Despite the stereotypes, Gen Z isn’t just reaching for hard seltzers and tequila shots … they’re reshaping wine culture through curiosity, intention, and a hunger for authentic connection.
But do they even know where to start? In short: yes. You might not be shocked to hear this, it doesn’t actually have all that much to do with the wine itself.
“Gen Z isn’t drinking.”
“They’re too young to be valuable customers.”
“They don’t have the disposable income.”
These are assumptions that get thrown around often. While they might hold a little truth, they definitely don’t eliminate the generation from becoming potential customers, or even future leaders in the industry. They’re just approaching things differently. And the Belmonte girls? They might have just cracked the code.
Gabriella “Brie” and Natalia Belmonte are next in line to carry on their family’s legacy. With VJB Cellars, Kenwood Ranch, and Wellington Cellars under their belt, the Belmonte family operates three buzzing businesses that continue to grow and evolve. Now, Brie and Natalia are becoming the fresh faces of it all and they’re bringing something new to the table.
Chardonnay by Brie
Starting with the Gabriella Ranch Chardonnay : Bright, clean, and stainless-steel fermented, it’s full of energy and intention. Brie made sure it included a personal touch, crafting a wine that leans into the liveliness of the varietal and speaks directly to the younger palate. It’s fresh, unfussy, and something her generation would actually want to drink.
“I didn’t want to make a Chardonnay that felt heavy or dated,” Brie says. “I wanted something that felt like me and my friends - clean, energetic, not too serious. The kind of bottle you bring to celebrate your friends at a fancy brunch or open on a random Tuesday night in your pjs.”
Meanwhile, Natalia’s Blend is all about warmth, ease, and family roots. It’s one of those reds that feels instantly familiar, the kind of bottle you fall in love with and keep coming back to. Rich in history and effortlessly drinkable, it has that “first and forever favorite” energy. A top-secret blend with a soft touch, it’s the kind of bottle that shows up at girls’ nights, date nights, and maybe even your first real dinner party!
“For me, it’s always about creating something that brings people together,” Natalia shares. “My blend feels like home. If it’s not authentic, we’re not buying it, literally or emotionally. So I wanted the wine to feel approachable, but also like it had a story behind it. Something that invites you in, not intimidates you.”
She adds, “It’s about giving California a little piece of Italy, bringing them into our family and culture.”
It’s not just about what happens at the family’s wineries, it’s about how the wine continues to show up afterward. These bottles become part of the stories people tell. They’re opened during birthdays, celebrations, casual hangs, and quiet nights in. They’re woven into moments and memories that matter.
Yes, the wines are high quality. But more than that, Brie and Natalia created something that resonates. They understood the lens Gen Z is viewing the industry through - one that values connection, sustainability, emotional authenticity, and intentional indulgence.
They don’t just make great wine. They made something Gen Z can see themselves in. Reliable, easy-drinking, conversation-starting, and storyworthy. And, when you’re first getting into wine, that’s exactly what you’re looking for, even if you don’t know how to ask for it yet.
That same philosophy is woven into everything we do at VJB & Wellington Cellars. Because, while wine is at the heart of it all, it’s never just about the wine. It’s about the full experience: sharing pizza on the piazza, grabbing a sandwich after a tasting, ordering a scoop of gelato between pours, or picking out chocolates and cheeses to bring a little piece of wine country home.
So where does that leave the rest of us?
The truth is, past vintages were crafted with you in mind. Now, it’s time to embrace the Gen Z

perspective not as a novelty, but as a strength. The “kids” aren’t kids anymore. They’re showing up, and they want to be part of the conversation! There’s something here for everyone, because we believe wine should be approachable, inclusive, worth coming back for, and most importantly part of a life well lived.
Gen Z, consider this your formal invitation to the world of wine! We can’t wait to see what you bring to the table.

