Ac•Rock sings a cappella rock ‘n roll. The Ac•Rock show discusses the origins of a cappella singing, considers how humans first learned to sing, introduces musical vocabulary and concepts and gets the entire audience involved, singing and clapping along - all while enjoying a musical overview of rock classics. Kids and parents alike will love Ac•Rock’s show, which will include songs like “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” and “I’m A Believer.”

Whether you want to buy, sell or have your bike appraised, you will get your chance at our annual bike sale. A Wilmette Bicycle Shop representative will be available beginning at 8:30 a.m. to evaluate the condition of your bicycles and suggest repairs. A 25% service charge, based on sale price, will be donated to the Community House. The Bike Sale will be held rain or shine on the Community House Front Lawn.

Here is the chance for your 7-12 year old to sell outgrown clothes and toys for fun and profit. The event will be held outdoors, weather permitting, and is open to the public for shopping. There must be one adult per table. Registration must be received by April 17.

Daily activities may include adventure walks down the snowy Green Bay Trail, arts and crafts, simple cooking projects and fun games. Please dress appropriately for the weather since some fo the activities will take place outside.

This unique outdoor-based camp offers a combination of creative activities and educational experiences for children ages 33 months through six years of age. Children are encouraged to explore their outdoor world through developmentally appropriate activities. The outdoor approach helps to increase each child’s awareness, enjoyment and respect for nature. Daily activities may include adventure walks down the Green Bay Trail, water play at Maple Beach and arts and crafts. Each week culminates with a special event. Each participant will attend a weekly ceramics lesson in our state of the art ceramics studio. Campers will also be introduced to the martial art of Karate. All counselors are college age or older. Children must be toilet trained by the first day of camp. Chess Wizards

Would you like to go on a journey to learn cool openings, mid-games with all the pins, double attacks, endgames and even bughouse? Would you like to be a part of a successful chess team, designed to cater to all levels of chess players? If so, join Chess Wizards for this camp! Campers will learn how to play chess in a fun atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor activities. This camp is for beginning and intermediate level players. No previous experience is needed. Children should bring their own lunch and a drink, but snacks will be provided. TECHNOLOGY EXPERIENCE CAMP (TEC) Chang Liu

The TEC provides opportunities for children to learn technology through hands-on, natural, fun experience. The camp provides class modules in programming language (from beginning to advanced), electronics building and playing, and computer programming for wearable and robotic hardware. Pace is adjusted for individuals.

TEC - PROGRAMMING ACADEMY FOR GIRLS

The Programming Camp for Girls is a one week long camp for girls to learn and experience computer programming. The camp consists of five sessions, each 2 hours long. The camp will provide an excellent introduction in software programming, simple electronics building, and hardware programming. No prior experience is required. Every student will advance and learn on own pace. At the end of the class, students will be able to program in Javascript and html. Each will program a wearable electronics blinker to take home. Computer language covered in the class include Javascript, Html, and C. Further, students will learn to program micro controllers for wearable electronics and robotics. The camp provides computer and all related hardware.

The Programming Academy is a technology playground for children to learn and experience computer programming. The camp consists of eight Sunday-afternoon sessions, each 2 hours long. The camp will provide an excellent introduction in software programming, simple electronics building, and hardware (micro-controller) programming. No prior experience is required. At the end of the class, students will be able to program switching and loops in Javascript and html. Each will program a wearable electronics blinker to take home. Advanced students will be exposed to efficient algorithms, php server language, or Android-platform code-writing for mobile devices. Students will learn basic electronics building skills such as resistive networks, switches, amplifiers, sensors, and motors. Further, students will learn to program micro controllers for wearable electronics and robotics.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

TEC camp is taught by Dr. Chang Liu, an engineering professor at Northwestern University and a Winnetka resident. Dr. Liu has 15 years of experience teaching engineering and technology. He holds advanced degrees and comprehensive perspectives about science, technology and business, rooted in many years of teaching multidisciplinary subjects to college students.

Don’t make exercise a chore—Spice it up! Group fitness offers a variety of formats to keep you motivated and feeling healthy! Our group fitness programs offer a wide variety of structured fitness activities to meet your personal goals. Our instructors are prepared to inspire and motivate you to change or continue healthy fitness-related behaviors. Class selection and times differ throughout the year. Check the group fitness schedule for availability, changes and current sessions.

