites of the year, drawing friends and neighbors of all ages and life stages for fun and camaraderie in one of our most beautiful spaces.
Finally, I’m grateful to all of you! Thanks to you, the Community House had one of its strongest years in recent history, allowing us to rebuild our operating reserves after the pandemic – and ensuring we can continue to inspire lifelong learning, personal growth, and community spirit for years to come.
Thank you for supporting this unique organization that provides foundational experiences and fosters meaningful connections for so many. Your engagement makes the Community House the incredibly special place it is, and I hope you share the joy and gratitude I find here every day.

WE ARE THE COMMUNITY HOUSE.
The Community House is a unique non-profit that has played a special role for over a century – we serve as a gathering place for all and inspire lifelong learning, personal growth, and community spirit through enjoyable, engaging activities and meaningful shared experiences.
Home to a variety of youth and adult programs, theater and dance performances, weddings, community events, and much more, the Community House offers a theater, full-service fitness center, gymnasium, and multi-purpose spaces surrounded by beautiful gardens and grounds. As an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit, the Community House receives no tax dollars and relies on charitable contributions, memberships, and program fees to sustain our organization.
House Highlights
Over 1,800 children collectively spent more than 43,000 hours at the Community House last year, learning teamwork and expanding their skills through our popular youth basketball house league and youth sports programs, finding their confidence and star power through Skyline Children’s Theater productions and our School of Dance, experiencing the joy of music and quality time with parents through our tot music programs, and SO MUCH MORE!
Fascinating new adult programs brought neighbors together, including cooking lessons, wine tasting classes, floral arranging workshops, and a very special presentation about remembering Christmas at Marshall Field’s.
Over 120 children’s birthday parties were celebrated with over 2,000 children in attendance.
The Children’s Theatre of Winnetka once again dazzled audiences and was voted Best Children’s Theater in the suburbs by Better magazine for the 6th year in a row!

The Woman’s Board and Junior Board engaged over 130 volunteers and raised over $183,000 through incredible events that brought the community together while supporting the Community House.
Families came together to laugh and bond at a variety of events, exploring the wonder of magic, the joy of live music, and the classic fun of Family Bingo Night.
Over 150 units of life-saving blood were donated through blood drives facilitated by the American Red Cross.
Fitness Center members came in for over 62,000 workouts, maintaining their strength and mobility and staying healthy in stressful times.
We hosted 70 celebrations of milestones and life events, including 43 weddings for couples who made treasured memories in our beautiful garden as they embarked on a new life together.
Over 100 groups, ranging from nonprofit organizations to local businesses, chose the Community House as their home for meetings, seminars, and special gatherings.

Unlike a tax-supported park district or library, the independent, non-profit Community House is unique – literally supported by the members of the very community it serves. Every activity, performance, and gathering that takes place in the House – from the Fitness Center to Matz Hall to the gymnasium, from our beautiful multi-purpose rooms to our historic garden – is made possible by donations from community members who sustain this vital organization’s mission.