As the leaves start to turn from green to hues of gold, red, amber, and brown, you can feel the anticipation build. Come celebrate the elation of harvest at Alexander Valley Vineyards, enjoy “the season of gathering.”
Fall is in the Air
Fall may not begin officially until the third week of September, but at Alexander Valley Vineyards and this area of Sonoma County, you can tell fall is here. There’s a new, yet familiar, kind of energy in the air. Crews are in the vineyards, dropping fruit, so when it’s time, only the best grapes will remain on the vines, ready to pick, crush, and begin the journey from vine to bottle to the wine lover. So far, 2025 looks to be a spectacular year … and the winery is gearing up.

A visit to the Priest Ranch Tasting Room in Yountville is an experience not to be missed, especially if you love wine, flavors, and first-rate hospitality.
The tasting room itself is not only warm, inviting, and pleasant; it is a quintessential example of understated elegance and intimacy. Once you sit down and are welcomed, you are in for a treat … especially if you indulge (and it is an indulgence) in one of their specialized paired tastings: “A Taste of Terroir.”
This is a uniquely focused tasting where Priest Ranch puts together four single varietals: Sauvignon Blanc, Malbec, Petite Sirah, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Several things make this tasting stand out from most paired tastings you may be used to:
• It is focused on specific vineyard blocks
• Priest Ranch is one of the few wineries that grows and produces a stand-alone single Malbec
• The tasting highlights the uniqueness of the property and specific vineyard blocks
• Each pairing is done with an exclusive taste of gourmet chocolate, to bring out the nuances of each varietal, and the “dirt” that it grows in. So, drink in the artful display of these four varietals, paired with chocolates (handcrafted from local artisan chocolatier Christopher Kollar) Experience, savor, and enjoy some Napa ‘dirt.’
Although the pairings may change, the concept is the same. The day that we “ate dirt,” our pairings were as follows:
• 2024 Block 71 Sauvignon Blanc, to bring out the characteristics of the loam-type soil, and the lemon characteristics, which pair with a sensuous white chocolate.
• 2019 Block 81 Malbec, a mouthwatering raspberry milk chocolate that emphasizes the features of the sweetness of the chocolate when tasted with the wine from the silty soil.
• 2021 Block 126 Petite Sirah, a dark chocolate, which features the decadent flavors of cherry, when paired with a grape from the ash-dominant dirt.
• 2019 Block 136 Cabernet Sauvignon, bringing out the individuality of flavors from the grapes grown in clay-rich soil, and displaying a prominent flavor of cocoa with a dark chocolate ganache, totally indulgent!
As you taste through the assortment of chocolates and wine, you will experience how different flavors of the ‘chocolate treat’ emphasize the specific characteristics of the soil, or terroir. Truly a unique and creative pairing.
Visiting the Priest Ranch tasting room is a complete experience in learning and enjoying wine within a hospitable, non-intimidating setting that will appeal to both the novice and the more serious wine lover. In addition to the “Taste of Terroir,” you may want to consider the “Mood-Enhancing Tasting” or the “Bacon and Wine Experience.” Each brings something special to the table, and to your palate, enjoyment of wine, flavors, and atmosphere.
Then there is the hospitality, which is unparalleled! Our host was Francisco, with a smile as wide as a vineyard, and a personality that blended well with our group. Francisco is knowledgeable, fun, and a perfect pair to walk you through your taste. He possesses a wealth of knowledge, and his descriptors will only enhance your overall experience.
But the Priest Ranch tasting is more than just about wine; it’s about community as well. Because May was Mental Health Month, Priest Ranch was continuing a percentage of sales be donated to various local mental health charities through June, when we happened to be there. This is a winery that produces exceptional wines, offers memorable wine tasting experiences, and makes a commitment to people and community.
Lastly, on your visit to the tasting room, allow time for lunch at the Priest Ranch Kitchen, right next door. Their smashburgers are award winning. And, accompanied by their french fries, will simply be an amazing preamble to your tasting, or be a most satisfying explanation mark of salivary delight following your tasting.