All Group X plans are open to both members and non-members ages 14 years and older. Plans are available in punch card denominations of 10, 20, 30, or unlimited year. Walk-ins are always welcome. Plans expire one year from the date of purchase. Plans may not be transferred or shared. Refunds are not available. Purchase your plan at the Winnetka Community House Fitness Centre.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Member registration opens November 17, 2014 and will be processed on a first come, first served basis.

Membership does not guarantee placement in a class. All non-members will be able to register November 24, 2014. Registration received through the mail, fax, or in person will be processed by 5:00 p.m. the next business day. The best way to ensure that your registration is processed immediately is by using our online registration at winnetkacommunityhouse.org

Membership Information

Early registration: Members are eligible to register for all classes one week prior to the start of seasonal registration. Early registration can be done via the web at winnetkacommunityhouse.org, fax or in person at Winnetka Community House. Please note: early registration does not guarantee a spot in a class. All family members in your household are eligible for membership benefits. When registering for membership, just list your family members, and they will be included for the program registration benefits automatically when registering for classes.

Members receive a notice about one month prior to the expiration, so the membership can be renewed for the next year. Refunds for memberships will not be available.

How To Register

• To register for a membership simply list all eligible members on the registration form. Then check the box and add the membership fee in with your registration.

• Please print clearly.

• Read and fill out form completely. By listing your email address, you agree to receive email communications from Winnetka Community House. We will never sell your address, but love to keep in touch with our users to give news about programs, events, and special offers from Winnetka Community House. If you do not wish to receive these emails, please unsubscribe.

• Sign the registration form.

• Unsigned forms will not be processed, but will be returned to you. This will delay processing your registration. Registration forms may be mailed or faxed. Registration by telephone is not accepted.

Credit Cards

You may use your credit card for all programs which appear with a class number or for a Fitness Centre membership. Fitness Centre memberships are obtained at the Fitness Centre only. Be sure to fill out the credit card information completely and sign the form. We do not take telephone registration. However, if you are paying by credit card, you may fax your registration to (847) 446-0609.

Cancellation of Classes

Prior to any class, registration is reviewed to determine if the enrollment is sufficient to hold the class. Register early! Do not wait until the day of the first class to register. You may find the class has been cancelled due to low enrollment.

Refund Policy

Full refunds will be issued for courses that are cancelled by Winnetka Community House due to insufficient registration. A refund, less a 10% service charge (not to exceed $25), may be granted if the refund request is received five full working days prior to the start of the program. No refunds will be allowed after this time unless a medical condition develops and a written explanation from a physician on his/her letterhead is presented. Due to advanced reservation requirements, no refunds for trips, outings or special events will be given.

Prorated Policy

Classes may be prorated if you would like to enroll in a class after it has started, provided the instructor has space and allows for late registration. The supervisor must approve the prorated amount.

Inclement Weather

Winnetka Community House will not hold classes on days when the Winnetka Public Schools have cancelled classes due to inclement weather.

Religious Holidays

Winnetka Community House makes every effort to avoid scheduling programs or events on religious holidays. Anyone affected will be offered the option of attending a session of the same program on a different date as a make-up, or receiving a prorated refund of the series fee for the date missed.

• Winnetka Community House is not responsible for the supervision of children on site prior to or remaining on site after the established program times.

Winnetka Community House is handicapped accessible.

• If you or any member of your family has special needs, please see our Executive Director.

• Winnetka Community House receives no tax dollars. We are supported by our programs, fund raising events, our annual campaign, and donations.

• Winnetka Community House assumes no responsibility and carries no accident or medical insurance for injuries or accidents at programs or activities on Community House property. It is advisable to review your own personal health insurance plan to be certain that you and your family have proper and sufficient insurance coverage.

Brochure Errors

Complete details of program policies, procedures, and guidelines are sometimes inadvertently omitted. Errors in days, times, registration requirements and fees may occur in the brochure. When such errors occur the staff will advise you of the change as quickly as possible. We thank you for your understanding.

Winnetka Community House has established the Stephen Dustman Memorial Scholarship Fund to any resident who would like to take part in a Winnetka Community House activity, but is unable to render full payment. Winnetka Community House has been playing host to some of the most beautiful events on the North Shore for more than a century. Within our historic grounds, the beautiful Arches Garden provides a timeless setting for a romantic wedding.