On August 7th, Priest Ranch took their wines “on the road” to Southern California, presenting them as part of a wine-paired lunch at the highly acclaimed A.O.C. West Hollywood Restaurant. Winemaker Cody Hurd, CEO Judd Wallenbrock, and Director of Business Development Joel Quigley represented Priest Ranch. Attending were members of the LA Wine Writers, a group of contributors to various media sources focusing on food and wine. One of the members, Andy Harris, is executive producer and co-host of the “SoCal Restaurant Show” (heard weekly on AM 830 KLAA radio, Saturdays, 10am-noon). Guests arrived, being greeted with a splash of 2024 Priest Ranch Rosé. The creative salad course was accompanied by the Estate Sauvignon Blanc and Estate Grenache Blanc. The flavorful hanger steak main course was perfectly paired with Estate Cabernet Sauvignon and elegant Snake Oil Cabernet. Of course, a sweet treat of bittersweet chocolate torta caramel, with vanilla whip and espresso, completed the meal, with Priest Ranch 2021 Proprietary Red Blend.
And, the pièce de résistance ended with a sampling of “Eat Dirt,” (refer to article above). Oh, what a sweet and tasty lunch it was.
(Note: In December 2024, A.O.C. was inducted into the prestigious Los Angeles Times Restaurant Hall of Fame).
Priest Ranch is a must-visit Napa Valley experience. Every sip is a story, a connection of love and a connection to the soul of this remarkable place.

Although these vineyards in the quiet, scenic Guenoc Valley – just over the hill from Howell Mountain in Napa’s St. Helena – had a starpowered beginning, the family behind Langtry Farms wants visitors to know they are just that; a family that grows sustainably and produces the highest quality wines while nurturing the lands where they are grown.
With a label still bearing her profile, early 20th century socialite, actress and adventurer Lillie Langtry – who bought her “paradise” in Lake County sight unseen in 1888 – laid the foundation for a wine legacy by producing what she called “the finest claret in the world.” This was a novel concept long before wine drinkers even considered that new world Cabernets were competitive with their European counterparts.
Langtry, born in the Jersey Isles in England, was a petite woman who became famous internationally and was considered by many as “the most beautiful woman in the world,” had taken a chance on winegrowing in California and her estate continues to produce heavily-awarded wines over a hundred years later. The family may be new but the elegance and refinement that Lillie brought to the land is preserved today and will be enhanced for future generations by regenerative farming techniques and dedication to winemaking.
The first celebrity wine does not rest on a famous name. Langtry Farms strives for excellence in producing Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Petite Sirah, Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon from their own estate as well as Napa Valley. Visit here to experience the stunning panoramic views, try the current releases and picnic on the grounds easily reached by the road to Middletown.
Langtry Farms specializes in high-elevation vineyards, especially those that seem impossible to farm because of the steepness of the terrain. Rest assured, planting like this is not an error; it is a deliberate attempt to stress vines and force them to seek water, making the grapes denser in flavor and juice concentration.
Langtry is in full harvest swing now with white wines coming in first and red grapes continuing to be picked into October. It is a good time to be in wine country and see the action, smell the fermentations and enjoy wines crafted in earlier vintages. In addition, Langtry hosts many events this fall, including a harvest cooking class and wreath making for the holidays.
The Calistoga Depot Wine Train
Langtry Farms wines are also availble in the charming Calistoga Depot in historic downtown Calistoga. While enjoying a flight of Langtry Farms wines, you can listen to the fascinating history behind Langtry’s estate, along with its sustainable farming practices and exceptional terroir.
Savor mountain air, lake views, and unforgettable wines
If wine country brings to mind the bounty of California farms and the largess of the Pacific Ocean, you will not be disappointed as you dine at restaurants in Napa and Sonoma counties. It is here you will find the very best in local produce, top qulity meats, fresh seafood and of course, a seemingly endless variety of ways to imbibe – from local wine to craft beer to artisan cocktails. Whether living locally or visiting from out of town, those dining in Wine Country have an insatiable appetite for good food and drink, and expect nothing less than the greatness from this impressive list of restaurants.

Many wineries have bocce courts for their visitors’ enjoyment. Becase the game is played between two players or two teams of one, two, or four, it lends itself well to hanging out with friends at the winery as part of your total winery adventure. Be sure to check ahead. Some courts require reservations and/or fees. If you have your own balls, Veterans’ Park in Yountville or Crane Park in St. Helena have bocce courts available when leagues are not in play.
